Hopefully, the Falcons, Tampa, Pittsburgh, or New Orleans as part of a trade. Then he replaces a good QB on a decent team that is not a train wreck like the Jets. It has been painful watching DW4 trying to carry the Texans! Then they traded NUK! Fired the coach/GM. Tough sledding for DW4......

His best point is that they should trade the #1 pick away. They could absolutely FLEECE somebody for the Trevor pick, and they NEED to do that because of the myriad talent holes. Are you saying he's wrong because the Jets' roster is good? Don't make me laugh! Or because you think Trevor is good enough to succeed there? 'Cause that's not how the NFL works. The league doesn't care how good you were in high school or college. It will chew you up and spit you out directly in the path of a blitzing outside linebacker if you don't have a good supporting cast.

I watched him say it live and I disagreed with him then. You don't pass on Trevor Lawrence. They already have a lot of draft picks. They have two first-rounders this year already. You definitely go with a Trevor Lawrence because he's obviously a once-in-a-generation talent. He is a can't miss. You trade Sam. Maybe they get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Sam. Passing on Trevor Lawrence would be like taking Mitch trubisky. Wherever Trevor Lawrence goes, he is a lock. Maybe he goes to Washington. Nobody but the Cincinnati Bengals will pass on him.

I think you are both wrong.
The only correct move for the Jets to make it to fold their team.
Let the 18 guys on their team with NFL talent sign somewhere else as backups and give the rest of their roster a nice severance package and help them find other jobs.

For Trevor's sake, I hope they pick him, then trade him away to a team that Trevor can be successful with from day 1!!!

Trevor almost certainly isn't going to end up anywhere good

At least if the Jets pick up he will end up on a bad team with draft picks to spend. If he does somewhere else the team that acquires him will spend all of their 2021 and 2022 draft capital moving up to pick him and then have nothing left to use to build around him for 2-3 years.

All for it! Trevor gets to go to a better team and the Jets hopefully fill some other holes. Definitely good for Trevor.

The team trading for him probably wouldn't be all that great either if they needed a QB bad enough to trade up for him. That's not to mention that the team trading for him would likely be giving up multiple first round picks and perhaps a few other picks as well. That would make it hard for that team to build around him.

He is exactly right. Unless you fix all of the the other problems it does not matter who your QB is. Look at Watson's situation in Houston. I would hate to see that happen to Trevor.

I was just a little annoyed about this to start off- but than thinking about some of the comments here- I changed my mind. If they take TL16- what supporting cast do they have around to protect him. If they trade him- and I think they could get a lot for him, what would be the cast of the team trading for him? It is really sad -He is so good that nobody wants him! haha

When you have a chance to draft Trevor Lawrence with 1
Oct 20, 2020, 10:56 AM

pick you would have to be crazy not to do it. They can move Darnold for a 2nd rounder or something. New coach and new QB next year - start fresh like the Cardinals did two years ago when they moved on from Rosen.

#1 If you like Trevor and want what is best for him, you don't want him drafted by the Jets
#2 If a team offers them enough, the Jets would be crazy not to trade the pick
For Trevor's sake, I want the Giants to finish with the #1 pick. Unfortunately, this is very unlikely.

sounds like something he would do. And with DAK being in his contract year and a broken ankle (not to mention that debacle last night) Jerry might actually make a crazy move like that. Any New York team is a horrible choice. Gettleman is the Giants GM and has always shown he won't spend money. the Jets haven't been good since Parcels (late 90s). I'd hate for Trevor go to a place where there is no upside at all.

The Giants are a disaster right now too

Fortunately Dave Gettleman is going to be fired this year so at least if Trevor ends up there he wont have to deal with one of the most incompetent GMs in the NFL.
The Giants are also in a similar situation as the Jets in terms of having a young QB already there that they spent a top 10 pick on. I'm still not sure why they spent a top 10 pick on Daniel Jones, but they did.

I'm never a fan of a team taking a quarterback #1...........
Oct 20, 2020, 12:57 PM

Most teams have so many needs the quarterback position is not the most important. I see the draft results every year and its sad how many guys get picked in the first round that had no business being there (Ryan Tannehill, Sam Darnold, Christian Ponder, etc.) I never have understood the logic of "the guy we wanted at quarterback isn't available, so we'll take the next best guy". But with all that being said there is no way I would pass on DW4 or Tlaw. They are great players and great people. If I had a pro team I would want great people first and foremost. And those two guys are the epitome.

Up the #1 pick, but they will have a Ditka/Ricky Williams like chance.
Look for teams with good QBs on one year deals or close to retirement to maybe offer multiple picks for opportunity to pick the NFL ready Trevor.
Indianapolis Colts Tampa Bay Bucs New Orleans Saints Atlanta (bc Matty Ice ain’t cutting it) Denver

I couldn’t agree with him more. I’m no NFL GM, but I just don’t get their thinking. Drafting another QB, even if it’s Trevor, isn’t going to single handedly turn things around. They have so many other areas they need to bolster, and should focus there first.
Also, this season is far from over. The Redskins, Giants, and others are all competing for the race to the bottom.

So face it, there is a reason an NFL team gets the 1st Draft pick, they are a bad team. One pick will not overnight change a lousy team to a good team but the hope would be that pick would be the first step in improvement. Making that decision is why NFL owners spend billions of dollars to buy a team and pay GM's and coaches millions of dollars.
