Well, we haven’t looked impressive on paper (for those that don’t watch the games) for the last few games.
We’re an easy target for low info voters that don’t watch the actual games because of the way our coaches coach.

We’ve played BAD teams (besides UGA). And look what happened against UGA.
Now, we’re not the only ones. Notre Dame skipping us is mind blowing. And SEC or BIG10 teams who barely beat unranked teams at home (looking at you, OSU) don’t drop like ACC teams would.

That’s my thought, though at least I can wrap my head around this week’s AP (in the vicinity of Clemson’s position). In the absence of common opponents, true comparison is hard to quantify but the rankings would line up with a “deservedness” criteria of priority on good wins over bad losses. Of course, voters have their own reasons and you can’t generally count on the poll for much validation or consistency.
Our week 1 loss is far less embarrassing than the losses on the schedules of similarly ranked one-loss teams but those ahead of us do have those ranked wins.

Would Bama or any of the top SEC teams drop whatever their ranking was coming out of their bye, why H E L L NO, they usually gain spots!!!

They didn't just start hating Dabo bc of his opinion on the portal, they've been hating Dabo since the day he was named the HC of our Clemson Tigers bc he didn't have to take the same road to becoming a HC as most Head Coaches had to take, and they've resented him ever since!!!

We'd play ranked teams & that would help.
Being in the ACC I still say is a gift in spite of the atrocious competition; with the first-ever rule for getting into the playoff & a league that helps us schedule no bye-week opponents even this year when everyone has two (some have three), I'm thankful for the opportunity in spite of wishing the ACC could give us better competition one of these years so we could better handle things & maybe even have opportunities like the Heisman.
With this schedule, the opportunity is winning the ACC again, that's all, & that's OK!

This makes our down the stretch games all that more important, and we will have to win out and just maybe we'll be inside the top 10. The most important thing that we all must remember, and that is our Tiger team didn't cause the ACC to be what everybody thinks about it, it has been every team in the ACC but Clemson that has refused to build and keep a really competitive FB program, and it's Clemson who suffers the most from our member school's slackness!!! Anybody who says they would rather we stay in the ACC, it's only bc they're not really into power sports, any level of sports they are ok with as long as the ACC keeps a good academic record, news break, the ACC isn't the only conference that has a good academic record, and the ACC isn't even at the top as far as higher academics!!!

To be totally honest, Cade needed the types of teams that we've been playing against to build his confidence. A couple more game like with Georgia up to this point would have broken Cade and he would have never recovered. Cade came in as a 5 star QB, but I think that most of us know that Cade wasn't near the college entry level QB that DW4 or TL16 was coming in as college entry level QB. Cade was a very good HS QB, but he could have easily been broken if he would have chosen one of the better SEC schools coming into college...

I agree with clemvol, none of these polls matter.
But think about something. How upset would everyone be if we had Iowa St, or Indiana's record and both of them had our resume, yet they were ranked above us.
We should be 13th. Because everyone would be raising all h e ll because how could we be ranked below a 1 loss team 🤔 and you know I'm right because it used to happen all the time.

Clemgalalways you're right, but I will go on to say that if Dabo and Riley don't make it a top project to do whatever has to be done to bring in another DW4/TL16 like QB, we won't be seeing anymore rankings inside the top 5, and if the ranking are all that important to our fan base, we shouldn't be happy unless we are inside of the top 5 bc that's where we need to be to play for and win a national title!!!

So, Texas A&M moves up 4 spots because of win against LSU. Notre Dame moves up 4 spots because they beat Navy (and previously beat the Texas A&M team that just beat LSU). ok.
I guess the AP voters forgot about the loss to Northern Illinois that have lost 4 of 6 after beating Notre Dame (was not a fluke if you watched the game). Losses to Buffalo, Toledo, Ball State and NC State.
What a crock. I could see ND being ranked 8th if undefeated -but are they completely ignoring the loss to a horrible Northern Illinois team??

Notre Friggin' Dame. I watched their game against Navy and the ND offensive line outweighed the Navy defensive line by what looked like 70 or 80 lbs per man. Navy is a good team when playing the smaller, slower teams of the world, but they were simply outplayed by a bigger, faster team.
No way Notre Dame should be in the top ten. They lost to Northern Illinois for goodness sakes! Clemson lost to Georgia. Then, Clemson gets pushed down the chart by Notre Dame when Notre Dame gives the 'TV affiliated powers-that-be' an excuse to move them up into the top ten so that they can make the playoff and draw TV viewers. Tell me any other way this makes sense. I guess I could claim blue-blood favoritism, but money-chasing is more likely, in my opinion. ok, rant over...

It really comes down to the teams Clemson has beat continuing to lose and be unimpressive. It has to do with strength of schedule. The solution is to not pay any attention to this ranking and focus on beating VT this week. In the end the ACC title trumps all the rankings. Gotta get the title. The end.

If we had a tougher schedule we would be in better shape in this regard of dropping or staying the same.

I want to agree when I see post like this.
Except; Notre Dame lost to dang on - Northern Illinois at home.
Notre Dame also, went to Kyle Field and beat Texas A&M by 10 points.
LSU has escaped few times and have been lucky to not lose so far.
We'll see if our schedule makes a difference moving forward. Louisville has a winning record and should be ranked. Pitt same story. Maybe VT as well.
SCaR will be a good win(if we handle business that is) just b/c of the patch on their jersey let biased voters tell it.
There is time and more upsets and losses are going to happen. Clemson just needs to control what it can control and come out and play to it's potential. A focused Clemson team beats everyone left in the ACC including Miami, Pitt and SMU.
I think - just like many other times - teams are not giving some of these other schools credit. Thus discrediting what Clemson has done. I think like those other times; history will repeat itself again if Clemson doesn't beat Clemson.
