They were dominated on the stat line.

Oct 23, 2022, 7:03 AM

If not for the fumble 6 the game isn’t even close. Schrader and the Cuse fans need to just own it and deal with it. They did play with a lot of heart but the better team won.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And I wonder if the cleat cut on DJ’s hand affected that…

Oct 23, 2022, 7:33 AM

…ball exchange that resulted in that fumble.

His hand may have been swollen or numb from that cut.
It looked nasty and about 3” in length.

But, no doubt, I think Clemson would have made it 14-7 at that point with momentum. The defensive strategy would also have been different than what happened after that 14 point swing.

Oct 23, 2022, 8:27 AM

We didn't punt until the second half, don't remember third or fourth qtr. If not for the turnovers, it wouldn't have been that close. As a team, it obviously hurts to drive and come up with nothing. Cuse offense didn't do much without the help of turnovers

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: And I wonder if the cleat cut on DJ’s hand affected that…

Oct 23, 2022, 11:09 AM

We didn’t punt because of a fumble and an interception. The fact we didn’t isn’t a testament to how well our offense was playing.

Re: And I wonder if the cleat cut on DJ’s hand affected that…

Oct 23, 2022, 12:01 PM

I often get thumbed down for being a realist, but that's really not true. Go back and look at the play-by-play. Here it is with a conservative estimate of score without the turnovers.

First drive - 71 yard touchdown - 7-7

Second Drive - 42 yard drive with a pick within the Syracuse 35 (that's at least 3 with no turnover) - 10-7 Clemson

Third Drive - 50 yard drive, fumbled on first and goal at Syracuse's 3 (that's a TD 9 times out of 10 with our redzone offense) - 17-7 Clemson

Fourth Drive - 32 yard drive, turned it over on downs at Syracuse's 32. We would have kicked it if we were up - 20-7 Clemson

Fifth Drive - 49 yard drive, FG from Syracuse 26 - 23-14 Clemson.

That was the first half. Every single drive got within Syracuse's 35. Turnovers limited Clemson to 10 points. Without them, Clemson likely would have been up 9 at the half. IF they matched the second half from yesterday, Clemson would have won 40-14.

That's a thumbs up from me. Our mistakes almost cost us the game. But although I wanted to stomp them, I'm proud of how our guys found a way to win

If they want to talk about penalties, the cuse OL was holding on multiple plays that were never called in the first half. Our DEs were fighting through bear hugs. You got calls, we got calls.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: They were dominated on the stat line.

Oct 23, 2022, 9:23 AM

Big missed PI in the end zone when the Syracuse defender not only face-guarded the receiver he also grabbed the face mask while doing it. That was a huge miss.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: They were dominated on the stat line.

Oct 23, 2022, 2:37 PM [ in reply to Re: They were dominated on the stat line. ]

If the Syracuse fans want to complain about the two hits the QB's took out of bounds and compare them, there was a clear difference.Just watch them side by side. The Clemson defender was engaged in tackling the QB in bounds and the tackle was a continuation of the tackle that started in bounds with an eligible runner. The Syracuse defender initiated contact with the Clemson QB after he was out of bounds. That's the difference.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: They were dominated on the stat line.

Agreed.... not to mention the Cuse qb was fighting to stay in bounds to get the pass off.

If you read the article, Shrader is actually complimentary of the Tigers. He just lost a tough game and he was right about the "no call" when he was pushed when he was out of bounds. Anyone who finds fault with his post game interview most likely hasn't played competitive sports and lost a tough game...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game"

Oct 23, 2022, 7:12 AM

He was pushed out but 2 seconds early his O line made a very blatant hold.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Trotter started contact well inside the field

of play and was directly behind that qb. It was merely a continuation of momentum. Good no call.

The flag against their guy, however, was a shoulder check from the side after CK had taken two steps out of bounds.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Klubnik was running out of bounds.

Oct 23, 2022, 12:23 PM

Shrader was an active runner looking to pass the ball and was inbounds when Trotter initially made contact.

Re: Klubnik was running out of bounds.

Oct 25, 2022, 12:56 PM

It was the extra shove after they were well out of bounds. Cade's hit was definately harder, but both should have been called. It's not a "Yeah, but" situation. Sure there were, and always are, other calls that were "missed", for both teams. We all know, if the Refs really wanted, they could throw a flag on just about every play.

Oct 23, 2022, 8:33 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game" ]

Ben Boulware had just played in the 2015 natty. I remember him talking about playing that game. Was very complimentary of bammer. One of the things that stuck out, to me, was he kept saying that he hated how they lost....they could have won that game. If they had been blown out, well, they weren't meant to win. But they weren't. It came down to just a couple plays. If not for those couple, the game might have gone our way. While I don't agree with him, shrader is hurt from such a "close" loss. He was very complimentary. We are the flagship of the conference...we now have the longest winning streak.

Oct 23, 2022, 9:47 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game" ]

He started being pushed or tackled about 10 yards of inbounds and the referee apparently saw that and thought it was not a late hit, roughing or hitting out of bounds. If you can’t see that then you are blind!

Oct 23, 2022, 11:36 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game" ]

I agree. Just reading the context of the quote, He gives credit to Clemson overcoming the turnovers and to our strong program but he’s regretful that his team couldn’t seal the deal when they could taste victory. He just exited the locker room so It sounds like he means something more like “we all know that we should have won” but in the sense of that they believe they had what it takes to win that game.

If he was only complaining about calls or something, I’d probably take it differently.

This headline is unfair to the Syracuse QB. It makes is sound as though he is claiming they were cheated out of the game. His comments actually blame themselves for the loss and compliment the Clemson program.

Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game"

Oct 23, 2022, 9:30 AM

Exactly correct. His statements were fine. The issue is the media. They asked him about the 2 calls on the QB hits. Just watched college football final and Galloway went off on that no call too. Funny they didn’t show the no call face mask PI in the end zone earlier in the game. The refs made terrible calls all day just happened a few in the second half went against Syracuse. ALL of them went against us in the first half. Syracuse had decided by halftime they could do whatever they wanted and it wouldn’t get called and the refs started calling it both ways in the second half and it blew their minds and their game plan.

Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game"

No respect for a coach that teaches his players to play dirty. The cleat to DJ’s hand and the facemask and jab at Shipley’s throat are just 2 instances of dirty play in this game. We can go back to every game with him as coach that we’ve played against them and see this kind of dirty play. It’s not just the players because it happened as far back as 2018 at least

of both carried them to the point their feet got tangled and the Cuse QB got the worst of the incident and ended up on the ground. Watch the film, slow it down and focus on the players' feet.

DJ gave Cuse 14 points so the Cuse offense only scored unassisted once. Had DJ not been off the score would have been a blowout.

Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game"

Oct 23, 2022, 8:30 AM

There’s no doubt, they could have won, but should have won, no. Look at the game stats. We won in every category except passing yards, where they were 10 yards better. If you look at the stats you might wonder why the score was so close. Until you factor in the turnovers. As for officiating, no one has mentioned the the PI no calls, including one in the end zone. And holding was a malignancy in their offensive backfield, but rarely called. I haven’t looked at replays of the “late hit,” but from where I sat, it looked to me like the hit began well in bounds and proceeded to go out of bounds. I’m just glad to know that we have a freshman QB who can come in and play as well as KK did. He seldom threw, and almost threw a pick 6, but did throw a bullet for a two point conversion. However, I do hope DJ is ok. I’ve finally gotten comfortable with him leading the offense. It was another heart stopping, nail biter, if you still have some nails to bite. Looking forward to the bye week so my heart and nails can recover some. Go Tigers.

Re: TNET: Syracuse QB: "Everybody knows that we should've won that game"

The only reason they should have won is be because we spotted them at least 10 points. The first interception was on the 15 yd line which would have been at least 3 points for us. Then the fumble 6 on the 3 yd line was another 10. Take those two plays out and it wasn’t even close.

Also, Cade got “bodied” out of the sideline and we just gave a slight push. Totally different “hits”.

I’m glad we could just overcome a -4 turnover ratio.

The statement is taken out of context and makes it sound like he is crying about things. The beginning of the statement was "The way our defense played." He is saying that him and the offense were at fault and taking the blame for the loss.

You can't take a lot out of him saying that he felt like the hit out of bounds was worse on his end. I know this will not be a popular opinion, but I felt like both should have been no calls. I think that the hit on Cade was worse, but he was right at the sidelines. I have never been a fan of that call unless the guy is clearly out of bounds. Defenders don't have the opportunity to look down and know exactly where the sideline is.

Is that you Jake Bentley?

Except 4 quarters of play matter

And the final score matters. So if you shouldn’t won, then you don’t throw a pick on your winning drive. Deal with it! Don’t cry about refs. Because most you did in the first half was because of holding calls missed. Stop making excuses ( which they are cuse, as excuses) and try to win out. You may get another chance.

Don't let the headline fool you people.

He's telling the truth and is nothing but complimentary of Clemson. Syracuse had every opportunity to win that game, but we didn't let them. This isn't the "sour grapes" article that the headline leads you to believe. Schrader is exactly what you want your QB to be.

I hear you, but he did say that... and he shouldn't have. No, EVERYBODY doesn't know that Syracuse should've won the game. The implication is surely something our guys have been trained to avoid with the press. It's not a class comment. Period.

Yeah but you had that little turnover right there at the end because the stage was too big for you little boy. You had 4 tos a gifted td and got shutout in the second half. Yet managed to lose by 6. Yeah you should have won but didn't because on our worst day we are still better than you #### Yankees!

Anybody smell or taste sour grapes ? Typical loser QB that leaves Death Valley with a big 'ole "L" stamped on his rear. Good luck. Try again next year. Buh Bye.

There was a lot more wrong in that second half for Syracuse than one call. And, no, everybody doesn't know that they should have won. They should have lost because 1. they did not utilize their best player, and 2. they committed too many penalties (which seems to be their forte).
