Yes, this we know. Next man up doesn't work when the next guy is not of the same caliber. We need another super qb1 so we can ignore the rest of the stuff. Lol

Absolutely, and a good point comparing Clemson to Texas. After Vince Young and Colt McCoy were gone, Texas tanked for over a decade, and fired Mack Brown. Missing some great QB’s that went elsewhere (Johnny Manziel, Patric Mahomes, Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts…) while Texas floundered through Head Coaches….. Texas now has Quinn Evers (Colt #2) and Arch Manning on the bench. They are back on top.
Then look at Clemson Taj, DW4, TLaw, who represent 10 great seasons! Kelly, DJU, and then DJU, now Cade….. Cade has the opportunity to turn it around, but he better get started. Dabo has his back, because he does not have a choice, and we don’t have a choice in 2024!
DJ is still a liability at FSU if you have watched him. No improvement since his freshman season, a gifted, physically talented head case, Clemson grad….
Go Tigers!! Win every game, one game at a time!

If this is true (and it is as good an explanation as any), then someone needs to pony up some big bucks to get a top QB. If, in fact, the quarterback is what makes the team, then go out and find one. Maybe Dabo and a few of the other coaches could chip in...they have more money than most of our alums do.

Completely agree on this one. While he skipped over KB, we all know how much that position matters in college FB, more now than ever. We will all watch how it will work in Miami and detonate FSU.

Based on the data we have right now.
Cade, as of today, has not shown he can take a team, put it on it's back and say, "Hang on. I'll get you there."
But, then how many QBs can? Last year's Heisman trophy winner wasn't good enough to take LSU even close.
I'm beginning to think you need a great athlete as well as a great QB to win the national championship. Then, I think back to UGA last year and even this year. They have very good, but not super-athletic QBs leading those teams.
So, I'm still hopeful. But, I understand his analysis.

Held back, no, but he obviously couldn’t carry the team to a championship. I think that’s what the post is saying, you have to have good players around the QB too. I think the championship teams moving forward will build elite talent all around the offense through the portal. However, they might go 7-5 the following season if they can’t find the right players to do it again.
The first piece we need is a better QB, but we also need WRs, much improved OL (which is happening) and a back to complement Mafah. We also need play calling that will utilize them properly as well, and I don’t think we have that either right now.

Astute and nuanced, thank you bretfsu®. While by no means do I think Klatt is the brilliant mind that first noticed this, so I like how you parsed the assessment with "Cade, as of today".
I think that is fair and more intelligent. I believe in CK2, and I believe that he may be able to shoulder us back up the mountain, or atleast get us/keep us moving in that direction back like Tajh did.
And to your point on the role a generational QB plays...I think that is always going confound the quest for a Natty. Some years, all you need is one crazy good guy (like Cam Newton). Some years, you need a full team raised with the great QB play, like DW4 or TL16.

He’s right. So many people want to torch Dabo over his portal stance (and I too would like to see him use it to fill immediate needs) but that’s not why Clemson football is in a decline. They simply aren’t getting the same quality players they were a decade ago. Quarterback is the most obvious position but it’s not the only one. Kelly Bryant was a good quarterback but certainly not a superstar like Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence and Bryant took us to the playoffs. DJU looked pretty darn good when he was surrounded by the same supporting cast as Lawrence.

He's been playing organized football and going to football camps for many, many years. He's simply an average mid level QB.

Watch the first half of UGA game again. Other than the first play, Cade played great. Watch again.

He absolutely shorted most/all of those deep balls. Some were released late, others just missed.

I hate saying this, but he just isn't very accurate with his passes. I don't think his receivers help that very much, but it's not working. I want it all working. Go Tigers!

It is no mystery that it would help to have a great QB. But we also need a great QB coach that can develop Cade and now I don’t know if we have that. By the way Joe Klatt is with Fox Network that covers the BG10 so why is he talking about an ACC school’s QB.

Yeah and my uncle Mike thinks black helicopters are poisoning his tomato plants.... Ridiculous!
The first four letters of analyst spells what? Perfect description of Klatt.
Fact is dju killed the morale of the team, fanbase and killed our recruiting. Taisun was a far better and more mobile choice.
I still say Dabo needs to do what he did with TL16, make him take those deep throws more often than he would. TL racked up 6 or 8 interceptions quickly but it made him more confident with the big play ball. I get tired of a "defensive" offense - turn him loose and let the chips fall where they may, sink or swim.

I have zero respect for Feinbaum, nor for any of the folks who might think he is a real "source" of reliable information. He is an sec homer. Nothing more, and nothing less. His opinions are as biased as can be.

I don’t think he’s wrong. My only real issue with this is there are literally thousands of Clemson fans who are saying the exact same thing at tailgates, on chat boards, etc - all of which are getting paid a lot less than Joel Klatt.
This is zero substance commentary. Not even fast food media coverage. It’s less than cotton candy. Why these people get air time and $$ is beyond me.

Good take by Klatt. Trevor absolutely maksed glaring weaknesses in the roster. Save his freshman season, TLaw was wasted bc he didn't have the team around him to "win the big one". Ah...hindsight, it's 20-20 ya know?......

Quarterback choices and lack of wide receiver development. We don’t recruit quarterback or wide receivers like we did 5,6,7 years ago. We had a guy that recruited well and then he left the position he was born for to become a head coach, which was out of his depth. Maybe it’s time to let him Comeback and do the job he was best suited for. Other teams are finding real talent , 2 and 3 deep.
