They are both liars, and they have lost sleep over not putting Cade in that game, they both know they're choice of not putting Cade in is the very reason we don't have 8 straight over the coot, and 41 straight home game wins. As long as they lie about not regretting making the biggest fumble of the season by not putting Cade in, how can we ever believe a word they say bc, there is no shame in admitting the truth, and I would bet anything they do regret it, and I would think that have discussed that fumble since that night!!!! With them saying they don't regret it, is saying they don't regret not winning 8 straight against the coots, and 41 straight home games!!!!

Absolutely they are liars and the worst of it is they think the fan base will buy that b.s. I've always been a Dabo homer, but not with this. His mismanagement of the QB position this year cost this team a legitimate trip to the playoff and we could have been competitive in the final 4 if Klubnik had been developed properly. According to Klubnik, he wasn't ever given any 1st team reps until ACCC game week! Dabo's had his head in the sand w DJ all season. It was only due to the swell of criticism after the USC loss that he finally gave Klubnik some of the reps.

There is obviously more to the story than they are letting on. Someone on the board yesterday said it had to do with promised nil money. The need to make a change in the sc game was so obvious and then when they made the change it made the sc game more questionable. Something about this is just not right and i dont thing we are being told the truth. Cade didnt become a star in 1 week!

NIL Money affecting the decision?
Dec 7, 2022, 11:43 AM

That's classic bulletin board material there! I think the coaches are capable of making a bad decision and that's what they kept doing. Probably bc of DJ's leadership in the locker room and their uncertainty of the rookie's ability. Nobody was more of a "bench DJer" than me, but I don't think DJ's Bojangles money was a factor for the coaches...

DABO AND STREETER knows they both F$%^ed up the Clemson record and now they cant defend themselves for thinking DJ was going to save them in that game. Anybody that was believing in DJU was living a dream.
Cade should have been put in as QB as early as game 6 and allowed to play, I think our record would have have been plus 1 and a possible #4 ranking in the CFP. enough said!!!

Must be something...want to s c rew up a locker room have one player getting lots of NIL money and can't throw a decent pass...wonder why they didn`t Play hard for DJ...they will all praise him leader and all...but inside they want to win and win big...players might take a little more time than some of the more astute fans but when they pulled DJ and put Cade the whole da*n team was energized from the right guard to the waterboys..Clemson is not used to a halfa**ed football team and thats kinda how we`ve been for two (count em) years! New day, real QB!

Yea, this is a pretty benign statement. Nothing to gain by publicly rolling on DJ at this point. In fact, it would be a bad look to “regret” former players.
Now, in private, I hope they are singing a different tune. You can’t learn from mistakes if you never feel like you made one in the first place.

I think the reason folks don't want to move on is that . .
Dec 7, 2022, 1:24 PM
|
|
they were told for so long they were wrong, and even disloyal or lacking perspective. They were chastised for talking about it, and now that the proof of the pudding showed them right, the folks that chastised them and tried to shut them up all along (the ones who were wrong)"just want to move on."
There's something beyond irritating - also offensive and dishonest about someone arguing with you vociferously, even belittling you for daring to make the critique, only to demand you "move on" once they lose the argument.

They should definitely have regrets. If not about not playing CK2, they should about throwing it 29 times against one of the worst run defenses in the country.

I get talking DJ up. But why do they keep talking CK down?
Dec 7, 2022, 7:21 AM

That game was the first time we’ve seen true Clemson football in two seasons. And Cade was clearly what sparked it. On both sides of the ball.
Now DJ is gone. Why not talk up Cade?
Sure, one game does not make a career, but how about be happy, no, THRILLED with the performance that led us to a championship game win?

After the game. I don’t think Dabo has spoken since he is on the recruiting trail right now.
I think it’s funny he made the change when he wouldn’t be available to the media all week after to have to field the barrage of questions.

He may be recruiting ..but he and Streeter are “hidin’” from the fans and media scrutiny. Probably the best he could have said given the circumstances. They still looked like buffoons to everyone. Streeter is just a blind parrot, wouldn’t expect anything different from him.

I haven’t seen it hat way at all. I saw MANY things wrong watching the qb play. The playcalling has been better under Streeter for sure. As we all saw Saturday night, Klub ran Streeter’s game plan to perfection. DJ couldn’t hit a wide open back on a flat route 15 feet away. Cade made all the layups. That’s all we need a QB to do. Hit the throws he is supposed to make easily. I was one of the first on the bench DJ train. Watching games in person showed DJ’s incompetence worse than TV could. Defenses were walking 7-8 into the box and leaving the receivers in single coverage. Okay after play we would run into the stacked box instead of calling a hot route and throwing a 50/50 ball. Receiver flashed open constantly and DJ would make wrong decision after wrong decision. Receivers got frustrated and stopped working hard to get open. Why? Because they knew DJ wouldn’t throw it. If he did, it was mostly uncatchable. Imagine where Randall and Williams would be with Klub throwing dimes all over the field. Two 1000 yard receivers with CK at the helm. This would open up running lanes for Shipley who would be pushing 1500+ yards by now with less touches. If CK started games two, we might have our first Heisman winner and would be the number one seed in CFP. Streeter was NOT the problem. If you weren’t excited watching the offense Saturday, I can’t help you. Being one of DJ’s largest detractors, I need to give him some praise as well. He’s one helluva kid. His character and leadership skills are second to none. I hope he goes somewhere and develops into the super Star he has the POTENTIAL to be. Good luck David James. Maybe try baseball?! Watch the playcalling against Tennessee. You will see the full playbook again. Klub will torch their secondary. Tennessee has a secondary on par with UNC. Streeter is NOT as bad as Elliot. The All-In Orange Bowl will be a volunteer beat down! Go Tigers!!

From a Yahoo Sports article about how Lincoln Riley develops Heisman quarterbacks:
Confidence is key.
Riley coaches by the mantra, "If your system is not a quarterback-friendly system, you need to find a new system." And that idea feeds directly into how he builds an offense around his quarterbacks.
The basics remain the same with the Riley Air Raid offense: high-tempo possessions, lots of plays and big shots downfield. But Riley doesn’t just want quarterbacks who can execute the offense. He also wants quarterbacks who walk out as “the most confident guy on the field every single time.”
———-
And what have the Tiguhs been missing for TWO YEARS? The “most confident guy on the field” taking the snap from the center.
But that is all behind us now. The Cade Era has begun. Go Tiguhs!

My biggest problem here is his saying "hindsight is 20/20." The entire college football world was shouting at him about the problems that reared their heads during that game. He's just put himself into an echo chamber and refused to listen.

Your Organizational Management mode is looking in the wrong direction for challenges to Dabo. The AD, CU Pres, and even the Board should challenge Dabo's decisions. Dabo's decisions have a profound effect on the amount of revenue coming into Clemson. Most of his decisions have led to a very good revenue stream, but his decision in one game this year is going to cost Clemson a bundle.
Hopefully not asked directly to you, but how many of you have heard the question "What have you done for me lately". Dabo has earned a lot of "good will" at Clemson, but it would go a long way if he admitted that he didn't give Cade enough preparation in practices, and enough meaningful snaps in games to get him ready to replace what turned out to be, at best, an average quarterback.

But they both **explicitly** said they had no regrets . . .
Dec 7, 2022, 2:04 PM
|
|
. . . on that particular point.
I think you're right that that phraseology **could** be legitimately interpreted either way if there were no other context. But in this case, they've both gone out of their way to explicitly say they don't regret the decisions in question.
Another point about the "hindsight is 20/20" bit . . . even if he was saying that about Klubnik, it wouldn't be enough to square w/ the full truth. To say hindsight is 20/20 isn't to say one was wrong - it's rather to say that in light of stuff they didn't or couldn't know ahead of time, they'd would have done it differently IF they'd known. It's a way of saying "sure, GIVEN the result, I'd WISH I'd done it different - but it's not something I could have known beforehand - but only in hindsight - so I wasn't wrong, I just regret the result." But this IS something one could seen (as many did) w/o the benefit of hindsight. So even if he was using that phrase about not playing Klub, it was a weaseling out of taking responsibility for a lack of foresight. To act like hindsight is the only way anyone could have known is absurd.

It would be one thing if it was just a bunch of radicals from Tnet questioning decisions the last couple of years. More and more experts and analysts are doing the same. If Dabo had said that he made a mistake, whether he believed it or not, then people would feel more comfortable going forward.
The rest of the season he could make an argument for how he handled the DJ/Cade situation. There is no argument for why you would stick with DJ in the South Carolina game. He wasn't ready to improve on 8 for 29 just isn't believable.
As one person said, Dabo has earned an awful lot of good will. Probably enough to make mistakes until he is old and gray, but not admitting to them will eat away at the good will quicker than the mistakes.

Not just Kirby Smart building a dynasty, but Shane Beamer, too. They not only have no qualms about using the Portal, they have the advantage of all that money from the SEC TV contract. It is a new day in the world of elite college football, and if you don’t believe it, just watch Coach Prime Time transform lowly Colorado into a candidate for the CFP in just a couple of years. How? By using the Portal the same way a baseball team goes from the outhouse to the penthouse by using free agency. Other college football coaches dance around the Portal and NIL issues, but Prime is in your face. For him, the Portal has a blower button and a vacuum button. He told the current Colorado players to enter the Portal so he could replace them with his Portal transfers, and his recruits. When he’s done, he’ll have Grumpy Nick quacking like the AFLAC duck.

Weak Florists is helping us any either. ACC is always going to be associated with, and denigrated (in our eyes, anyway) as, a “basketball” conference that pretends to care about football. And for as much as I hate everything about it, the SEC understands and dictates the college football landscape and will always be perceived as superior to all the other conferences. But with all the turmoil going on with CFP expansion, conference realignment, NIL, recruit/coach tampering, the transfer portal, and multiple signing days, perhaps a college football “Super League” (like the NFL, only semi-pro) will be created in the next few years, and we can lay aside this debate about conference affiliations. One can dream anyway. *sigh*

One of the greatest lessons my father ever taught me was “When you screw up, speak up.” Meaning that you tell everyone you made a mistake before people start asking what went wrong.
If you admit to an error in judgement, before everyone starts blaming you, you can flip the discussion toward solving the problem instead of who’s to blame. When you accept responsibility and say “I’m the one to blame.” It shuts down the non-constructive part of the conversation and moves it on to the solutions part of the conversation and we all get better.
How hard would it be for Dabo to say, “Yea, if I knew he was capable of going 20 for 24, I would have had him start the Carolina game? But I didn’t see it and I was wrong. Now I know he can and he’s our starter because I learned that he’s more capable than I imagined. Now let’s prepare for Tennessee.”

I'm with you LBB.
ND 1st Half for the Tigers
1st Drive - 4 plays, blocked punt, ND TD 2nd Drive - 7 plays, turnover on downs 3rd Drive - 3 plays, punt 4th Drive - 4 plays, punt 5th Drive - 5 plays, punt 6th Drive - 1 play, sack and end of half
Based on the offense's stellar first half performance, what would not indicate Cade should start the 2nd half rather than throw him to the wolves inside the Tiger's own 10?

watch the two QBs in practice EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. and still think DJU deserved to start every game OVER CK! I mean what are they even seeing out there?! They would have had to see that CK was instantly an upgrade over what we had, right? One can tell just from the way they move in the pocket/pocket presence, their footwork, accuracy (short, long, and on-the-move), their decision-making, passion/intensity, leadership, and basically everything one wants to see from a QB that was NOT present in our former QB and is OBVIOUS in our current starter. It has to be something other than that CK “was not ready”. It’s that the coaches didn’t WANT to see CK overtake DJ or something. What else could it be?!

ND destroyed our OL and our WRs aren't good enough.
T.Lawrence and D.Watson wouldn't have won that game.
In case you didn't remember, in our opening series there were TWO holding penalties on the first two plays (both being WR screens in which both had gained yards).
So in effect the 4 plays of the opening drive were actually 6 plays.
After the first two plays we were at 1st and 30.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Playing Cade in that game anymore than he was played would have ruined his confidence. His awful pik showed that he was not (yet, at that time) ready for prime time.

Yeah Bill,
Dabo claimed they gave the kid a chance to take over at ND - they gave him 2 plays - 2 freakin' plays. What kind of chance is that.
Also, why not play him some against Louisville and Miami. We had leads there - plenty enough to give the kid some reps with the first team.

Possiibly... don't forget though....Dabo wasn't fully invested in Cade and giving him best chance to succeed. He was hell-bent on continuing to prop up DJ until ACCC game week (after USC criticism) when for the FIRST time Cade got 1st team reps. I still can't believe how poorly this staff handled the QB situation this year and especially going into USC game. Writing already on the wall about DJ before then. That was the week Cade should have been working w 1st team and DJ yanked in 1st qtr. We would have won by 20. Maybe we'll get a tell all book in 10 years with all the answers.

not having regrets doesn't necessarily mean they're content w/ losing.. it just means that they still had faith that DJ, on a decent day, would still be able to beat the gamecocks. and, as ugly as it was, at no point, in the game, were we out of it. so.. they stuck w/ what they thought would give us the W. and, it nearly did.
but, for them to come right out and be like a fan and say stuff like: "yup.. we shoulda pulled DJ vs carolina".. or.. "dang, all this time we been playing this guy, while THIS guy was just sitting on the sidelines"... they can't say those things. they have to maintain, not only, that they have faith in their decisions.. but, that they also have faith in their players.
we're talking RELATIONSHIPS, here, guys.. they can't just react to a situation like we can and do. we only care about winning.. and, those coaches have to care about SO much more that will build the foundation of a program that is so solid that "winning" just becomes part of the culture.
the coaches know that "yes, if we'd put cade in vs sc, we'd probably won it".. but, they don't KNOW that.. they don't KNOW that cade wouldn't have had a notre dame moment. we don't KNOW that cade woulda preformed like he did vs UNC. so, why speculate?
when our program is in the 90%+ of winning, i'd rather the coaches stick to their stubborn ways of assurance of their decisions and loyalty, than to second guess their selves anytime something doesn't go their way.
dabo is dabo.. he's not perfect.. but, he is great. he's brought us to a level none of us ever thought possible, back in the day. let's cut him a lil slack, here. dang.

Feel better now? As bad as losing to the coots is, it is ridiculous to mention that in the same sentence with any of those incidents except the guy not signing the Beatles. But nice grandstanding.
Dabo is playing the long game here. One loss might be your Titanic or Hindenburg, but I doubt Dabo will let it define him.

Here's my frustration about how it all went down. *begin rant*
Flash back to the Syracuse game when DJ was bad DJ and Cade comes in. Does he light up the airways? No, but he put a spark in the offense that was missing to that point in the game. Speed of play and execution increased and not only did he account for 17 points, but we didn't turn the ball over any more. Now, file that away.
Next week at ND and ineffective DJ is in the game. But so was "bad everybody" and we never really had a chance in that game. Punt block? Pick 6? We got out-prepared and out-played and out-coached in that game. Cade was trotted out for one series and tried to be a hero but the ol "MO" was against us.
Louisville and Miami games, DJ looked a bit better, but seemed to me like the scheme was around getting his feet moving, which any defensive coach can scheme against, and the USuCk coaches did just that as a mid-game adjustment. Regardless, that game was ONLY a 1 point loss, which is why myself and so many people are asking "why" and "why not" on the DJ/Cade situation.
A good OC takes what worked for Cade in the Syracuse game and sets it up as a package in whatever game he goes back in. Dang shame our OC figured that fact out 1 week too late.
I love what Dabo has done for the program, but these Dabo snarky responses and sound bytes are getting really old. He needs to limit media access to the assistants and handle all the hard questions himself.
*end rant*

I disagree. Uiagalelei played fairly well except for Syracuse and Notre Dame. Then he was fairly good against Louisville and Miami. We led most of the South Carolina game. It's not unreasonable for the coaches to feel like they could win that game with Uiagalelei.

We could've won plenty of games with Kelly Bryant (he took us to the title game the year before) but Trevor gave us the best chance to win so TL became the starter. Why doesn't that same logic apply this year ?

Feels pointless to keep asking this. Clearly the coaches are not going to say anything else publicly, and, frankly, it doesn’t matter that much because we can’t change the past. Start the revenge tour with Cade & Co. Beat the Vols and then let the coaches make all the brutal evaluations of themselves going into spring.

I don't believe there aren't some regrets for not putting in Cade against the chickens. It took only 6 plays for them to put in Cade in the ACC championship game. That tells you something right there. The previous week against the chickens was one of the worst QB performances DJ has ever had. Regardless of the other problems (fumbles, blown coverage, etc.) we only needed just a field goal somewhere in the game to win that game. I think Cade could have gotten us that opportunity if he was in there for a couple of drives. Don't forget the fact that when making it to the playoffs Dabo also gets a nice bonus. I believe we would be in the playoffs had we beaten the chickens as a one loss conference champ.

He has regrets. Cade may have or may not have won the USC game. I believe he would have due to his speed. He speeds up the offense, something DJ could not do. Even Mack Brown said in his press conference Saturday "they knew how to stop DJ but they did not practice for Cade and did not know how to stop him". Cade is the real deal and maybe Dabo finally opened his eyes up and sees it. It is just sad it took this long. Again, I ask this question, Did you really want to go to he playoffs this year with this team to get smashed by Georgia or do you want to give Cade experience and prepare for next year with him as the starter? I promise you, Dabo would have probably started DJ in the playoffs.

Delusional ....as we expected. When you see something and are denying what you have seen... it is either pride or ignorance. Even the Gamecock fans I know are thanking me for Dabo not playing Klubnik. I love Dabo...just not understanding his real thought process about playing DJU the entire USC/Clemson game.Go Tigers!

The whining here is just incredible. Once again, I'd be more than happy to take Dabo off your hands. I can't imagine what he could do with our money and recruiting base. South Carolina has a handful of recruits a year, we have hundreds and then he has Florida and Georgia connections. Maybe you'd be better off with another Bowden cheater as your coach if you are so unhappy with Dabo. The crying on this site is just mind blowing.

Just to add one thing - Dabo is right, DJ did NOT lose the game BUT neither did he WIN IT! IMO - the change should been made in the open date after Syracuse. The writing was on the wall for all to see and by the USC game and start of the UNC game DJ had already entered the Portal in his mind and it showed. Would the change have made a difference at ND or USC? I have no idea but just saying....

I cannot, for the life of me, understand how all of these people talking about Dabo's loyalty do not see that he betrayed every other player on the team (especially Klubnick) by not playing the best QB and giving the team their best chance to win.

So here are the words I hear on Tigernet about our coaches: liars, hubris, Incompetent, NIL money a factor, a deal with Big Dave, no regrets (actually they had regrets just not specifically about DJU), Dabo's ego, downgrade in quality, don't recognize talent, a cover-up, delusional, etc. I hope you realize we are at the pinnacle of Clemson football over the last 11 years but many believe from what I read feel we should probably get rid of this bunch. Did Todd Ellis help you write your comments?

It’s very obvious reading between the lines. He mentions Klubnik practiced great and transferred that to the game. DJ thrived in practice but under pressure in the game couldn’t translate. DJ played in his head in the big games. The difference in average player and great player is a thin line between practice field and game field. Just my 2 cents.

For 11 Million dollars a year---it shows time for a change of coaches if that is what he really thinks. Something was wrong a Dabo has lost all my respect. Time to go in a new direction. REMEMBER all of about losses were from outside the ACC. We could only beat the popcorn ACC teams this year.

Heck, he should’ve started every game after Syracuse! You don’t think for even a second the confidence boost our team (on both sides of the ball!) would have been given by having him under center (or shotgun)??
IMHO, Dabo has never handled QB transitions well throughout his tenure. Glad he FINALLY played Klub but man, to think of what might have been this season, I sure have regrets.

There has to be something else going on here. Dabo's proven his football intelligence to be better than this. We're all scratching our heads, so I'm convinced there's something we're not being told and they're just covering for it. It's the only logical explanation to such strange behavior and lines of BS coming from all the coaches.
Some are saying Streeter's play calling isn't that bad because when Cade ran his plays, they worked. This is true. However, the abandonment of the 2nd half running game against USC counters that argument. Even with DJ in, if we'd ran the ball in the 2nd half we would have won. That's a simple fact that illustrates Streeter's ineptitude. Hiring, or promoting him, was a mistake.

Everyone on this board is familiar with Dabo's philosophy, for better or for worse. Dabo will not now or ever throw DJ under the bus or otherwise burn him, full stop. And he won't let Streeter do it either. We can all hope that Dabo's private thoughts and conversations are different and that he recognizes that the SC game was a huge missed opportunity, but regardless he's not going to talk badly about DJ as he leaves the program.

Lying is too strong ...
Dec 7, 2022, 1:39 PM
|
|
Because coaches always spin ... Dabo more than others.
But Dabo has truly lost some credibility with a portion of the fan base. My take is Tiger upperclassmen leaders on the team advised Dabo to stick with DJ. They, like Dabo and Streeter went the easy route supporting their well-mannered good guy friend, not the better player (and also a good guy) who would help Clemson win.
There may be some truth to DJ receiving a NIL bonus/larger NIL bonus for starting all the games -- we may never know the truth.
Now we move on and play Tennessee with Cade Klubnik and a small reservoir of doubt about Dabo and a large reservoir of doubt about Streeter who followed Dabo's marching orders. These doubts will lessen with wins Cade Klubnik and the 2023 team will achieve.

Dabo's a lot better person and much smarter than his mostly sh!t for brains fan base that's commenting here. He's saying the right things because he's not going to throw his own under the bus like you nit wits would which would cost him later on in recruiting and in other areas. Don't be a moron, of course he's going to say this and, of course, he regrets not playing Klubnik who is now officially ready for the task. He wasn't ready earlier in the year, but you morons wanted him starting first game. Also, UNC's defense is one of the worst in the country and of course Klubnik looked good against them. DJ's gone, but Dabo's not going to treat him like trash like you people have.
Get brain surgery.

Figured I’d translate it.
Play Cade more and earlier against ND (not just 2 plays at our own 6 late in game) and every game after, we probably don’t lose to SCAR at the very least.
How can they not regret that? I call BS.

Sounds to me like loyalty just got in the way. I just hope that mistake will be learned from. Had we won that game by putting in the better QB we probably would have been a one loss team with a conference championship and would have been placed in the playoffs ahead of OS. That's hard to think about.
