We paid an Activity Fee last century. Don’t recall it being optional. Basically a ticket for all events. Was punched when getting football tickets before game.

Activity Fee was for Clemson UNIVERSITY programs (fike, intramurals.etc)

was not tied to the athletic department.

So everyone who was a student had to pay a fee whether or not they were going to use any university athletic facilities and none of that went to the athletic department to support university teams?

I doubt that.

But if that was how it was and it was OK with the BOT, then it is should be ok today to charge every student a fee purely to support the collegiate level sports that formally represent Clemson University.

Go Tigers!!

Of course. That's how fees work, much like taxes: any idea how many roads you helped fund but never used?

Unfortunately, we're in a situation where we have to do just about anything we can to close the revenue gap.

To live in one of the on campus apartments my daughter is in and there are two of them paying that. And that’s for five months. They change the door codes during Christmas break. We will have to pay it again for the next semester. Highway robbery.

THIS!!!!

Add an athletic fee if you can guarantee all students entry to the game.

So let me get this straight. Does board care anything for parent or students or are they padding the bank account.

If the BOT wanted more future IPTAY members, then students should be given free

tickets to pack the Hill.

At a bare minimum:
Award better seats per a point system. The more non-football events you attend, the more points you earn, better seats. Throw in more academic and cultural incentives if you want. Earn more points... earn better and more football tickets.

For that matter allow them to buy points. How is that different than iptay?

It’s really a scam to shorten the games by running the clock, but t add more commercials to keep the same overall game time. That may be a way out of the acc. You added 20 minutes of commercials to our contract that was in place.

Surely the board realizes the students after they graduate give to iptay and buy tickets. Take away game tickets and shoot your cash cow?

So true! It feels like nothing has changed but more commercials, same amount of time and horrible game tempo from commercials .I have not looked at the figures but Ive been to every game so far and that is how it feels

Remember that we used to have 2-minute TV breaks? Now it's 3 minutes. If you're at the game, look at the portable timer on the field during the timeout.

You can thank the multi- million dollar TV contracts and conference networks for longer commercial breaks. Someone has to pay for it and that would be by selling more commercials.

I guess they are conservatives only when it comes to them dealing out there money but hey when it comes to others give baby give.

This article is light on details. Feels like click bait. Is this a mandatory fee for all students. If so, this is greedy AF.

long ago. Speaking as an alum and a parent. Even if students can’t get tickets to FB they get in free everywhere else. They should modify the ticket distribution though for FB-no one should get 4 until everybody that wants one gets at least 1 game. Also good with a points system based on other events.

My wife and I graduated in the 90’s and we never missed a home game (still don’t). We could barely afford the tuition and cost of living at the time. My two kids are both graduates and we basically had to buy tickets for them to attend on top of the $27k a year to attend. Last time I looked (every game) we have lots of upper deck seats in the corners that are empty. The revenue loss for the student tickets is peanuts compared to the tv revenue and other endorsement contracts. Every student who wants to attend should be able to get a ticket up until the point that they don’t use the ticket. We need the stadium full and cheering on Saturday.

Not a fan of this at all. My daughter has graduated so won’t affect her/us directly but with NIL and Rev sharing already going to athletes, that’s robbing the poor to pay the rich IMO

Too many unknowns to say if I would support it or not. Assume it’s mandatory for all students regardless of whether they attend athletic events. Do only athletes benefit from the fee? How much is the fee? I already pay $28k annually for my son to attend.

I had to pay this for both of my boys that attended other schools. I also had to pay for myself when I attended grad school in Augusta. I am surprised that Clemson has not implemented this before now.

Triple it and charge international students.

We already have way too many international students. We're a state college, with a mission of educating students in South Carolina. If more money is needed, add it to the tuition of International Students. They've been flocking here for years. Make them subsidize sports.

American colleges and universities are big big business nowadays ...and it ain't going away.
My daughter attended Clemson from 2016-2020 and I doled out (after schollies) over $100k in that time frame. Now some of that was off campus living , but Clemson (in state) was costing me about $20k a year .
What's another fee ...right parents ?
