Now mixed squads with receivers out is not a good recipe for success on offense, but 17-36 with an int seems like the same DJ we saw last year. Hoping what the coaches are saying about practice accuracy starts to translate to the games.

DJ starts, and Cade comes in on the third series in each game unless we are rolling on the first two. Just like the KB & TL or DW & Cole situations….. DJ will have more 3 and outs than Cade, due to decision making and running for first downs. Cade will be the starter by mid season.
I’m pulling for DJ, and I want to see him have a great season, but I don’t see it on the field yet…. What happened to 2020 DJ? MIA…….

Dabo is our coach and has taken us on a great ride that is not over. None of you are coaches on the level of Dabo's little finger so if you don't trust him go somewhere else. End of story until August.

The spring game is for coaches but also it gives fans

a chance to see where we are at. We don't have the perspective or experiences of coaches. As fans, we see with the tools we have. With those tools, DJ was a bit disappointing based on our expectations versus what we saw in the spring game. The receiver corp was found lacking. Play calls favored longer routes for DJ than Cade. The biggest thing we want to see with DJ is judgement and to not missing easy throws. As many, I saw glimpses of last year which was disappointing. I saw Cade make some good throws and some ill advised throws which could have been easy picks., I want DJ to succeed as much as the next guy, He has the physical skills. So it's not about trusting coaches, it was about we saw. For me, I wish he had done better. For now, it's a wait and see game

Valley Boy
No one is dismissing Dabo's ability or authority to make a decision at QB. He can and will. And just like in 2018 with TL16, Dabo will name CK2 the starter.
Coach wants CK2 to earn it, and like TL16, Dabo expects he will and as soon as this summer. Out of respect for DJ's veteran status, we know Dabo will wait and pull the trigger when it suits him and is best for the team.
CK is not DW4 or TL16. At least not yet. But the "great ride", as you call it, will commence when CK2 takes over as QB.

LMAO at Dabo's comment of DJ being the starter. There should be a pole asking if anyone was shocked by the comment, just check yes or no. My vote is no, I would have been seriously shocked if he would've said anything other than DJ is still the starter. I would've actually felt that we had lost Dabo, if he said anything different!!!

I agree and I don’t believe it really matters which qb is in prior to this game. We can go 4-0 on defense and run game alone.

DJ had a bad year, and everyone knows it, including DJ. It looks to me as though he has taken the steps to be much better. A year ago, we were thinking he would make us forget Lawrence and Watson. Dabo is saying the right things to help his QB regain his confidence. I suspect the two will split time, and perhaps Hunter Johnson will get in as well. If DJ struggles as he did last year, Klubnik will be able to distinguish himself and start. Injuries are so prevalent that having two QB's running the show early in the year is an asset, not a drawback.

But anyone paying attention saw he had a lot of flaws in his game.
It also looks like he may be one of those guys that does better coming off the bench. The NFL is full of brilliant quarterbacks when they come off the bench. But they suck when they are the starter because they simply can’t handle the pressure and expectations.

So, Christian Wilken's record as a coach is still perfect. 0-5?

I’m not sure it was 10 times better but he looked better. Case definitely had some questionable throws but the we not being able to run/scramble due to the touch rule really handicapped Cade IMO.
I think it’s going to be another long year with most games coming down to the last possession.

Of course he's going to say that. DJ will be gone the week its announced he isn't the starter and there's no need to open up that can of worms until you have to.

"He's not done anything to not be the starter." Odd wording.

The double-negative seems far from simply saying that DJ has proven himself to be the starter at this point.
Has Klubnik not done anything to not be the starter?
The coaches usually preach about how there's open competition and nobody has earned a starting position until it's announced pre-game. It seems odd that Dabo kinda said that DJ is the starter. Kinda. I think they're worried that if DJ sees any writing on the wall, he'll hit the portal instantly.
I don't think it's a coincidence that they gave DJ's Orange team the only scholarship RB (Mafah, a very good RB who is good at pass pro) and the best WR (Ngata). (Dacari was behind Ngata on the depth chart before Ngata was injured.) I don't think they wanted Klubnik far-outperforming DJ, possibly leading to DJ losing confidence and/or transferring.
Interestingly, Klubnik (with a walk-on RB) still outperformed DJ.
