Mic Drop.
In all seriousness, it was time for that speech for 3 reasons.
1) Nothing about about the team (offense) should surprise us now. It's time for anyone that's still doing so, to stop b*tch*ng, moaning, crying or complaining. The best thing we ALL can do is show support for all the players and coaches. They know the issues.
2) This will rally the troops. As Dabo needs to coach the players (and coaches) very hard, they also need to see he has their back. It's one thing to hear it firsthand, but to see him say this publicly can carry a little more weight.
3) It's puts everything in perspective. We will have more appreciation for the wins going forward. Who knows, when we win our next National Championship, it'll feel just like 2016 did.

Look, I get it. You love Clemson. I bet you were one of those fans who thought Hatfield was amazing! I remember being one of the only people to boo him and got looked at like I had three heads for doing so, at first. Slowly, everyone started to see it as well. When something is broken, sometime complaining is the only thing that will get it fixed. You can complain and still bleed orange and sweat purple. Prime example: at the BC game I was speaking outloud about issues on almost every play. Speaking to the person who came to the game with me. Some cheerleader behind me said I should be escorted out. I turned to him and reacted a bit harshly at first. Calmer heads prevailed and I asked him what I was wrong about. He said “nothing, but you’re bringing us all down around you!” I told him that by ignoring a dumpster fire doesn’t make it go away. Fiddling while Rome burns does no good. It’s being said over and over because it’s so obvious what the problem is. The offensive line scheme stinks. It has forever. We haven’t put many in the league in some time. (On the o line) The play calling isn’t giving them a chance. How many times do you see 7 in the box with a single high safety and we run the A gap?! Those are plays you throw a 50/50 ball to the boundary or field. We just aren’t taking the layups. We aren’t converting the routine plays when they are there. The QB either can’t audible, or can’t read defenses. The OC suffers from hubris. He thinks he can stick to his plan even when it doesn’t work. Calling out the staff when they drink it up makes no one a lesser fan. It makes them passionate. I hurt for days every time we lose!! Yes, we have been spoiled. But when your recruiting keeps getting better during such a run, shouldn’t play?! One more analogy. Football is a business. If you had a business and one section was underperforming ( worst in the country), would you make changes?! Absolutely. Look at the price of a Clemson ticket RN. I have a ticket package and have been buying up extra seats to bring extra people. Our tailgate will be about 17 strong!! That drop in value proves my point. Clemson football is NOT the hot ticket is has been. I have paid up to $300 a seat for NC State games in the past. UConn seats are $9. All that said, I will still trek 5 hours to Memorial Stadium lot 5. Go Tigers. But, get your stuff together please!!!

Rome burns? It’s a business? You need to get some perspective. We’re talking about kids who are 18-22 years old. WAY to much importance you’re granting to football. When you make it so darned serious, then so much for the spirit of the game, the pageantry, the shared sense of purpose and the life long friendships that are born on campus and in the stands. I think it’s time for us to chill out. Life goes on and the Tigers, all of them, will survive now and years after they leave the school.

He's not wrong. Yes, they are kids playing a game and we are fans cheering. But don't turn a blind eye to the billions of dollars generated by college football. It is absolutely a business. Ticket prices ebb and flow with success (supply/demand) just like any other industry. Coach salaries are representative of performance and/or expected performance. NIL, while new, is also a business model.
At heart, the average fan (which most of us are) want to enjoy the product on the field, the game day atmosphere, the excitement of winning and the promise of championships. But don't be naive...that doesn't mean it's not a business.

Lol people go to the games to cheer and have fun yet you are baffled why people wouldn't want someone screaming negative #### around them the whole time?? If you wanna yell #### at the team, stay home. If you're going to do your job as a fan and root them to victory (being a "cheerleader" as you condescendingly put it) then by all means show up.

Dear Mr Know it all,
My years at Clemson, started with 3 years of Tommy West and 1 year of Bowden. So, you're wrong about Hatfield.
I agree with the guy behind you, you should have been escorted out. You're the kinda person that thinks they know everything thing and you have all the answers. The reality is, you're ruining the moment for many others.
Yes, there are people that care, but don't feel the need to talk about it out loud with others. By the way, since you were so smart and so talkative, how did all your moaning and groaning help the game that day?? Did they send an assistant up to get your opinion?
Since you're so smart, I look forward to you becoming the head coach some day and making changes after every 2-3 games. Obviously you believe Dabo doesn't know what the issues are..
So, before you go ruining everyone around you this weekend, every time a play doesn't go our way, just know this, 90% of the people around you would rather you just shut up.

We can support the team cheer and pray them on AND still be smart enough to realize the offense has some real problems! I’m so tired of the accusations about how much of a fan someone is because they don’t run around like Grinny Tiger blowing orange smoke everywhere. You can and should expect excellence and I for one will continue to do just that…

Actually we are a play or two from being undefeated. But there has been way more of those plays available if balls hadn't been dropped, or stupid penalties taking us out of short yardage 3d down plays. But true FB fans has seen there is more wrong with our offense than a couple of plays. Any team we've had since 2011-2012 would have easily been undefeated with the competition that we've played to this point this season!!!!

"we aren't anywhere close (to elite status) right now". Aren't you the brilliant one.
Do you think Dabo has proven he knows what it takes? This program is obviously in a rut right now, but yet again, the proof is in the pudding.
Pudding =
#2, #1, #4, #1, #2, and #4. Six playoffs in a row. 4 national championship games. 2 national championships.
Who else has done that, ever? Alabama, that's it. We have proven we know how to achieve at the highest level, and one season where execution has become a problem doesn't change the proven capability of this program.
Dabo has led this program to UNPRECEDENTED success.. more success than any athletic program in the history of our university. Please stop acting as if he suddenly forgot how to run a program at that level.
We will be back. If Dabo believes it, I believe it. How can you doubt the man?

Dabo, I still trust in your ability to get our FB program to where it's been over the past 7-8 years. But the coaching staff that helped to get there, some have left, and one of the main ones that left was Jeff Scott, and our offense, and our receiver production has fizzled these past two years that he has been gone.
Jeff grew up on the offensive side of the ball from a very small little kid that followed his dad up and down the side lines, and practice field at FSU was a FB giant. IMO, he was your best offensive mind that you had on staff, he's gone, and our offensive production left with him.
I'm sure that you have seen that Tony's ability to continue our offensive success without a real true offensive mind helping him to put together a winning offensive plan from week to week just isn't working. Bring Jeff back in his same compacity, or hire a legit offensive mind. I truly believe that TE is over his head as the soul offensive planner with the offense. Oh, and I would give Grisham the rest of the year, and if our receivers is still running wrong routes, and dropping more balls than they catch, he should be on a very hot seat starting now. Just the opinion of a 59 year loyal Clemson fan, and of college FB!!!! And no, I'm no coach, and I couldn't be a coach, but I have seen enough college FB to know what I'm looking at, and our offense is stinking up any field we're playing on....

I think you are partially right about CJS not being here, because he would not put you on the field as a receiver if he did not think you could block or were not blocking. However, I think he and CTE were better when CJS was the eyes on the field. The were like peas and carrots! CTE does not seem to have that geling communication with Streeter or Grisham or whoever(hope not Swinney) he is talking too.

He has a unique ability to bring people together as one unit unlike any coach I’ve ever seen. I’m sure his past struggles have made his present situation look like a hill in the road, he’ll get over it with momentum.

I have never made 9 million dollars a year...but I believe people in Dabo’s position should put some money where their mouths are.Words are...well....just words. How about .”If we don’t win the ACC championship in the next 2 years ...You can cut my salary to 4 1/2 million”? Talk is so cheap to these 66 year old ears. But right now Dabo is worth about what we paid him when we hired him.

Since Dabo took over 12 years ago, we have the 2nd most wins in America and we're clearly one of the top 2 programs in the country. This season is producing an anomaly (for clear reasons), and now these "microwave" fans act like Dabo suddenly forgot how he produced it.

He is exactly right in what he is saying AND he has every right to say it because of selfish a-holes that continuously speak out when heavy adversity hits!! Those people who constantly do that have an agenda…and, that agenda is either to sh*t talk a hugely successful program like Clemson the minute they have an off year or they are so #### self absorbed that they don’t remember that life and sport are both full of massive amounts of adversity that people & teams HAVE to go through. Dabo just reminds the real fans to “keep a little faith” and don’t listen to the dumbazzes crying any time adversity hits!! The process will work itself out as they & Tiger Nation fight through the adversity & BS “fans” (or enemies).

I love what Coach Swinney said. Keep the faith. Trust the process. He has taken the program to the greatest of pinnacles. And so have Coach Elliott. I've seen the greatness in the Danny Ford days, the decline later and the resurgence with Tommy Bowden and now the grandest era in Clemson football with Dabo Swinney. Any other program's fan (not named Alabama) would trade places with a Clemson fan anyday!
You cannot believe how proud I am to be a Clemson alum. To contribute emotionally and financially to the success of this program. A program that represents us with class, humility and integrity. What more can one want? Sure it would be nice to be unbeaten. But we played a single-score game with the number #1 team in the country. So that is how thin that difference really is. We should never forget. These are kids playing, young adults. They have to deal with school, practice, and missing home -- some of them have traveled from across the country. Yes I know they have scholarships. But they play hard and they represent Clemson well in all other ways. The winning will come. Sometimes you just have to learn to lose. Before you become a winner. Its easy to play hard when you're winning. It is a testament to character now to play hard when we have 3 losses. So the least we do -- is to thank the players and the coaches and the staff.
I see the Braves now in the World Series. In 2021. And yet I remember in 1999 it seemed like it would be every other year. But then 22 years has gone by.
So enjoy these moments with the Clemson Tigers. We live in a special time.

the Track record. The Tigers certainly have History that most teams would wish for and some teams that will never have a history ( speaking of a certain program in the middle of the state ). Clemson does have talented players, the injuries have been a nightmare. But the one thing he mentioned that is the number one problem is development. It's certain individuals that have to develop these guys and evidently someone or some others have fallen down on that job and hopefully will be looked at, evaluated, and graded. Out of this process i am sure decisions will be made. Now the Criminoles are in town this weekend and it's time to take care of business without taking the foot off the gas. Spot the D**n ball.

Tell it Dabo. Either be a fan or take your $40 IPTAY donations and head to Columbia.

100% behind Dabo and whatever decisions he makes.
Seeing comments like “I trust Dabo but…” and Dabo has a great track record but…. and the last few years have been great but…. Makes me think - Lots of but(t)s on this site…..

That’s my coach! I love to win too, but agree when he talks about perspective. It is just a game, and those are just young adults playing it. Go Tigers! Beat the Noles!

I support Dabo and I believe he will get the program back on track. That being said I’m not buying for one second DJ will be our schools leading scorer. I’m also not seeing us truly improve as an offense so far this year. They say we’re getting better but ffs we couldn’t put up more than 3 points in a half against SYRACUSE and were still completely outmatched by Pitt. Again I still have faith in Dabo but call a spade a spade.

Kevin Steele should call Dabo and say I love how you hold me accountable after a bad year but not Tony.
I would be ok with us having dropped some games this year. We are not going to make the CFP every year. I can even live with a mediocre offense this year that was towards the middle of the pack. But to have an offense performing towards the bottom of D1 can never be acceptable.
I think all of us trust Dabo, but the landscape of CFB has changed and he is going to have to adapt with it or no Clemson will not be a consistent contender.

Steele has been around like a gazillion years... does he a natty, at all? I'm not even sure he's been on a playoff team.
These meaningless comparisons need to stop.

You gotta love Dabo’s passion. He will get things fixed for sure. It may not be this year so let’s see what happens in the off-season. One thing has pretty well been proven…DJ doesn’t have the mettle to get us where we want to be. He couldn’t perform in low stakes games which turned in to nail biters. How in the world will he perform in high stakes situations? I think we saw some of that last Saturday. I hope i am wrong and he does become our all time stats leader. But he is miles behind where DW and TL were at the same developmental point. I am all in with Dabo, but a spade is a spade.

Agreed, we are ranked 117 out of 130 teams in total offense playing in a very weak conference with a football budget that far exceeds all of our conference opponents. Our published spend for recruiting is 4th in the country and we continually recruit top 10 classes. With a 93 million dollar contract comes some accountability when there's a glaring issue. I won't forecast where DJ lands but at this point he has dragged us into oblivion. No point it telling the fans we're almost there or continuing to improve. We're not improving and the numbers tell the story. We're rebuilding and will continue to play hard and see where we land. Yea, my money's on Dabo to get the boat turned but it may take a couple years which is fine. Can live without all the sunshine pumping while we stagger through this weak ACC schedule.

I don’t think it’s fair at all to blame DJ for this season.

He hasn’t played well, but neither has our offensive line, or our receivers. Even our running backs have been inconsistent.
Plus, our scheme and game planning have been poor, as have the adjustments.
In short, our TEAM, from Dabo and Elliott, on down to position coaches and players, are to blame for how this season has gone.

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about.
You're funny. You blame football coaches after A DECADE OF UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS, but you make excuses for basketball coaches who have been here for 11 years with only 2 tournament wins.

Agree 100%. It's been a very disappointing year, and people

are going to express that. Good, die hard fans are frustrated, and they're saying so. That's normal, and it's okay. We all have to realize, however, that everything Dabo is saying is true. He's not making excuses, but he's not throwing people under the bus either; he doesn't need to, and he knows that would only make things worse.
I've beotched and questioned things all along. It was obvious early on that something wasn't quite right this year. I still don't know exactly what it is, but I believe it's a combination of things, and I realize that most of them may not get fixed this year. So, I understand and share in the disappointment, but as a fan, there's only so much good my negativity can do. What this team needs right now, from me and from all fans, is unconditional, enthusiastic support. The players and coaches have earned that.

Absolutely needed to be said, the frustration is real and it's felt by everyone. But You have to find balance to be successful and if you support Clemson University and it's football program then now is the time to show it. The fans who have not been supportive of this team (coaches included) then I ask you: Are you really a fan of Clemson University or do you have another motive? Because a true fan, a true supporter would never sell out their team due to one bad season. I for one Have supported Dabo Swinney and this team from day one. I have not lost one ounce of this support due to an unfortunate season. My name is Kool Aid Jim and I am Clemson for Life Go Tigers
