We did Strider & Raffield. I swear we can NEVER go an entire off season and everyone be healthy when the season starts, NEVER!

These athletes put in so much time, effort and work trying to become the best athletes they can be. To see anyone lose their season, much less their last season, to injury is terrible. Prayers for JH for a quick recovery.

The Hefty Lefty. Loved his warm up song, Mountain's "Mississippi Queen." Good luck and a speedy recovery.

Tough break for him and our team. I hate it for him, especially being a senior and I know Monte was counting on him. Hope he heals quickly and has success in the future.

That's painful just to think about!

So sorry to hear this going into his senior season. Always appreciated the energy he brought to the mound.

Good to hear he will still be able to contribute. Go Tigers 2020!

What the Heck is it with all these baseball injuries

Jan 23, 2020, 2:38 PM

the last 2 years.

Are we doing something we shouldn't be? Injuries killed us last year, and we're about to start down the same road again this year.

*knock on Wood. Football has had less injuries the last 2 years than baseball. That makes no sense.

Basketball can empathize as well with the injuries.

Indeed, we have been very lucky and fortunate with very few football injuries over the last few years. Watson's ACL is the last "BIG" injury that I can think of and that has age on it.

No, Mike Williams neck injury was huge, especially when we went up against Bama in our first CFP NC game.

They all seem to be pitching injuries too. Besides Meredith thats the only non pitcher I can think of recently who got hurt, everyone else is pitcher injuries.

Unless you put all of your recruits through an MRI, there is a very little way of knowing what is inside of a college aged pitcher's arm.

I had Tommy John surgery while playing in college.

I work with some kids at the high school level and of the 15 or so kids I am working with this season, FIVE of them have had some sort or arm injury or issue prior to reaching high school.

That's 33% of just my sample size with arm issues prior to age 15.

Just imagine what another 100-150 innings from age 15-18 do to these kids before colleges get them.

The problem is that very few coaches who work with young baseball players know anything about how to truly take care of a kid's arm.

I'm very fortunate and take a lot of pride in the fact that of the many kids I have worked with, very few of them have more arm issues, but high school and college coaches are fighting an uphill battle in this area.

throw a ball as hard as they can. That's bound to cause some wear and tear over time.

What a bummer!!! I hate that for you youngman, just do your best at helping the young pitchers on the team to get the best from their arms as you can. Good luck with whatever future you choose, and your Clemson degree should go a long way at helping you to do that. You will always be a Tiger, Go tigers!!!
