I hate he won’t be playing and not a fan of opt-outs.
But, considering his draft projections, he has a lot to lose. I’m not going to second guess his decision. I’m sure he has insurance but still has to be a tough call for a 21/22 year old young man with all the noise around him and so much on the line.

He used to have class. Passing up playing Tennessee in double Orange Bowl just shows he's Rooster at heart.
Don't do this, this kid has the opportunity to support generations of his family by being a top 10 draft pick in less than 6 months, a injury in the orange bowl could end all of that.
Whats more important your family well being or playing in the orange bowl?

A great way to prepare for the nfl draft is practice and play another game. All the games matter. Disappointed in this trend and glad we have avoided it until now. Best of luck but as for me I look forward to all players on the field being people who want to be here. Portals and opt outs……..sheesh.

He’s going Top 10 regardless of anything that would happen in the OB. He’s just going to train and get his combine performance down pat. No real reason to hang around.

That's true. Not like it hasn't happened before. And that was for a national championship. It was worse though. A few played in 2015 but weren't locked in... so I wish him all the best.

Call it what it is, a ##### move.

If I were a GM, I would not draft a player in the first 3 to 4 rounds that opted out unless they were just a generational talent.
David Goggins just released another book this week, and he talked about the people you want in your proverbial foxhole; it is not someone that quits on you before the job is done, that is for sure.
Murphy was a guy the coaches talked about being a little lazy; announcers also commented on it several times. This adds to that stigma, and laziness will never succeed in the NFL. I think he will be a bust if he goes in the first or second day of the draft. I would take a late round flier on him, but that is the only place I would think that the risk is worth what we know about him. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.

Sad to see supposed fans calling out someone who is opting out because he decided to skip a bowl game. Murphy is a top 10 projection. He gains little by playing and has so much to lose. You don’t have to like it but to call them a B@tch because you are upset is SAD. Get a life. If your life revolves around a Clemson player playing for your enjoyment & can’t see what’s best for him, you should probably take a look at your like and realize how pathetic your life is.

He shouldn't go top 3 rounds after playing half a_s on the field and they opting out of Orange Bowl. Not smart thing in his part playing it could only make him better pick. If he came out and totally stopped SEC Tennessee.

No surprise, Murphy has been playing half-effort, half-speed all season. A season he was suppose to be dominate, he didn't show up. You want to see a real NFL DL guy, watch Christian Wilkins video from Sunday night.

Heartfelt? Yeah, right…Oh well. Let’s hope he is the only opt out. As Henry V said, “Who is it that wishes so? Nay my good Cousin. Wish not for one man more. The fewer men, the greater share of honor.” So long Myles.

Classy statement & exit Myles Murphy
Dec 13, 2022, 9:04 PM

The best thing you can do for Clemson is work hard, take care of yourself and family, and stay smart and classy. Wishing you all the best young man!
Leaving before the bowl is not even a footnote to a great Clemson career -- it's the right move. Risking $8 to $10M in a non-playoff game with the draft coming up in a few months would put everything at risk with no value added.

I Wish MYLES had Listened more to TYLER DAVIS

It is what it is, but Myles is a great player, and I am certain a great Tiger Teammate. I just think he got to talking to too many people that caused this. I don’t think this is the REAL MYLES. Quitting on his teammates and not playing The Orange Bowl is a very bad decision for him, and I think he will regret it for the rest of his life. He’s now the 1st and only player to ever quit on Dabo and his teammates in a Bowl Game. Listen to TYLER DAVIS praise Myles as a teammate (“My guy, Spiderman”), but when asked did he think about not playing, “Oh no, I’m playing this game.” Why? “It just shows our commitment to each other, to finish you know. ...Just for the guys beside me, to finish up with them. To finish this thing off right.” https://youtu.be/BkKsAJPdMAo?t=43

Murphy is good, but there were games you didn’t see him as a force on the defensive line. I don’t know if Murphy leaving is going to leave such a gaping hole? To me, he was not that overwhelming presence on defense he was billed to be.

How dare Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence not come back for their senior seasons!
