Surprised it was not more. I thought the league might make an example of him considering all the liability issues they are having with player health.

Officially, "no". But my huevos say "oh hells yeah, it's on"...as it should be.
The Enforcer role in sports has been practically eliminated seemingly only for optics-purposes, but the downside of that is you have clowns like this that can potentially end a young-man's life, let alone a career, by operating un-checked.
Burfict is a pretty good example that some players simply do not care about fines or suspensions. His career ended because that behavior caught up to him, but had he been put in place earlier maybe Antonio Brown would still be lucid.

After several fines this year and that malicious hit, he should have suspended for the rest of the season. Not just a cheap shot, but rather a potentially lethal dirty hit. His arm was wrapped and protected just to deliver that type of head shot.
His coach was a classy player, and he should cut him on top of the league suspension……
Get well Trevor, and Go Tigers!

That may be the most well-worded statement I have ever seen come from the NFL.

Agreed. Runyan didn't hold back.
I will say the wording and the outcome don't match. Ruyan kinda said he was a menace and a danger to others but then gave him a light punishment.
I wish the NFL would institute a punishment for flagrant penalties like there where the offender is suspended for as long as the injured player is out of the game. I'd be willing to bet behavior changes pretty quickly

They should've repeated what they did to Myles Garrett - indefinite suspension subject to a meeting with the commish if he wants to play again. Unless I've missed something, Myles hasn't repeated those antics since.

Why wouldn't Jacksonville sue the Texans as their guy basically tried to end the franchise player?

Not his first issue... so a lifetime ban with a massive fine is in order. I am not a lawyer, so I don't know what the legalities are. But when it is that intentional, I personally think that there should be some kind of an assault charge from the local authorities.

I agree. Unfortunately...the lawyers...are a BIG part of the problem.
NFL is walking a fine line. Technically, this player has been fined before for this type of behavior (repeatedly, and very hostile-seeming), but in terms of suspension he is a "first-time offender".
They matched the Burfict length. I'm guessing this was directly intentional so they can point to precedent.
Given Al-Shaaair has been somewhat outspoken some politically sensitive topics*, easy to assume some unsavory Houston lawyer (Tony Buttzbee?) could claim the suspension length was maliciously motivated due to those sentiments.
*Note-By no means am I making any critique of someone exercising their American rights of freedom of speech or freedom of religion, but I do abhor lawyers who may exploit their client's beliefs to insinuate prejudice.
Clearly NFL counsel considered all of this.
Bottom line-this was a predatorial hit.

The Texans head coach should be suspended too

Afterwards he tried to downplay the hit and said the Jags overreacted to it. He even tried to put part of the blame on QBs saying if they didn't try to slide at the last minute these things wouldn't happen. If the guy at the top of the organization doesn't take it seriously neither will the guys he leads.

I had respect for the Texans Coach until he said he thought the Jacksonville players overreacted to the hit - now, I think the Coach and player are just thugs. He’s lucky Jax didn’t try to take out his QB in retaliation…

Taking out the coach would be much better because the TX quarterback was not involved...

And now you know why this POS player has continued to try to hurt other players time and time again. His coach is telling him to go for it. His comments should result in a suspension as well. This wasn't some bang bang play where the QB was somehow sliding in any way whatsoever with whats consistently been the expectation when a QBs giving themselves up to end a play and this clown came in with a forearm shiver in an obvious attempt to knock Trevor the #### out.

The Texan LB should be suspended for a year minimum and fined him $250,000 minimum. He had a history of malicious hits. If Trevor was in a comma, would it be more substantial fine? Three game suspension was nothing compared to what long term damage to Trevor might exist.

Interesting... With his history of violence and disregard toward other players, I wonder if he believes he is serving Allah by hurting other players, particularly Christians like Trevor Lawrence. He seems intentionally violent and unapologetic.

Yes, we need steeper penalties and IF teams would punish their OWN players for this it would help! Bench him and take his pay for the rest of the year and folks will listen! This is potentially a serious head injury so hopefully he is not experiencing too much swelling as the "fencing" gesture typically forecasts.

Trevor needs to collect on his guaranteed contract, go home and enjoy his wife and kid. Those guys are trying to kill him and he shouldn't give them what they want. He's set for life. Hang the cleats up. He's got nothing left to prove.

And I'll add, how cool would it be Trevor retired from professional ball and came back to Clemson as the OC?
