Seems like all the good Big 10 baseball players are just trying to have a good season so they can transfer to an ACC/SEC school the following year. This looks like a great pickup.

As someone from that area said to me... It's kind of hard to practice in February in Michigan/Wisconsin/Minnesota.

The Big 10 isn't really a "power" conference in baseball. It's viewed by most to be more on par with like the AAC or CUSA, not Big12, ACC, or SEC. Another reason why I hate the rumors of Clemson going to the Big 10.
Teams will continue poaching talented Big 10 players, especially when they have to play the first 6 weeks of their season on the road or at neutral site tournaments... just transfer somewhere warm and get the heck out of there.

Pitching has become one of the hardest positions in college baseball to recruit, for us anyway bc those guys are getting most of the NIL $$$$ and they have already made their bank deposit...

I think Pitchers are in short supply and outscoring the bad guys is the way to win. Mediocre pitching is going to be the norm.

Great pickup. I am guessing we should be about done with position players. Now we need some pitching. Thing is most of the better pitchers are pitching in summer leagues so their recruiting takes some time. A little patience & I think we will land some pitching. So far haven’t had a problem landing some good position players so I am confident we get some pitching as well.

thats really all we lack. We have 2, 1 starter 1 closer but need at least 2 more guys that can help get us over the hump

I keep hearing this drumbeat. Yes, a couple pitchers are always nice. But we have talent. Literally.
As far as I know, Casey Tallent is coming back. Samol and Casey were out for the year. No doubt in my mind, had those 2 been healthy, we'd have been in Omaha.
Our freshman were pretty darn good. McGovern ring a bell? How about luegurnic... butchered his name, but these guys improve, along with Darden/titsworth. If either or both bell and or Wilkie stick, they'll battle knaak for Friday night. Both already
chunk mid 90s. So our pitching is there.
Lastly, our era actually wasn't bad. It's the walks, hbp, and errors creating unearned runs that cost us.

Considering this precious season, if they weren't watching, they're not Tigers.
We do need to see the pitchers produce, errors go down, and runs in the pinch. But, all things considered, thrilled that we did what we did this year.

so yes I'm not the expert. My opinion is based off what I saw this year. I thought when Knack pitched we were in good hands, when Gordon came in we were in good hands. But when anyone else was in there it was a toss up. After seeing this on multiple occasions I knew Omaha was going to be a stretch bc you gotta have no doubters to make those tough runs.
When you get to Omaha everybody can hit..but the teams that have a chance are the teams with the special pitchers. Not saying its easy to get those guys but it is what it is from year to year. When i watched this team coming down the stretch this year that's the thing i noticed the most as being our Achilles. Not being able to lock down games. HAd alot of firepower and streaky bats but having to bail out your pitching all the time is not sustainable for Omaha.
Sounds like we have alot of young guys who can grow into that role though. I look forward to watching that come to fruition. All in all.. we are one the right track and i'm thrilled with our progress since Bakich took over.

I'm assuming the starter you're referring to is Knaak, but who's the closer? It was my understanding that Gordon will likely be leaving for the MLB.
