Swinney is keeping track of those doubting DJ Uiagalelei
Dabo Swinney is taking down names of those doubting that Clemson's starting quarterback will live up to the hype. Through two games, DJ Uiagalelei has faced a top-level defense in Georgia and an FCS-level foe in SC State to rank 104th nationally in passing efficiency (101) and 102nd in completion pe Read Update » |

I personally wouldn’t mind seeing Taisun get some more playing time. He’s been our best looking QB in 2021 (spring game and this season).
The coaches are the ones who see them in practice and meetings every day, so their opinions are way more informed than mine.

his issue was after taking that spear against auburn he was more worried about protecting himself for baseball after..the roll out then run out of bounds instead of muscling for the extra yard or two was annoying as hell.

Farley cracked Parker's rib, revealed after Rockies X-ray.

Clemson & Parker didn't reveal that his rib was cracked but the Rockies revealed it after Parker had his medical exam and x-ray with the team doctors. Cracked ribs hurt like crazy. In hindsight, it's understandable that Parker was quick to scamper out of bounds, avoiding hits.

I can agree to an extent. I felt like KP11 was definitely a gamer before the Auburn spear ; KB2 in a different era would probably have been serviceable - maybe not pro but a decent college QB.
When DW4 & TL16 were at the helm, I didn't really feel nervous, even when they were underclassmen.
DJ5 has me a little apprehensive after the first two games and TP7 actually has more command of the offense IMO at this point in time.
Of course, I wanna see DJ5 do better and maybe we'll start to see him grab hold and own the QB spot to make us not even consider it open moving forward.
At this point though, I can't say confidently that he's head and shoulders better than TP7. Maybe that's not a bad thing because TP7 is definitely looking the best he's been and maybe more like what the coaches have seen at practice over the years.

I don’t know if that would push DJ5 in a good way or possibly harm his confidence more.
I do think TP7 has looked great in limited duty though.

Most backups look that way. See DJ from.last year. Being a starter is just different. I am hopeful DJ gets comfortable in that starters role

Best Taisun has ever looked, which isn't saying a lot. But, I want to see more from both qbs before making judgements. Tech shoud be a pretty decent test. ACC rival. Not as good as Jawja. Better than S.C. State.

I know Dabo is always going to talk up his guys, but he says every player is special and NFL players. He has a tendency of over pumping his guys to eye rolling proportions.

Dabo says things to public to try and gives his guys the confidence they are lacking, and if he has to make them into NFL QB talking to the media, that is what he'll do bc, if they never play a down in the NFL, he will try to build their confidence while they're in college!!!

For the record, I'm not doubting DJ. I expect that he will settle in and perform better. But he has a long way to go to play like the 5 star Heisman Trophy candidate he was billed to be. Whether he gets there will depend on how hard he works and how well our coaches do with him.
If that puts me on Dabo's list, I'm fine with that.

DJ will be fine. I do hope Streeter is working with him on getting his legs and feet involved in the throwing motion. Didn’t notice this as a problem last year, but it’s easy to see how it has affected his accuracy. Flat footed, upper body throws aren’t working.

Perhaps reluctant to step up into the pocket, thinking he might get smeared. So he neglects the leg and foot work and throws more quickly but somewhat off balance, creating weaker throws. Is this fair or am I off?

once the game starts to slow down for him he'll be a stud

right now its more about learning the plays/situations/chemistry with WRs, getting the feel for the speed of the game, and then preaching to himself that he's the BEST player on the field. Once he realizes that he'll be good to go. WE had alot of busted routes against UGA that looked like DJ's fault but were the WRs fault. Again remember Ross hadn't played in a long time either and we expected him to be lights out against UGA where we couldn't make mistakes. Ross (from what Dabo said) made some mental errors. Once DJ gets his confidence up he'll start commanding those receivers to get their heads in the game and we'll start to gel. Lets just say this team will look alot better at the end of the year. UGA just got lucky with the schedule. WE had a lot of newbies in huge roles.

Biggest point Dabo made was that the loss to Georgia is magnifying everything. If that game was a win and DJ had even worse numbers than he has so far, no one would be saying to play TP7. Everyone would be saying, "as long as we're winning, don't change anything".
DJ will be fine and the team will be fine. Glad the team is not letting UGA beat them every week like some of our fanbase is.
