And keep in mind kids don’t transfer to be “depth”, so saying we need depth at position XYZ will not be coming from the portal. We will continue to recruit HS to add depth, and then take a transfer if we have an absolute need, like WR and DE.
So what other holes do you see? And by “holes” I assume you must mean we need a transfer starter. That is, which players would you demote or cut to bring in a transfer?

Can you show me one transfer portal player that didn’t go to High School first?
One year 2 years.
How many transfer guys would you take over Peter Woods , TJ Parker, Sammy Brown and the rest of Clemson’s roster?
Dabo’s way is far superior and He has the track record to prove it! I would much rather have a committed loyal Roster straight from High School than a brand new Roster crap shoot every year.
But Alas those days are probably gone along with college athletics!

I never wanted us to build our team with the portal. Just augment the roster. Fill gaps and needs. I feel like we did that very well with the two pick ups. We are set at DT next year. Woods is back, and we bring in that kid from Florence that 247 rated a 5 star. Parker has shown me he is elite. Double digit sacks is my bar for an elite DE, and he hit that mark. Dude is going to play on Sundays. But, we have not had anyone to play opposite him most of the year. We tried, and failed to make PW a DE. He just did not have the speed. Lawson has been better. But, whether it be that he is young, or just not that good, he has been a weak point on the line at times. Cade Denhoff, to me is a disappointment. Gets blown off the ball too much. So to add this kid from Purdue, and have some young guys coming in or coming off a redshirt to provide depth, we could be looking at a very good defense next year, with an elite D line, backed by a 5th year senior and an athletic freak at LB, and a good secondary. Add to the offense a guy that might be the fade route 50/50 ball receiver we need on an offense that brings back it's QB, Almost the entire OL, and the entire starting WR core. We might be really dangerous next year, favored to win the ACC. I just have this feeling, that these two portal pieces were exactly what we need to make a run like 2016.

I think there was some fair criticism towards Dabo's reluctance to use the portal until now. I do think he thought he could get away with never using it. And has since realized that it is just part of the game now. Give the man credit, he changed course when he saw the tides changing.

He was already "evolved" .... simply never got the right set of circumstances to align. Two things have to happen:
1. Need. We have to hava a need.
2. The players targeted have to want to come to Clemson and fit in the program.
Looks like we got 2...
July 1st scholarships go to 105, that provides a little flex for the program to not hose over a kid that earned their stripes, just so we can say we have a transfer guy.

I can keep posting this...
Some people act like the portal is a menu at a Chinese restaurant..."I'll have the #1 from the WR column, and the #3 from the OL column, and add in a #7 edge, thanks." and that it just happens becuase you asked for it...
Remember that about half of all the kids in the portal have just thrown away their scholarships, because they will never get another offer to play anywhere--they're just not as good as they think they are.
So we just need to identify the players in the portal who:
* fill some gaps in our lineup
AND
* are not "problem children" on a path to drugs, DUI, arrests...
* are willing to fill those gaps, even if the gaps are 2nd and 3rd on the depth chart
* are willing to sign without any guarantee of playing time unless they earn it
* are willing to sign without up-front NIL guarantees
* want to be at Clemson instead of somewhere else (any of the above being more important to the kid)
Pretty sure Dabo would sign these kids in a heartbeat. Why wouldn't he?

That ladies and gentlemen is how you properly use the transfer portal. You don't go out there spending millions of dollars to sign 35 players from the portal. You only select who you need from the portal and stick with the young men who have been loyal to Clemson from day one.

Now everyone here knows cfb is broken with no limits to NIL, unlimited tampering, a case now for no class attendance and no graduation rates etc.

Happy to see that we are open-minded and I wish this guy well. Though in keeping with Debo's thought process you have to wonder why a guy that is doing very well at his school would give up on his team and transfer?

Purdue went 1-11 this year and only scored 150 points all year (12.5 avg per game) and that includes 49 points in their only win vs Indiana St.
So a quality player on a bad team wanted to join a winning program that develops players on and off the field … sounds like a smart move by him.

Hope Goodwin doesn’t him up. Remember Makuba’s comment, “I just wasn’t improving” here. Not impressed with our continuous defensive decline with supposedly elite players.

He is only 19 years old with 2 years of college football already under his belt. His best football is still ahead of him. Our DL staff will take him to an even higher level over the Spring and summer.

This is how it works. The people that think only quitters go to the portal, don't understand the dynamics. Here's a young man who is getting better and wants to play at a higher level. Not to be naive, he also wants some cash. Same with the kid from SEMU, there are kids that just weren't high on radars coming out of high school. The portal is a second chance for them to level up
