A overall good defensive coordinator who had one ridiculously bad bowl game against West Virginia.

I’ve heard otherwise on the good guy comment and one of his players did try to choke him. At Nebraska, he would walk down the halls and not bother to speak to his own players and they couldn’t stand him.

It was terrible, but, the man's career can't be defined by one terrible bowl loss IMO, and he has had some good jobs at well known FB programs since that terrible bowl game so, here is to Kevin Steele having a long and peaceful retirement!!!

True that, but it is tied for #1 in all-time worst bowl losses. None of us would like to be defined by our worst day.

In what way is it the worst bowl loss?

It was the most points scored in the history of the orange bowl…. So every year when they talk about records it’s shows WVU putting 70 on Clemson….. not a good luck, thats why we were all routing for UGA to score again on Fla state to beat the record

We need to thank him for two nattys with BV. If it were not for the beatdown by WVU things would have been different. If a WVU alums give you a ribbing just thank them for the two nattys.

WVU wasn't the worst loss that year.***

One thing is for sure he has worked for a lot of schools. He obviously is a very intelligent coach, but sometimes he may have made his schemes too complicated for the players. Anyway, good career for a South Carolina boy. Congrats to him and hope he enjoys a long, good retirement.

The guy who embarrassed Dabo Swinney enough
to be indirectly responsible for our last 2 National

One of the nicest dudes I have ever met. I think he'll probably retire back in SC.

I asked him one time (he was about to take a job at LSU) what it was like working for Coach Saban (this, ofc, was when I hated Saban):

"I left the facility to go get a haircut and when I came back Saban saw me walk in. "What are you doing?" he asked. "I went to get a haircut." I replied. He gave me a stern look and from that point on I learned to cut my own hair."

Steele is such a nice guy though. Sucks how his time at Clemson ended but it paved the way to the greatest we've ever had it at Clemson.

He has gotten a nice place at Edisto Beach that my buddy worked on for him. Probably ready to enjoy it. He had nothing but nice things to say about him.

i remember seeing the Orange Bowl BCS hats in the Judge Keller windows and being so proud for the first time ever

i wasn't alive in the 80s
Tommy West and Brandon Streeter were my first Clemson memories . And at the time , When the Orange Bowl birth happened . that was my best memory. to me it was better than Woodys 8-0 run .
and the Charlie Whitehurst era.

A mostly adequate coach. However, not in Orange Bowl against WV…..I fired him midway through the second half!!!

Good luck in your retirement! Unfortunately I can’t seem to forget that defensive coaching debacle in the Orange Bowl but that was one game so let bygones be bygones.

KS allegedly made a lot of $$$ during his very short tenure at Univ of Tenn.
He was hired as an interim head coach during the Phil Fulmer downfall but never
assumed the physically position because the UT BOT nullified the hire.
They then moved on to another "great hire" in Jeremy "Check your Big Mac
Container for $$$" Pruitt.
