If Dabo's competitive fire is gone and he's not willing to adapt to football in the 2020s, then keeping him around is like USC hiring Lou Holtz in the twilight of his career.
I'm not calling for his head, but this is how college football is done. "What have you done for me lately?"

How many of those programs have top 10 recruiting classes?
How many of those programs have invested what we have in their program?
How many of those programs pay their coach 8 figures a year to coach football?

even over these past three seasons where we've only won one ACC championship and played in only one NY6 game.
We barely squeak in as a Top 25 program budget overall and the worst we've finished in the rankings since 2010 was this past season's #20. Rough start and transition with a new starting QB and OC ahead of what is now the nation's 3rd longest winning streak. Nobody hits above their weight better than Dabo and that's as true today as it's been the past 15 years. Is it epic, history-making since 2021? Not quite, though we did just extend our CFB record for consecutive seasons with a post-season win to 14, and counting.
Suck it, troll.

It's not about adaptation, it's about what he sees as best for the young men that he is entrusted with.
I've been critical, no doubt. But if you doubt his competitive fire, and his wanting to win, you are mistaken. He's not willing to compromise for money.

What he has done for us lately is won 7 or 8 ACC championships that I know isn't much to brag about playing in the ACC.
He has taken his teams I think it was 6 straight playoff games losing to Bama in NCG in 2015.
He then takes us back to playoffs slaughtering OSU and handing Urban Myer his 1st ever shut out. Then he beats Bama in NCG in 2016.
He then takes us back to the playoffs where we got whipped pretty good by Bama in 1st round of the playoffs in 2017.
He then takes us back to the playoffs where we beat Notre Dame pretty bad, then we go to our 3d NCG where we again beat Bama 44–16 in an undefeated season, the first team in the playoff series to go undefeated, and some talking heads were that Clemson was the greatest FB of all time in 2018, and what a time it was to be a Clemson Tiger!!!
He then takes us back to the playoffs against OSU and again beating them in the playoff. We then went to the NCG for the 4th time in playoff history where we got beat by LSU in the NCG, and ending our 29-game winning streak in 2019.
Dabo again takes us to the playoffs for 6th time where OSU finally got a win against us after 3 tries in the playoffs in 2020
In 2021 is when our playoff streak ended, but we did have a 10–3 season that ended with a 20–13 victory over Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl in 2021
Our 2022 season gave Clemson 12 consecutive seasons with at least ten wins and joining Bobby Bowden and Nick Saban as the only coaches to accomplish the feat.
2023 season was our worse season since 2010 when we were 6-6 tegular season, and 6-7 with our bowl game. What has Dabo done for FB program lately, IMO he has taken our FB program to it best winning history since our very first collegiate FB game on October 31, 1896!!!

Tommy ran a real good program. A good man! He was a good coach, with good assistants !
Terrible game day coach, unlike his Dad!
He brought Dabo to Clemson, just like Charlie Pell brought us Danny Ford! Nuff said….

I agree with a lot of what you said. I think Tommy Bowden is a great man. Came from a great family. He did great things for Clemson but he was an awful head coach.
I do respect the thought of him recommending Dabo as the interim head coach on his way out.
I thank God he is gone and would prefer that he not come back to visit or offer advice in any capacity!
Things are fine without his presence or his jibber jabber!

He's part right and part wrong.
There's a group of people who get on social media and message boards (including Tnet) that POSE AS CLEMSON FANS and constantly try to stir up discord because they're afraid of Clemson with Dabo at the helm. They may fool some but most Clemson people have the common sense to know what they're trying to do. I believe CDS knows this too, after all he's been here for a pretty long time and has been under attack often by certain "media persons", etc. Dabo loves the position of leadership that he has to help influence and mold high school kids into mature, responsible and honorable young men. As long as he is not constrained from doing this by ridiculous changes to college football, I believe he will continue to follow his calling. But, as he has said, if the NCAA's dereliction to preserve amateur athletics turns CFB into a mini-pro league I could definitely see him finding another avenue to fulfill what he believes in his heart is God's purpose for his life.

He has nothing to offer that I'm interested in. Talk about a "coach" who acted like it wasn't his responsibility to lead the team and charge up the troops, it was TB. I just hate we gave him the big raise when he pouted. We should have shown him the door sooner and hired Dabo then.

I agree with what he said. Better than I could have said it. Does Dabo love football? Yes. Is the main reason bc he develop boys into men? It,could be. Dabo loves God and follows His plan. If/when Dabo leaves, I doubt seriously it will,be bc people are fussing at him.
Go Dabo and Go Tigers!

Amazing how people critcicize Bowden. He took a bad program and made it relative. He also set in motion the facilities upgrades. No doubt it was time for him to go but his leadership is a big part of where Clemson is today. Dabo cannot be replaced like some of you think. If Dabo leaves Clemson will not be a playoff team for many years. Dabo is bigger than Clemson whether you like it or not.

I don’t like to hear so much criticism of Tommy either. If you were around in the late 90’s, you remember the dismal state of our football program. TB came in and turned things around pretty quickly. He had vision for the program. I sat in his office as he showed me the plans for our new facilities in the early 2000’s, so he definitely got the ball rolling there. We walked outside for him to show me where it would go. He said it would propel our program forward. Of course, Dabo tweaked them and made them even better.
He won some big games for us. He went 4-5 in Bowden Bowls after we had gone nearly a decade without beating them. He destroyed Tennessee in the Peach Bowl (I guess they didn’t want to be there, and we made them wish they weren’t). Don’t forget that he went 7-2 against our rival during the Holtz and Spurrier years (Lou only beat us once iirc). And he was the coach in my favorite Clemson game of all time when we mauled them 63-17 (okay, one of my favorites).
He never had a losing season at Clemson, and he took us to 8 bowl games, winning 3. It would have been 9 straight, but chickens will do what chickens do.
Tommy’s downfall was inexplicable losses to weak teams as we all know. He might beat a top 5 FSU one week, then lose to bottom dwelling Duke or Wake Forest the next. I never understood why that happened, and more than once at that. Because of that, he could never get us over the hump. But he took us to the edge.
So some criticism is justified, but don’t forget the steps he took to get us to the level he did. His groundwork set the stage for the years to follow. And despite how he came off looking in press conferences, sometimes showing a fiery demeanor, he was really a nice and friendly guy.

2007 we went 9-3 lost to Auburn in the bowl game. 2008 Bowden lost opener to Bama then won 3 before losing to Maryland and Wake. Dabo took over and lost to Ga Tech, beat BC, lost to FSU, beat Duke, UVA, SC. Dabo got the job and lost to Nebraska in the bowl game.

Unfortunately, his teams were often highly regarded with great expectations but opened up with poor records like 2-3 before going on to win 6 or 7 in a row to end with decent, though not great, records. The last straw was the blow out loss to a poor WF team in 2008 we were expected to beat handily. Enter Dabo Swinney.

He's not wrong. We have the best man in our country to lead our program. The criticism , entitlement and expectations of some folks on this board is beyond me. It has been nice to see some more realistic tigers on this board say enough. I feel for people who are so critical and probably never played the game or coached when I see some of the posts. I read them to my 63yo wife and she's like really. Why do u read tigernet?🤣 serious! I trust the process. Who is gonna have a better impact on this program than Dabo in our lifetime? Yeh I see issues, but that's not my job. It's his. I treat cancer as my calling. Dabo has his calling. We are #### lucky to have him. Cheers!

Tommy was a good, not great coach. He was a consistent 8 - 9 game / yr winner here, which was a lot better than what we had. Could he get over the hump & win the big one? Nope, it's why he's gone. But he got facility upgrades started & brought in Dabo. 2 big reasons we're winning now obviously. So trash the guy if u want, but it's pretty misguided. And he's correct, if college football gets completely out of hand from a money standpoint, where it's # 1, Dabo will walk.

And if there’s no Dabo Swinney, we’d probably have that God awful Rob Spence a few more years. Instead of national championships & conference championships, we would probably be a middle of the pack ACC school.

Remind me again how many head coaching jobs ole Tommy has had since he mutually agreed to step down? He wasn’t head coach material when we hired him either.

Get the freak outta of here. Good grief. Whenever I sorta of start to remember the Bowden years in a not so negative light and I start to be glad what he did for us he always goes and opens his stupid mouth and reminds me why I can’t stand him at all.
Tommy, you had plenty of time here to change the trajectory of our program. YOU were a bad coach that couldn’t get the job done!

Amen! If Clemson never reaches the playoffs again (and I am convinced they will), Dabo Swinney is the greatest coach we have ever had and we are extremely fortunate to have him. He wins, and he does it the right way. If Dabo goes somewhere else, even to the Cookies, I will cheer for him because he is what college football needs right now. He brings integrity to a game that seeks to prostitute itself into being NFL-lite.

I want to win national championships like any Clemson fan wants to, but the portal changes everything. For example, FSU was stinking it up because Clemson could out-recruit them before the portal, but now, FSU can out-portal Clemson and now they are favored to win the ACC. Dabo wants to continue the path to a National Championship by recruiting and bringing these young men along. Agree with it or disagree with it, this will create ‘down seasons’ while other programs are getting ‘one year wonders’ every season.

times are different now. its nothing against Dabo and his philosophy because its worked… in the past. will it work now? i’m skeptical! Saban saw the writing on the wall and got out! teams like ohio state, georgia, oregon, michigan and others are flush with money. clemson can’t compete with that. i think clemson had their run but i don’t see a natty team there now

We absolutely can compete with their money.

A lot of you seem to have a poverty mentality and like thinking of Clemson as a poor school that is blue collar and the antithesis to flashy schools with tons of money.
The reality is that we have spent more on facilities and coaches over the last decade than any of them, yet some of you think that we are a poor school that can’t pony up the money.
Our issue with NIL is that we have a head coach who has a problem with it, to the point that he has publicly criticized it and refuses to use it to its full extent to make our program better.

All it would take is a major media outlet to report Dabo is looking for a new program to coach and we would see how valuable he is. Every program would come out of the woodwork like roaches when the lights go out. Nuf sed

Did not like Tommy Bowden has a head coach but wish he could be an anchor on the ACC network would be a #### of a lot better than what they have. At least Tommy has some charisma. the ones they have on there now are like watching paint dry dull as ####.

E Mac, EJ, Taylor Tannabaum, and Kelsie Riggs are solid but yeah... the rest of them are boring. Mark Richt is painful to watch. Honestly though, I think the biggest issue with ACCN is ESPN just neglects it. It's like when a company buys another company just to dissolve it so their main flagship has less competition. It's also part of why the ESPN narrative right now is devaluing FSU and Clemson, and Finebaum says things like "noone is interested", it's so when we leave they want to lower the negotiation line down from where it should be. ESPN just treats the ACC like trash. That's a major reason I hope we go to the Big10, as much as I'd love the rivalries in the south, I just despise ESPN that much.

Anytime I see the name "Tommy Bowden" I cringe. He maybe correct but I'll never know because I won't waste my time reading his opinion. I listened to his BS for years as Clemson coach. FAR too long.
