Dabo seems outrageously excited about Zaire Patterson. He almost couldn't contain himself.

Lol who do we need from the portal? Let's get some names thrown out there with legitimacy. When we start passing up legitimate guys on the portal bring that up. Not just the portal in general. Alot of guys are in there for a reason.. The 1st one is they couldn't win a starting position.
Spin it Dabo!! Go Tigers!!!

Except they’ve talked about moving him from the very beginning and why wouldn’t you want Woods coming off the edge. Just like yall claim Dabo doesn’t want to use the portal yall want him to bring in Joe Schmo off of the street just to do it.

I certainly hope none of our highly paid coaches are wasting time reading ANYBODYS posts on Tigernet, unless it is for pure comic relief!

So, does this mean we have not depth at DE?

Woods and Parker will make one of the best DE duos in the country, IMO
Hoffler has huge upside Denhoff has a lot of experience Patterson has potential Lawson has pass rushing ability Story was a 4 star recruit in year 3 Kissayi likely redshirts to fill out his frame Mayo has potential to crack the rotation
Hoffler and Denhoff can play winning football for us. After those 2, it's a bunch of unknowns. I believe Story has a chance to crack the 2 deep (over Denhoff). Mayo could develop late like Hoffler did and start seeing playing time by the end of the season.

The obvious reason is because Clemson has regressed since the portal came into existence. We are the only program that has not utilized it.
So I understand fans always asking for portal players. But it does have to make sense, which a lot of fans lose sight of. OL made sense and the coaches tried pursuing a few guys. WR and CB made sense to me, but the coaches disagreed. They are relying on the development of guys like Randall, Stellato, Avieon, and Lewis. We'll see if they were right.

Nobody now. But there were plenty of options when the portal initially opened.

Are you willing to PAY a CB orvWR $500k to $1m bucks a year to play for us. That’s what Portal stars are asking for.
Call me old fashioned, but to me that’s tooooo high and you don’t know if they will mesh. Texas A&M tried it, how did that work out???

Actually, I wanted Dabo to go after Tyler Baron as a one year player to give us depth and experience on the edge. I think if Dabo wanted to, he could have talked him into playing for Rumph. We really wanted the kid in 2020 but if I remember, we couldn't have him on campus or something like that.
There was also that kid from ga who went to AZ State cause it was his only p5 offer. But he developed well and made himself a 4* rated transfer. So it's not like we didn't have options. But as always, an excuse would have been made as to why not.
And of course Dabo sold you and everyone else that cross training every olineman we had in order to get the 5 best was the best thing since sliced bread. How'd that turn out?

I would argue that our talent level has also declined (especially at QB, WR, and OL), which could have been helped with portal acquisitions. It's no secret that the 2018, 2019, and 2020 recruiting classes turned out to be bad. It's been discussed a lot on here. Talent matters.
DJ and Cade aren't Deshaun and Trevor. We used to be WRU, now our WRs are a liability. Shipley and Mafah are good, but they're not Etienne. Our OL was never great, but it's worse now. Our DL has remained good, but it's not elite like the Power Rangers were. Our DBs have not been as good either.
I believe that having better players at those positions the last 3 years would led to better records. We're talking about 3-4 portal acquisitions that would have almost certainly put us in the playoffs.
I will accept that Riley is an upgrade from Streeter/Elliot. Luke is an upgrade from Austin. Rumph is an upgrade from Hall. We will see if they are enough to make up for the loss in talent. It does appear that the 2021, 2022, and 2023 classes are much improved from the previous 3 classes. So the roster is getting better.

It’s really easy to say our guys are not as talented as DW4, TL, ETN, Mike Williams, Tee, etc., and the Power Rangers. Please name guys who were in the portal this year that were as good as that group. If you can’t then why would using the portal help in that comparison?

The point isnt that those types of players are in the portal.

The point is that we aren’t as talented at key position groups and the portal could’ve helped address those deficiencies.

Play your best 11 on the field alway no matter what position they played before. As long as you get the highest results it’s a no brained.

Woods and Parker are going to be elite this year.
Hoffler is the X-factor, IMO. He has high end pass rushing ability. I think he can really surprise people this year. He's the name to watch at DE.

Figured they would go this route, drop alil weight and get back to where he was. Most of us was predicting this move with the amount of depth at DT and the lack of at DE

Coaches went with a far inferior option when starting Mascoll. Woods also outplayed XT.
