Swinney thankful for the patience of Terry Don Phillips
The current landscape around college football doesn’t allow coaches the time to build a program, as a win-now mentality creates turnover in the college coaching ranks. Dabo Swinney doesn’t know if he would have survived in the SEC, or if he would survived any other athletic director than Terry Don Phillips. Full Story » |

I really think the main takeaway from this article is that encouragement & hope are two of the greatest motivators to success.... Terry Don was a master of that and he recognized the same characteristics in Dabo!

That is correct, but anybody can go back and look at what Dabo has done since before he graduated HS. He has done a great job at managing his life all through college, and with any employment that he's had in the private sector. He's was a good position coach at Bama, and that is why Tommy Bowden called him, and ask him to come and coach receivers at Clemson. What ever Dabo has applied himself to, he has done a great job with it, and that is bc he's all in with any challenge he faces, he attacks it without cutting corners. Dabo would have had great success in anything he choses to do, bc that is the way that he is wired!!!!!

Terry Don saw a winner with real coaching talent, and stuck with him! Dabo looks for players with real heart and talent to be successful. That’s why he recruits the right players, and sticks with them. All In! Beat Georgia!

Absolutely awesome! Thank God for Terry Don Phillips and for Dabo Swinney. Patience almost always beats impulsiveness. I can think of many rash decisions that set programs and teams back for years. I've seen it happen in business too. In many walks of life. Because of their approach, I think the Tigers will win more Nattys. GoooooooTigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No doubt Terry Don Phillips saw something in Dabo that he believed in. And he was right. Fortunately, TDP stuck to his guns despite criticism. Dabo appreciates him and gives him his due credit every chance he gets. I loved that Dabo said from the National Championship stage, “I wouldn’t be here without you, brother.”

I am repeating what has already been said but without Terry Don’s courage to hire Dabo in the first place and then to stick with him the landscape at Clemson would be much different.
