Have they won a big game in the last 25 years? Maybe Ohio State in 2016 or 17 but one team was not even ranked.

Agree and I struggle a bit w USC and TX too. TX has had 1 good year in the last 20 yrs and that resulted in a semifinal loss and USC was last there in 2005/6.

State Pen ? Hmm.. I don’t think choking in all of their big games over the past 10 years is “credible” ?

Clemson wasn't a top level program (excluding Heisman's tenure) until the 80's.

And then the 90's we were mediocre. The 00's we were better than mediocre but nowhere near elite.
Then the 2010's we were elite. Now in the 2020's we are very good but not elite.
So that's like 2 decades of elite (one was super-elite) and a couple good and a lot of mediocre.
Our all-time records against UGA, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida show that for most of the 20th century, we were a likely win for the established southern programs.
Obviously we are not that since the 1970's, but that is more than 80 years after CFB started.
IF we limited things to just the last 50 years then I would say we should be considered a Blue Blood program.

means Clemson is an elite program unless you have less than 20 elites.

Clemson IS a Blue Blood if you look back at the last decade (2014-2024). How in the world can Oregon or Florida State be considered? Yeah, Florida State won a Natty with Jimbo, but what have they done since then? And Mike Norvell is barely an average coach, and there treating him like Knute Rockne because he had ONE 13-0 season, and got shellacked by Georgia in a bowl game. Wishful thinking. Hate Clemson and raise up Florida State. I'm not so sure if Dabo wins 2-3 more national titles(and he can) that he'll ever get the credit he deserves as a Major College coach. The sport football world just simply can't accept Clemson and coach Swinney as legitimate because of hate. Well, all I have to say is: wait for the Georgia game.

You're right, they all hate us and are out to get us.

Given that, I'm not sure why we even have a football program. I mean, if the deck is so stacked against us, and it's so unfair, why bother?

When I think of blue bloods, I think of all those teams EXCEPT UGA and maybe even PSU. Blue bloods to me is longevity, multiple years where a program was good with different coaches, their culture stays intact, etc. I don’t think of us as a blue blood, BUT there’s no way -NO WAY- that UGA is and we’re not! I’d like to know how they got in and not us… PSU won (I think) 2 nattys with Paterno. The negative there is that both were under him (it’s the coach and not the program/school) and that huge sex scandal has to be worth for something to knock them out.

PSU under Paterno...

employed a serial homomolester/rapist as the defensive coordinator for over 2 decades. There's not a chance in he-- Paterno wasn't aware and had not witnessed at least 1 of the hundreds of sexual assaults committed by Sandusky on the PSU campus-

You guys have it backwards. Blue blood isn't about winning, it's about clout. And there is no clout like hating the NCAA to take sanctions off early after the Sandusky crime spree.
It also helps to fill 110,000 seats.

Southern Cal, Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State haven’t been blue bloods in decades.

I would definitely substitute Clemson for Penn State (what have they done lately).

That Clemson remains a top ten program is for its fan base to show a support other than the avid following on a website!
It will take MONEY band if you JUST a fan our team WILL NOT remain Top program. It’s up to you “fans”!!!!!

And sorry but Oregon does not belong in the same breath as Clemson.
I do know Alabama & Oklahoma are at the absolute top of the elite..no questions about that. FSU/Miami are definitely contenders but Miami has not done much this century. FSU won a title 10 years ago but fell off the map for a few years until 2023. Clemson was elite for a nice run of 6 years, but the growth from 2011 to 2015 was incredible little steps (mainly Watson) to make it to the mountaintop. I would put that 2016-2020 run up against most any 5 year span for any team in history and it stacks up nicely.
Oregon has some good teams, uniform changes every week, Phil Knight is their alumnus which is only reason most people pay any attention to them.
Clemson on the other hand has won 3 National Titles, been to 5 National Championship games, all while Oregon was fielding great players and wearing the latest edition of Nike gear to look all purdy.....well all that money and all that pizzazz in the uniforms does not equate to championships.
