I assume my Dad would be on the field in the picture as was a sophomore.
Also appears that student seating was on the northwest side Death Valley.
Wonder what the structures are that are were Littlejohn is now.

Those are Prefabs for married Veterans. My Dad (Clemson ‘50 & WWII Vet) worked part time building them. I remember driving with Mom from our Prefab on Williamson Road (Up hill from water plant & across from Cemetary) over to what is now vic. Littlejohn, to take him lunch.

I wonder if the picture was actually taken before a football game, or if it was another reason for all the students to gather on the field. I was a freshman in 1979 and had a few friends that had to live their freshman year in a prefab. When they were new, they probably were pretty nice, but at 40+ years old, they were not a preferred choice of housing.?? GO TIGERS!!!

My memory is failing me . I thought the old scoreboard was on the west end of the field .
Also if the prefabs were at the Littlejohn site, They wouldn't have been there in '79 as Littlejohn opened in '68.

I was a freshman in 1980 and lived in prefabs where the Brooks Center parking lot is now. At that time there was a cluster of prefabs there and just a few left in the west side of campus as well. I think 1980 was the last year students were housed in prefabs. I thought it was great... like having an on campus apartment. I wanted to live there again my sophomore year but they tore down the ones we lived in in the east side that year.

They were way past there time - small, no a/c, heated with a kerosene heater. But i'd never trade that one year for anything. It was a very cool community - especially as a freshman.

That’s probably the same group we were in. Right off Cherry Road. You can still get the milkshakes made with the same original Clemson Ice Cream at the ‘55 Exchange. It’s closed now until they reopen campus....

My Dad and three of his brothers were likely on the field. My Dad was a senior that year and went on to serve at Fort Jackson following graduation.

Tigerpaw13.......What was your reaction to the decisions to 1)stop being an all military school, 2)get rid of the A&M designation, and 3)admit women as regular students?
Were the changes controversial? Which change was hardest to accept?
