Yes, yes he is. you rarely see an underclassmen walk away. But every year, as soon as a recruit picks another school, the experts trot out and post the excuse that "we backed off" said recruit.

When you understand that college is about education, not football, basketball or whatever sport you play, you are a person of character and intelligence. That is Dabo and that is the player he recruits. Success is more than a won loss record.

I don't disagree with you. Dabo does an exceptional job and has built the best program in the country. That said, if the (big) wins and championships stop coming the narrative will change. For 8.3 million a year Dabo will be reminded that in the end, for that kind of money, it's about winning big. By all accounts Mark Richt was a man of great character who cared for his players. He learned that for ("only") 4 million a year, you also gotta win.

Not disagreeing with you, but even with Richt at Georgia, Georgia was one of the finalist for the Fulmer cup every year.
They over-recruited and ran off players just like every other SEC program.
and everyone here thinks Ga has a bag man and is paying players.
It's not the recruiting classes that never pan out. It's getting 2 5 star recruits at running back when there are already several 5 star recruits on the roster.
No one is walking into that situation with other "reasons."

I totally disagree, Dabo would leave if he was ever told that he can't run the program that he has built, the same way as he built it. He has made so much money doing things his way, the right way, that he can afford to walk away the very day that he feels that is being micro managed by the powers above him. And if he does walk away, there is other schools that would be glad to have him, and feel lucky that they were able to get him, bc his way has worked at Clemson, and it would work at much bigger FB schools than Clemson!!!!
I believe that if, and when DRAD was to leave Clemson, who ever was hired to take his place, they would be hired with the understanding that they can NOT fire Dabo Swinney, that only the board of trustee's can do that, and they will never happen unless Dabo fell out of touch with reality!!!

Mark Richt being a man of good character is pretty much where the comparison between he and Dabo ends. Richt did exactly what Dabo was talking about - he recruited based on talent alone and many of his players did not share his good character. Lots of off field problems and also on field junk that Dabo would not tolerate. Remember when UGA players decided to meet the Tigers running down the hill? That wouldn’t fly with Dabo. Those guys would be benched regardless of who they were. The football culture at UGA under Richt and the football culture at Clemson are polar opposites.
And if the time comes that the administration puts pressure on Dabo to run his program differently that is when we will lose him. He won’t compromise his values.

The point about Richt was that despite his character and care for his players, which i think even the most ardent UGA haters would concede, in the end it is about winning. Its great what Dabo has been able to do, but he's paid over 8 mil a year to win. Let things fall to 8-4 for a couple of years and see how quickly the Clemson faithful are screaming for change. The high moral ground of recruiting will fade.

Dabo has accomplished far more at Clemson than what Richt did at UGA. He has a vault full of cred built up that Richt could only dream of.
Sure, it's all about winning. Dabo has been to 6 consecutive CFPs and closed the sale twice. Just with that, he's done enough winning to cover several more years. Not saying he can live off the past forever, but you get what I mean.
I liked Mark Richt and wanted him to do well at UGA. He did seem to care about his players. But he wasn't anything close to Dabo when it comes to leading a program, setting a tone and creating a culture.
Clemson fans appreciate what Dabo has accomplished and as long as he runs a clean program that people respect, he will have several years of rope to run with before it gets tight.

I listened to the Cowherd interview and agree we are very lucky.
I will say that I don't think the system is that replicable and I'm curious to see if any of his assistants have success trying to run similar programs at other schools.
It does eventually come down to wins and it's hard to attract top talent without doing the things other schools do (taking chances on questionable character players and overrecruiting and running off players who can't contribute).

Particularly with Dabo still coaching and Clemson still winning. Can you imagine trying to recruit high character kids against him when they could go to Clemson, play for these coaches and pretty much be a lock for the playoffs?
You had better be a long way away and focus on recruiting kids that want to stay close to home.

Nothing new here. This is Dabo's story. It is also now OUR story. I'd guess most all of us know the story by heart. I know I do.
But I never get tired of hearing it again.

Curious to know the other 2 teams with the least offers. I feel like Stanford is one of the two, due to academic standards and thinking whichever school is also listed, is due to a similar circumstance.
