Punter situation - student tryouts, anyone?
Back one year in the 1980’s (I think I’ve got this account right), The Danny had student tryouts for punter. Clemson baseball player Bill Speirs won the job and performed well during that season (maybe he did punting for another year too).
We’ve got a soccer team. Also a baseball team. Who knows, maybe a regular student (gasp!) who was a good punter in HS. This guy doesn’t have to be the starting punter. Maybe just for a backup role.
Scholarship limits have been raised.
Why not?

I would like to see more emphasis on special teams (dedicated coach). It can win or lose a game. We can do better.

last football games with my son-n-law….(who played baseball for Clemson and in the Majors for 11 Seasons), in his early 30’s and has one year of College eligibility remaining …..decided to go out and mark off 50 yards in 10 yard increments. With jeans and running shoes on, he consistently punted the football 45-50 yards with a few rolling past the 60 yard mark (the ones i couldn’t catch). I was trying to catch most of them 😊. I told him I’d pay travel expenses if he would “try out” this Spring…..👍🏼😊 Go Tigers…!!! 🏈🏈🏈

It would be nice to have a powerful return team as well. Good punt returns help win games and are some of the most exciting plays of a game imo.

McDonough said Hauser was one of the best “high school” kickers in US history. Sort of left that key component out of your “quote”, which by definition, needs to be verbatim.

Nolan Hauser is 1st class.
If Jack Smith backed up Swanson, his skill set must be fearfully unspeakable.

Saw him punt in high school. The kid can boom it. He would also make a great option for a fake punt with his speed. Not to mention that you’d have a serious upgrade in punt coverage with him back there instead of a traditional punter.

Thank goodness his time is over. I'm sorry but he was TERRIBLE!. It would drive me crazy watching him boom punts in warm-ups and then see what he actually produced on the field. A good punter who can flip the field is a wonderful weapon to have, hopefully we can find one!

It is well past time to have a STC with no other coaching responsibilities. Sure, other coaches would have to assist him with personnel and implementation during the offseason and game week prep, but he’s in charge of and responsible for STs only.
