If you take off the orange colored glasses the evidence of our last 3 seasons suggests he's probably correct.

I think it's fair. If you aren't going to use the same tools as your best opponents expect 3 and 4 loss seasons.

You are correct Zee. This is the year we find out if the Dabo way works or not. If Clemson has a 9-3 season or worse I think Dabo will use the portal. If they make the playoffs he will continue down the same path most likely. I would love to see him succeed doing it his way.

The Miami take obviously ridiculous. FSU has a pulse again which is nice, but it's only been two years with one ACC championship and a absolute beat down by the main offender Dawgs to end last year (opt outs be ######). I think that we actually outplayed FSU last year except in the most obvious metric - score. It is not like they have created distance from us. Is FSU really that confident with DJU at the helm?

The Miami take is obviously ridiculous? They beat us last year with a backup QB, they've been out-recruiting us the last couple years, and they've used the portal to fill in roster gaps (like at QB). Seems like a pretty easily defensible position actually.

FSU went undefeated but we have them the game last year in Death Valley. Scoop and score plus a disastrous overtime did us in. They were a better team last year, had an experienced qb and we will know soon enough if that’s permanent. DJU may be amazing, but I think they drop off a ton this year.
Miami, NC State, etc may be close but have not passed us. At best, equals, but I give the tigers the edge.

Alright using your "last 3 seasons" comment let's take a look.
Clemson: 10-3 11-3 9-4 ------ 30-10
FSU: 5-7 10-3 13-1 ----- 28-11
Miami: 7-5 5-7 7-6 ----- 19-18
Yep, the evidence suggest we've been passed alright....

Indeed. Winning is the best retort and the only true metric. There are no moral victories or should, woulda, coulda. "You are what your record says you are" per HOFer Bill Parcells.

I, maybe, could understand how he is rating FSU as recovering some prominence, but Miami's record speaks for itself, and they haven't proven themselves very well other than a win against us. Last year. Maybe its true, and we certainly should find out more this year, but as the guy on ESPN says, "Not so fast!" Time will tell.

Interesting he also didn't mention that FSU added via the transfer portal a guy at the most important position on the field (QB) that basically ran away from Clemson because he couldn't beat out a a True Freshman we got via recruiting. And Cade up to this point hasn't even been that good.

The Clemson football program is at a very pivotable point this year. Clemson football has been slowly slipping back, and as expected others will/have passed them. If Clemson doesn't assert their dominance this year and get back into the groove then this slipping back may be the trend. I whole heartedly believe this is a make or break season for Clemson football. Dabo's seriousness in fall camp leads you to believe it is his feeling as well. We know about Custer's last stand. Well this may be the beginnings of Dabo's last stand...

The lack of evidence or proof to validate saying that Miami has passed us or any assertion that this is correct.
The last 3 years (AP):
Year - Team - Preseason Rank - Final Rank (difference)
2023 - Miami - NR - NR (-0); 7-6 record 2023 - Clemson - 9 - 20 (-11)
2022 - Miami - 16 - 85 (-69) 2022 - Clemson - 4 - 13 (-7)
2021 - Miami - 14 - 49 (-35) 2021 - Clemson - 14 - 14 (-0)
Based on the facts above, my interpretation is that Clemson hasn't proven any less than Miami the last 3 years, so why is the onus on Clemson to prove it, but not Miami?

Note I do not agree with him on Miami being better, to be clear.
The evidence, however, just in the interest of helping answer your question, is they're the only team in the league with more talent in universal rankings (albeit they're not on the schedule this year), they beat us by 8 points after a road game last year where we were coming off a bye-week to rest & prepare, & while I'm absolutely not insisting that makes them better, I will say I'm thankful they're not on the schedule this season.

surpassing us. FSU will be worse. Their QB last year was really good. Their QB this year is... a known quantity.
Miami might be great. But they aren't yet. He can't say they've passed us when neither team has done anything. They beat us last year. Welp, can't win em all butone win doesn't mean anyone has passed us.

Especially when he prefaced it with this...
"I don’t think Clemson has gotten their due for what they did. Clemson has a six-year stretch that was as good as any in the history of the sport, and here’s the bad part, it happened in conjunction with the greatest 12-year stretch we have ever seen in the history of the sport (Alabama)," Klatt said, "so they were overlooked. If not for Nick Saban being the greatest coach in the history of the sport, we’re sitting here thinking, ‘Man, Clemson’s run was incredible.’ … Nick Saban ruined our view of what Clemson is right now. Totally ruined it. Now we just think it’s commonplace…What’s happening at Clemson right now is what we should expect to happen. The anomaly is Alabama.
"What’s happened at Clemson is what’s happened countless times in the sport."
and ends with this...
"And to be fair, I don’t root for this. I love Clemson," he said. "It wouldn’t take long and it wouldn’t take much for them to bounce right back…They’ve invested in the right areas. The facilities, and not in the personnel via the transfer portal, where Florida State has, Miami has. Now those rosters are just going to be in a better position to compete.”

You can't play the transfer portal game without NIL money...
3
Aug 14, 2024, 10:00 AM

and Dabo simply isn't going to start offering kids a boat load of money to come to Clemson or engage in a bidding war.
More often than not, the top rated players in the portal know where they're headed next long before entering the portal. This is largely the result of tampering, and that is something Dabo is not going to do.
He's not going to discuss specific NIL deals until after they've committed and get to campus. Right, wrong, or indifferent, that his philosophy.
If they will come to you for money, they will leave you for money.

Posts like this go against the desire some of our fans have for us to be a poor, blue collar school that just can't compete financially with the big boys.
It's a great excuse for them to use when we don't get certain recruits.

So then if a 63-3 embarrassment and 40 something players quitting on their teammates is modern football count me out. I’d rather watch Dabo has built and go 10-3 or 11-2 every year with a 9 win season ever so often. Clemson’s biggest loss was the 70-33 debacle to WVU in the orange bowl. That is when they (ESPN) started the ########## ########, the same season coot u got blown out 56-7 by Auburn if I remember correctly 37<49. So 63-3 and having quitters on your roster is FSUing.
Dabo is going to fight the way the portal is used and try to keep Clemson as a model of what college sports should be. I don’t blame him. The best players in the portal every year have already decided where the are transferring before they enter the portal. How does that happen? The Miami’s FSU’s and Georgia’s have to be contacting players and recruiting (tampering) before they enter the portal. Until the NCAA grows a pair and gains control of the portal I don’t see Dabo paying mercenaries to play because they will quit when it gets hard or they don’t get their way. I see him as a man who values commitment and keeping your word. He makes a commitment to the kids and their families and he keeps it.

this is something that the players and team are going to have to overcome. he handed it off vs GT and lost. he had countless questionable calls in the loss vs NCST. and, like Harbro, his staff cannot develop a QB. id argue that our issues are a little easier to fix.

because of some ill-advised decisions by a freshman QB learning a new offense under a new OC. Those types of things are all part of the learning and developmental process. It can be painful to watch at times but, hopefully, we'll be better for it in the long run.

We actually lost the game on a fumble on the goal line, which happened a couple times last year. Cade made some great plays against Miami, albeit his decision to tuck it in OT was certainly the wrong one. Don’t fumble the ball, no need to even be in OT.

FSU passed us? They have our old QB in his 7th season for his 5th team (exaggerating for effect). They barely beat us last year with their best team in a decade or more. They got boatraced in their bowl because they gave up. But their program has passed us? Huh. Ok...
Miami barely beat our 4 loss team in overtime last year and has been overrated every year Cristobal has been there. And they were worse before him...and they have passed us, too? Huh. Ok...
Once again, the portal is to blame. All those amazing portal players that are currently on those teams, including some old rehashes from our team, have passed us? They've each won a game against us.
Time to show them, Tigers. Time to beat the snot out of DJ Headcase and hopefully face Miami in the ACC championship and put this crap to rest.
How many of the Diniches and Klatts will give Clemson credit then? How many of them will change their tunes at all? Answer: who give a rat's ###. I'll take the trophy instead and be fine with that.

Except Clemson. 9-4 obviously is a bad year compared to our last decade, but we all watched the same games—this team very easily could have been 11-1. In almost every single game except NCST, we outplayed teams in the box score, but turnovers absolutely destroyed the team last season—and it wasn’t even just normal turnovers, it was long scoop & scores, pick 6s, turnovers in short fields. That is a recipe for disaster.
We return everything on offense except Ship, and the defense will be par for the course with some learning curves along the way.
Play clean football this season & we will easily win 10+ games.

games. So they don't know what they're talking about.
It's a vicious cycle. Losing the only primetime game on to Duke last year in the ugliest fashion imaginable set us down the "I Told You So, Dabo" path for "journalists" and they stopped having a inkling what Clemson did to finish the season... They ignore the injuries, the new systems being learned, the new coaches we've hired. We're just "Clemson bad now" in their tiny pea brains.

Clemson would have beaten Nancy State had they played a clean game. 364 total yards to 200. 81 plays to 46 21 first downs to 9, 101 yards rushing to 64. The pick six was ultimately the difference in the game. Controlled the clock and were 7/18 on third down vs 3/13. Clemson won everything but the turnover margin 2-0.

Well, the pick 6 would have just left the game tied if nothing else. The other games we had a lead and then lost the lead off the turnovers.
Realistically, if the offense can minimize giving up defensive scores while also doing better in red zone scoring, we could be make a semi final appearance. We were almost top in red zone trips, but finished dead last in red zone scoring. Fix that & the turnovers, and we will be much better team.

You lose to each, in overtime, for the first time in however many years, during the worst season you've had in 15 years, and you've been "passed by."

He's still concussed from his days playing at Colorado and we hit him in the head knocking him out of the game. With the score being 70-3, I can kind of understand how we helped him by knocking his head off, but he's still paying for it.
FSU maybe I could kind of see him making this statement, but Miami has done nothing and the media still pumps them up like it was 2001 and they were still good. They've done nothing to earn his praise.
