probably wanted immediate playing time. was leader in sacks for state of Georgia, but D1 level is a whole new ballgame. with what we have and whos coming in, WE WILL BE FINE. Hopefully this means a certain highly rated DE from the state of SC will wear a paw next season! GO TIGERS, WRECK TECH!!!

But he was a Freshman, how can you commit to a program like Clemson, and expect to come in and just blow by people that have been ahead of you by 1 or 2 seasons. I mean XT didn't do it, and he came to Clemson as a 5 star recruit that was sought after by every major D-1 power 5 team in the country. I think that the excitement of being offered by Clemson may have been to much for him to handle if he is actually leaving bc he isn't a starter!!!

As a man that has had over 30 years of back pain, I can guess that's the reason he left. I didn't know what pain really was until I hurt my back and I've never gotten rid of it even after surgeries. Now, it's even worse with 3 pinched nerves in my back. If I were him, I would just get an education and move on if his back injury is serious.

It really sounds like you and I have been rowing the very same boat, and I got in it in 2006, and after 3 major back surgeries and one spinal cord stimulator installation surgery, I'm worse than I was after the first after before after each surgery. I have never had a pain free since the first disk popped out in 2006, and the second one popped out at the end of 2007. I have been in pain H e l l ever since without much relief from all the different pain meds they have tried.
But now with all the BS about how many people that wasn't suppose have pain meds, and they didn't have a prescription for pain meds have killed their stupid a s s self on them, and the people that really need them and have never abuse what they have, we will not be able to get them within the next year max. I just wonder what they will have to say about all the people that will put a bullet through their head bc they can't live with the mega pain day in and day out until they just can't take it anymore.
These pain meds that are being sold to ever has the cash could have been slowed to crawl years ago, if they would have adopted the same law as the one they have in Singapore, do that, and watch how quick those faking pain to get pain meds to sell to the abuser user would to a screeching halt. In Singapore, if you get caught with opiod pain meds without a prescription, it's the death sentence that will be carried out in a short while, and I would turn in everybody I knew selling their prescription!!!

Yea I don’t think that’s why he decided to leave. It says he was prob planning on RS to begin with. I would think it have to do with the back surgery he had and having a bad back. His future health is prob on his mind not starting time. He had to know comin in he would have a huge hill to climb to be a starter.

I thought the same thing. There is nothing in the article that gives any clue as to his reasons for leaving. I will assume that he has a good reason, but that it is one that I just don't know what it is.

Give the guy the benefit of the doubt unless he gives another reason not to. If he's been dealing with a back injury, that's no joke. Been there, done that, surgeries and countless rehabs later it's still excruciating and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Ouchhhh! Man what's with these kids giving up and quitting bc they will be redshirted. Where is the work ethic in our youth. Gzzzz. I'm not paying attention to the back issue. That's a scapegoat. He could still be enrolled at Clemson and we would have backed him with his scholarship until he graduated. He's leaving for other reasons just like all these other kids that see someone playing in front of them

Tell me about it, I had two of them, and those disk have been removed and the vertebrates have been fused together, and that worked out fine, but the amount of nerve damage done along with the scar tissue has kick my butt down in the dirt for the past 11-12 years after the surgeries that was done in 2006/07, and 2013. Any time I hear the words back surgery, I get scared for me or anybody else....

Fortunately for those having surgery in 2019 the techniques have greatly improved. I have a friend going through a similar back issue and he was lauding the advancements since his last back surgery 20+ years ago.

Well, since you don’t have a clue as to why he’s leaving but are nevertheless certain that it’s because of the redshirt, I’ll just call you a troll and ignore anything else you say. HTH
Maybe he didn’t like it at Clemson. Maybe he’s homesick. Maybe he’s quitting football. Maybe he’s going to the military. Maybe you don’t have any idea why he’s leaving. Maybe you’re not even really a Clemson fan?

Yes he could have had some of the best doctors that work with and treat back issues as he could get if he had stayed and allowed them to getting him back healthy for free!!! Quitting and walking away from that kind of medical attention just makes no sense, at all!!!

nothing compared to some) and I'm in pain every day just trying to get through my daily activities. I can't even fathom trying to play football. And this kid is probably 19 years old... I'm twice his age and I'm "too young to have back problems."
If he's quitting football in an attempt to get healthy i can't fault him in the slightest. He has a long life to live and living it in pain is no fun.

I mean back issue is a major problem to have at his age. If my son had to have back surgery at 18 I’d prob sit him down and talk about retiring. But even if that not the case, we don’t have to jump on this kid bc some think he left bc he was being redshirted. I highly highly doubt he decided to leave bc he was told a RS was comin. Let’s not bash the kid until we find out what really happen if that comes out. Go Tigers!!

Keep An Eye on This one...Watch the Transfer Portal

If he is truly done with football I wish him a speedy recovery. He should have taken advantage of the free education while recovering which makes me question things. School isn't cheap!
If he enters the transfer portal I suspect he was "poached" by another school promising him the world.
I hope that's not the case.

What was said was pretty vague at best, so I'm not for nailing the kid to the cross. What I have said, IF, if it is bc of back issues, I'm thinking he probably should have stayed and allowed the program medical staff a chance to see if there was anything they could do, that could have helped him get through his back issue and giving him the best chance of recovery. We have to believe that with those kids medical issues, we probably have some of the best in the business at Clemson bc, Dabo is so tuned at having the best that can be had for those kids under his watch!!!

Depending on how he was recovering, he may not have been very comfortable living on campus, plus who knows if or how well he could attend classes this fall. Moving back home and focusing on getting healthy may have been the best solution. I wish him the best.

already know the coaches do individual evaluations and discuss these with the player. In this case, Cash could see that he was going to be buried far down the depth chart, and obviously chose another option. And so, another scholarship that we needed for this recruiting class magically appears! Who says there is no Karma?

Logan, best of luck and prayers for a speedy recovery. I have been dealing with a back injury since 1976, and it absolutely is painful from the crap surgery I had then. Scar tissue buildup over the years has made it absolutely un bearable at times. Take care and hope you recover. GO TIGERS!!!

My heart goes out to this gifted athlete who was thought highly enough to earn a scholarship to play football for the Tigers. That means he was highly talented, had high character and I suspect he is grieving this turn of events. I wish him a speedy and successful return to full strength and normalcy.
His story sounds awful to me. As others have noted a bad back is an awful affliction. I wish him only the best.
Logan the guys in this thread who said "Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger" captured the way most of us feel.

Is difficult for many of us to understand but if he's in a lot of pain and facing surgery and rehab I have to think that multiplies missing his family. However there is a very good chance this might be a decision he will regret for a long time. God bless him and hopefully he will reconsider if not here then somewhere.

Having had 4 level cervical fusion, with permanent spinal cord damage, it took me out of the work force at 54 years of age...have not worked a day since. I can only speculate, but back injuries can turn someone into a paraplegic. I would imagine it is possible he looked hard at the risk/reward aspect of continuing to play, and decided it was not worth the risk. It is not like a torn ACL that only risks the function of a knee. Spine issues can put someone in a wheel chair, or worse. I can still walk unassisted, but not normally, but with a limp. My spinal cord damage also caused weakness on my right side in both arms and legs. I know any back injury would have caused me to re-evaluate my priorities if I was in his shoes. I am not sure I would want to continue being thrown to the ground by 300 pound men, and the repaired area of his back will never be 100% what it was prior to the injury.
