Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields? The experts weigh in

Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields. Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence. The debate over which quarterback is better and which one will be deemed worthy of the top overall pick in next year’s draft will continue all season, but several experts have already weighed in.

Maybe this year Trevor will be forced to trust his recievers

Jun 22, 2020, 9:29 AM

no Tee, no Ross...clean slate. The only glaring weakness i saw last year toward the end of the year was he seemed to rely on those two alot. Alot of forced throws in the dirt because they weren't quite open enough. the moment he leans on the progression and just hits the open man is the moment he's ready for the NFL. Hopefully all the WR will know their routes too but Trevor needs to be a 400 yd a game QB. He's too good not to be. He was barely a 200 yd passer in his last two games and i don't think he'll have nearly the same amount of time to throw as he did last year. I think he's waiting for "his guy" to get open too much. He just needs to throw it to the open receiver. Get the 8 yard out instead of the 35 yard hitch to Ross. This year (if we play) he'll be forced to spread it around more and it will be good for him to get that confidence.

Trevor Lawrence has a HC that winning games is all that he is after, the end results, period. Dabo isn't, and he's never been a players individual stats coach. Once the team has played well enough to get way out in front of opponents, the #1's are coming to the side line and watch the game from there while the younger, less experienced players go in and get snaps that help to improve their game as in building depth that benefits the team with snap count experience. If the guru's haven't learned that by now, then they probably won't ever get it. Personal, I'm OK with the way Dabo leads his team through a season, bc so far, it has helped our Tigers win two NC games, played in 4 NC games, and they have played in 5 straight playoff games.

Go Tigers, we're ready for another Championship season with Dabo leading the way!!!

Individual stats for bragging is not what i'm talking about.

Jun 22, 2020, 3:07 PM

We played two subpar offensive games against Ohio State and LsU. Should have lost both. OSU just didn't want it. If you recall, Deshaun's highest outputs were against the biggest teams. The offense seemed to never stagnate much. They were very fluid. Trevor had that type of game in his big blowout NC over Alabama. Those were games where we didn't seem to be out of rhythm.

I'm saying if Trevor is in the 325-400 range that tells me our offense is getting yards and we're not stagnating. And this isn't Cole Stoudt behind center. This guy is a great player that didn't look comfortable against OSU and LSU. Somehow these defensive coordinators figured out how to scheme Clemson offensively. And it showed last year. Hopefully our Offensive staff has figured out the glitch and will get that offense lubed back up.Because we have all the parts to be the best. You can't really complain about lack of talent at Clemson anymore. This isn't the Raymond Priester and everyone else just get out of the way years. We have some guys that can produce if given the chance. I just want to see him man handle a good defense and dink and dunk down the field like brady and demoralize teams.

The main difference is time before we run plays. We are taking to long and the defense adjusts before the play. Call a play, run the play! QUICKLY!!!

I think so too, I want him to have a monster year. He’s the type of guy that can take a 6 yrd pass to the house.

TIGHT END

Add the difference(plus) in catches here to the difference(minus????) in Tee's replacement and there will be about the same total.

We seem to forget that when we won the National Championship in 2018 Justin was a freshman and T was a junior. Lawrence was a freshman too, as we know. But my point is that the young receivers put on a show against UA. We have another young receiving corp, for the most part, with freshmen whose talents we have not seen yet. We need to get past T and Justin and focus on Rogers, Ngata, and others, including the freshmen, who can and will step up. Let's just hope we get to see them play this year.

Losing Higgins and Ross is huge and makes our ability to dominate defenses with the pass a big question mark. Either way, Lawrence and Fields are going to be very wealthy young men but if our offense goes through Etienne, and it should, the passing numbers may not be great. If defenses key on Etienne, and they should, and if the receivers step up, Lawrence could have a monster year. Finding balance is the key.

We need Trevor to be better than he was last year. I fully expect him to do that.

Not sure if Fields can play better than 2019 before he was injured. We'll see.

against each other so we knew which one was better. Oh well, guess it's Fields because he puts up huge numbers in games that are already out of reach.

Fields has a 10 TD game against Akron and Trevor only plays a quarter against our cupcakes. Every ESPN "analyst" will be slobbering all over Fields.

Stats mean diddly when measuring his potential for long term success. An NFL club is going to jump all over Trevor Lawrence, but Fields is really good, too. I just don't see them in the same league, and I also wondered about other QBs like Jameis Winston. I never saw it. I just think TL is head and shoulders above and I am not talking about how tall he is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jameis was really, really good his FR year.

Jun 22, 2020, 3:41 PM

His SO year gave us a glimpse of what he would be during his entire NFL stint though. He took way too many chances and thought he could make throws that just weren't there.

Fields is going to have much better throwing stats than Trevor for the simple fact that fields HAS to throw, trevor, on the other hand has ETN who will have his own unbelievable numbers and take a lot of pressure off of Trevor having to throw the ball almost every down!! Fields wishes he had that problem!!

Screen passes and using the center of the field will open up a lot of opportunities for our offense. For now, talk is cheap. You have to actually do it.

OSU isn't exactly hurting for RBs

They had Dobbins last year and have Trey Sermon transferring in from OU this year.
