"...the first possession of the game and the last possession of the game really aren’t all that much different.
....That’s why the split-second that a ball is in the air as the buzzer sounds is the most beautiful moment in sports."
Must be why NBC doesn't do college hoops.
It's fun giving the media a taste of their own 'sound bited-ness'.

Unless they can beat 'Cuse and make some noise in the ACC tourney, this team looks like they will go far in the NIT.

I'm much more impressed by our ~.500 ACC record
Mar 7, 2019, 4:20 PM
|
|
than I am some of these other bubble teams with conference records 2-3 games under .500, or overall records just above .500. I realize that a lot of analysis goes into the quality of wins and losses, and that comparing one team's record to another isn't always apples to apples. However, because we do look at details, our very close losses and bad breaks should factor into it.
I don't think there is any debate that we belong in the dance.

Agreed. I also believe last year's sweet 16 run could be a factor to the commitee. Maybe not meant to be but in their heads im sure it is. Our NET should help but Texas is higher so that is worrisome. If we beat Cuse we are in. Yes we are 1-9 in quad 1 games but 3 of those were against top 5 teams and 2 others were 1 point Ls on the road. Idk what all they look at. Losing to Creighton, Nebraska, and Miss St surely does not help tho. 9-9 in the ACC with the SOS and NET we have should be enough tho. Pulling for everybody to lose tho just in case. Temple winning tonight didn't help us any. Seton Halls win last night hurts but OSU, Gtwon, and NCST losing helped.

What have you be smoking lol ; you have to win games to be in ; if you go by close games then the 2 point win against a very , very bad team (Pitt ) should be a negative rather than a plus .

What have you been smoking? We obliterated Pitt both times. Do you even watch basketba... wait, I see that T-net %...
Our average margin of victory is 13.8 points. When we win, it is by 10+ in most cases, then we lose, it is by a possession.

We beat Pitt by double digits both times we played them.

The question is, what are YOU smoking?
I'm not saying that wins shouldn't matter. My point is that since there are teams on the bubble with worse overall and conference records than we have, the details obviously matter and the way we lost should be a factor.

Why are you ignoring actual wins and losses? Also, Clemson beat Pitt easily both times. Please pay attention.
If Clemson beats Syracuse, they'd have 19 wins and 9 ACC wins. With a win over NC State, they'd have 20 wins and 10 ACC wins. Those should be plenty of wins to get Clemson into the tournament.

then it will take at least 2 wins in the ACC tournament to have a shot at the NCAA's.
You say you don't think there's any debate, but obviously there is a ton of debate about our chances.
Go 9-9 I think we're, but might need to beat NC State as well. Go 8-10, and that's pretty much all she wrote.
And again, if we don't make the tournament, with this team, in year 9, then its time for a new direction.

this saturday against CUSE. Hope the 3 ball is going down and defense is on point b/c they're going to force us to shoot outside with their zone. They always have tall rangy guys that give our smaller guards fits because of needing to shoot over the top of them. Usually doesn't bode well for Clemson. But now is good of a time as any.
GO Tigers!!

ses certainly matter. In fact that may be the most important parameter. However I don't think it's more important than everything else combined. The analyst's view is too narrow to suggest we shouldn't even be on the bubble, in or out. I think realistically we need to take care of business vs. Cuse and State and at least play UVA tough. The final call will also depend on what some other teams do this weekend and in their tournaments. Go Tigers.

He's bias against the ACC! You can tell by his arguments. The fact is the ACC is the most dominant it's been in decades. We possibly are going to have 3 number 1 seeds. Clemson has played all 3 teams. UNC we should have beat (robbed at the end by silent Swofford zebras). Clemson has been in almost every single game it's lost at the end. We aren't getting destroyed by teams. We are getting upset by teams. There's a difference. 4 teams had to beat us by luckly hitting last second buzzard shots. I will say this much ...Clemson controls it's own destiny. If we belong we will beat Syracuse and beat NCState to prove we were the better team early in the season. #2 we need more help from our bench. Consistent help. Trapp is doing a good job, but we need some more help at the 3 position. Simms disappears every game. Newman may as well be an offensive ghost. Tyson needs to play early to stay warm. Needs to improve consistency too, but he hustles. Overall I'm seeing improvement by White and Skara. Skara is playing his best offensive ball down the stretch. If we can get more from Simms who's a starter than that will take more focus off Reed and Thomas to open their game up

The ACC is only the 3rd best conference this season by the Sagarin rankings and 5th best by the NCAA’s new NET rankings. Hardly “the most dominant it’s been in decades.” Yes, we have 3 really good teams. That’s 1/5 of the conference and the other 4/5 aren’t scaring anybody.

we really haven't beaten anybody this year. Yes, VaTech, but their best player was out, hurt. That victory was like drinking non-alcohol beer, kissing your sister (unless from West Virginia), shooting blanks
We need to beat CUSE, NCSt,and then Virginia ... and then maybe we could be deemed worth for a very low seed or a play-in spot, and that's it
How come the Woman's Program got turned around so quickly ?

But since you’re into that, please cut our team some slack for losing to Mississippi State when we didn’t have Reed and losing to UNC when we did not have Skara.

This is obviously one of the best 40 or so teams that should get invited to the tourney. We'd have 3 more wins if the ball had fallen a bit in our favor. That said, we shouldn't be in this situation every #### year. Yet, here we are... again.

The metrics say we should be solidly in with 2 wins
Mar 8, 2019, 12:41 PM
|

I don't know why these guys are just ignoring how those metrics are calculated, and are instead just looking at "quality wins" as if all the losses for teams like Texas are wiped out by that. A team like Texas that's just barely over .500 shouldn't get in over a Clemson team that finishes .500 (or, potentially, over .500) in the ACC with wins over VT, Syracuse, and NC State.
