Great guy, average head coach. He seems to have a great relationship with Dabo and has always sang our praises. Wouldn't be surprised if he worked here down the road.

The guy was a class act, just couldn’t get over the hump in the W column. I wish him well and hope he doesn’t end up at FSU.

Stupid move by BC. He is a great coach. They will not find anyone better to coach there.

I agree. Stadium 44k. No facilities, only thing people care about is the patriots. Ran a clean program and I think went to bowl games 5 out of 6 years.

Seriously speaking, coots should shell out 20 mil and hire Addazio... knows Florida. Did good there and can recruit the area.

Boneheaded move. Good luck BC. Defense wins championships. Actually, I believe I’m right in saying he just brought in their best class. Odd.

Were there any recruits that we would take bc, usually firing a HC ruins recruiting for that season, remember the dandy dozen!!!

Agree.

BC shouldn’t even be in the ACC. I realize it’s all about the $, but WVU should be in instead of them. Won’t even bring up Maryland.

There aren't 28 elite coaches...and scarcely 64 to be considered average. There are classy coaches, though and Adazzio is one...a super representative of the college game, one who respects the institutions, players and opponents. Firing is great...but who you gonna get that's better than what you had? It's BC's loss...not Adazzio's.

Addazio is a good coach and a good guy. I don't get these schools firing their coaches right before the early signing period. Things have changed--administrations and BOTs need to realize it.

They easily forgot that Spaziani led them to 2-win and 4-win seasons just before Addazio was hired. It was a mess.

He is well respected all over and won't be unemployed for long. Produces some of the best OL talent in the game. I would hate to see him land in Columbia.

Ha ha, don’t worry he won’t. At least not this year. The only two coots who WANT muschimp to stay are Tanner and possibly the new president. But they are all that matters. They are so bad it’s almost no fun to pull against them. Just another in-state schooll like Furman or Citadel.

Dec 1, 2019, 6:00 PM

Glad to see all the positives on coach. I live in the area and am not a BC fan, but I like him and thought he was doing a good job. Class act, kids play hard for him, etc. Nobody cares about BC up here, no one. They are a blip. Can't get top end recruits, etc. For him to win 6-8 games a year I thought was admirable. I agree, BC will regret this, they'll win 3-4 games the next 5 years

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well dang...

Dec 1, 2019, 6:13 PM

I hate that this happened to Coach Addazio. I really liked Addazio and thought that getting bowl eligible would give him another year at BC. The guy can coach and a lot of BC's troubles are due to them losing their starting QB to injury these past 2 seasons.

Now that he is a free man - wouldn't mind seeing him as an assistant here at Clemson. Addazio is an old school kind of guy that you can count on to breed physically tough players. Me thinks BC will someday regret this decision...

Dec 1, 2019, 6:20 PM

OK, I wonder, how would it go over if he went to...

Florida State? That would be a real knife to Florida... but keeping him in ACC I think would be an acceptional idea. Would he do it?

Missouri?

Arkansas?

Syracuse?

Heck yeah, if we had an opening for an oline coach, hire him in a minute.

Maybe he told the administration the truth and they wouldn’t back him up.

Kind of surprised how much support Addazio gets here

Dec 1, 2019, 6:48 PM

He's a 7-6 coach, hes supposed to be an offensive guy but he routinely fields terrible offenses at BC, and their once-great defense, established by Don Brown before he left for Michigan, has steadily eroded to the point that its flat out bad now. Adazzio has averaged 3 league wins per year over his 7 seasons and his best finish was 4-4. BC was awful this year and their 6 wins is just a sign of how bad the ACC was in 2019. They got blown off their home field by KANSAS!

There's also plenty of recent history of BC achieving more than 7-6 seasons. Tom O'Brien and Jeff Jagodzinski were both very successful at BC before Spaz ran the program into the ground and Adazzio failed to resurrect it. The job is probably more difficult now, and the next coach very well may fail but there's no reason for BC to think they can never escape 7-6 purgatory.

Addazio seems like a great guy and he may do well as an assistant again, but I dont see any evidence to suggest that he's a good head coach.

I think you could still make hay playing that way even today , but you'd need to have a roster full of 4s and a few 5s .
At BC its 2s and occasionally a 3 or 4 in a good cycle .

Dec 1, 2019, 8:28 PM

He won only 7 games per season. Until this season, when he won only 6. Results are declining and he's been given enough time one would suspect. Is it not better for BC to at least take a chance on the unknown when the known is mediocrity?

Re: TNET: Boston College fires head coach

Dec 2, 2019, 12:04 AM

Hopefully, BC has done a fair evaluation on where they want to go with the program. If they intend to make a commitment to have a superior program, it will take a financial commitment that they have not made at this point. If they are going to make the investment, then they may be better off with someone else. If they intend to pay at the low end of P5 programs and consider their facilities acceptable, then they probably should have stuck with Addazio who has given mediocre results while running a clean program. Too many schools think that the right coach can give them an elite program all by himself which is just not realistic.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I liked Adazio

Dec 2, 2019, 12:54 AM

Not sure how good BC can be in the post Matt Ryan era. Along the same lines. I have a lot of NC State friends. Their glory years were under Chuck Amato a generational QB in Phillip Rivers. What I’m saying is a great QB doesn’t create a great program... programs that get great players, often unsolicited, year after year are great programs. Sure, if you have a Phillip Rivers or Matt Ryan you’ll put a couple good years together, but then they turn pro, and you realize what is left in the cupboard isn’t nearly as good as what you just lost.

Dec 2, 2019, 4:56 AM

Went to a BC message board and most of the posts stated they glad Daz was fired. He obviously was not popular among a large portion of the fan base.

Who are they going to get? That's a tough job IMHO. Bad weather, long trips, poor facilities, mostly a Pro city. I think they won't be better with whoever they can convince to take this HC position. Good Luck finding a decent coach. BC fan base seems just as delusional as the coots.

It's always gonna be tough to get over the hump at BC. He did pretty well considering he didn't have a QB named Matt Ryan or Doug Flutie. I understand the pressure BC's under to be competitive in the Atlantic, and they probably had little choice in the matter, but I would've liked to see him get at least one more year. They're going to have trouble hiring an upgrade.
