Will Heldt didn't have much help at Purdue. That defense was absolutely atrocious.

Theoretically, he could play this year and come back next year.

I am calling 9 sacks on the season. Also, hopefully he is better against the run than these analysts think.

Opposite Side Parker contain and holding the edge was an F -minus last year. We knew where (or should have known) where teams were going to run. After 4 years , writing should be on the wall that Denhoff is about a 5 snap a game player max

From what I had heard people in the Clemson media say, I thought that being able to hold the edge and stopping the run was really what Will Heldt did best, but maybe it's not that clear cut. I understand that was the main reason they brought him here. If he turns out to be a great pass rusher, great, but the most important thing we need is just a quality defensive end who can set the edge and not get mauled in the run game. Obviously, we didn't have that at one of the D-End spots last year, and it got really ugly. And yeah, nothing against the guy personally, but I have no desire at all to see Denhoff ever get meaningful snaps at Clemson again. There's just no nice way to say it.

Very interesting article. According to McShay, Hedt in the past hasn't played well against the run. This should be interesting, being as though run defense was a major shortcoming of Clemson's defense last season. I'm sure with improved LB & Safety play (taking better angles & gap discipline) this will help with his development. Let's hope for thr best. GO TIGERS!!!! BEAT LSU!!!!

Like, he’s calling this a weird evaluation. Like, am I reading this right? I’m, like, confused about what’s weird about it other than how many times he says like. Like, could someone explain this to me.

He is like saying that he does some things, like, well, but like other things, not so well, but since he is like on an amazing Dline, he may like, really blowup and like, shine. Time will tell. He is hard to, like evaluate.

McShay calls W.Heldt ‘weird’ because, according to McShay, WH doesn’t change directions well while defending against the run (playing along the line of scrimmage) … but … he drops into coverage superbly and is unusually “shifty” for a tall guy.
That is an unusual combination of a poor mobility + excellent mobility in the same human being.
Far more typically (for a D-lineman in particular) is a man who is agile and quick in tight spaces, yet who also lacks the agility to be much more in pass coverage than an old man in a wheel chair who shakes his arms angrily. In other words, a guy who can move to a spot in a pass coverage zone and wave his hands around, and that’s about it.

He may be an enigma to McShay but our coaches 1.) know we couldn't stop the run, 2.) have seen the same tape McShay saw, 3.) know more about what they want than McShay and 4.) have inside super-duper for-you-eyes-only information from their coaches network. Therefor my supposition is that they know something that have many positive positive result for our Tigers.
Disclaimer: I also thought the same was true about DJU.
