Miles & Crenshaw cafe was founded by Jim Miles and Doc Crenshaw. Jim Miles was a big fellow and would make himself a hot dog with all the trimmings, begin eating at one end and never stop, then wash it down with a cold PBR all in one gulp. The entire process took less than 30 seconds and would happen every time Jim got hungry during his shift. Then he would go right back to work, wiping sweat with that towel he always had draped over his shoulder. Doc Crenshaw and my Daddy were fishing buddies and spent many a happy hour on the water at every fishing hole in South Carolina.
In the rear of the Cafe, There was a sign over a doorway leading to the basement which said "Pool Room." When I was a little boy, I wanted to go downstairs and play in the pool and my Daddy told me I could not swim there because it was for adults swimmers only. Later in life I realized he was pulling my leg but I don't think I ever did go down to the pool room.
Doc Crenshaw had a son named Richard Crenshaw, who became my buddy when I was 12 and played Little League in Pendleton. Doc would fix us a special plate of fries every time we came by that must have had 2 pounds of potatoes on it. The cheeseburgers with chili & onions were to die for. Spent many nights in their home as Richard and I hunted, fished, caroused and played sports together all through High School. I nicknamed him "Ross" which stuck with him until his death a few years ago. Richard was an amazing athlete as a youngster, great baseball pitcher, basketballer and of course was an All-State end on the State Champions at PHS in 1966. Richard went to Clemson on football scholarship.
Sad to see Mile & Crenshaw go. Almost like a death of a childhood friend.

I knew some guys would call in a pickup order to Chanelo's before they went out drinking. When they got in they would call back and ask if any were any orders not picked up. The earlier order was waiting for them at a discounted price.

I was on the five day meal plan 78-82 and could survive the weekend on a large Chanelo's supplemented by beer of course. Send to 7A1 Lever.

Chanelo's was great after a night of drinking in the early 80's! Either carry out before leaving downtown or have it delivered.
Also, wasn't there one in Pickens too?
GO TIGERS!!!
