I remember watching this game on you tube and looking Klubnik up afterwards bc he looked like the better prospect(Ewers was the #1 QB in the nation going into that game), was surprised Klubnik was not committed anywhere at that point. Did not anticipate Clemson being a player in his recruitment.

Here’s to hoping the “Dr Pepper curse” continues for Ewers

There's a lot more to the story than this. It was father against son with Todd Dodge coaching Westlake and his son Riley Dodge coaching Southlake Carroll. Westlake was on a roll at the time with some really good players besides Klubnik. The WR is at Notre Dame, Two OL are playing college football. The defense was loaded with two bookends at DE that are now at Texas and one of the DBs is our All SEC safety and he picked off Ewers twice in this game.
Ewers was also a grade behind Klubnik and he reclassified and skipped his senior year because Ohio State offered him a million and NIL wasn't legal in Texas yet at the time. He had been committed to Texas, but switched to the Suckeyes.

Westlake was loaded across the board and SLC was not. Big talent difference across the board.

People make way too much out of QB rivalries since they never play against each other on the field.

I personally, liked Klubnik better than Ewers at the time and probably still do. Ewers is pretty good when healthy, but he's nearly always injured.

Ewers and Klubnik were the same grade until Ewers reclassified.

I thought Ewers had a D1 wr and a few OL as well. Those schools are always loaded.
