I'll give them an A-. Can't ignore the "bust plays."
For Special Teams, will somebody please enroll Potter in a hypnosis program to convince him that he can make fieldgoals?

I hope we don't have to kick a FG to win the Natty.

“A” for effort, but, “B” for results. Because in actuality ...

[ in reply to Re: I’m Giving the defense an A ] |
|
... in actuality, Dobbins dropped two balls that would have been TDS.
Just proves once again that players have to execute at the highest level in a game like that.
Dobbins not being able to catch the ball was a break for us.
... and ...
Our DBs not being able to hang onto pick-6 interceptions was a break for the Buckeyes.
It evened out.
We did what we had to against a powerful OSU offense, but there were some big lapses and mistakes.

Well stated ! Our defense gave up some big plays but stiffened in the red zone . We won't be so fortunate with LSU . I watched their games against Texas, Florida, Auburn and Georgia and they never quit coming at you . We have to contain Burrow in the pocket and our DL have to get their HANDS UP if they can't get to him .

We did hold them to an amazing low score. Crazy how that all worked out even though OSU put up over 500 yards on us.

Wasn't almost half of the yards in the first quarter. Once we adjusted to them catching us with our pants down on quick plays (partly by just stopping them on the first set of downs) we held them to very little in the way of yards and points.

If giving up over 500 yards is your "A" game, youre in trouble

We held them in the red zone, I get it, but o-4-i-o moved the ball far too easily for that to be considered our A game.

Our defense brought it's A game. OSU's offense brought their A game.
Our defense ended up with B results - 500 yards and their offense ended up with C results - 23 points.
That's how great games work

Great point. Plus we scored 29 points against the second best defense in college football. That is why we will beat LSU. No talking head is mentioning those points. OSU got a lot of yards but only 23 points. That’s huge and going to be the reason we repeat as champions.

play calling was pretty questionable imo. Clemson went against its identity and what they had success with all season. Namely not running Etienne through the middle and the lack of post routes about 10 yards downfield

We adjusted because OSU was stopping our base offense
Jan 2, 2020, 7:00 PM

OSU pretty much locked up our receivers and stopped ETN in the interior, hence more QB runs and dump offs to ETN. We didnt change just for kicks and giggles. The adjustments were masterful and obviously the reason we won.
By the way, what in sam hill is a 10 yard post route?? Maybe you meant slant patterns? If that's what you meant, then they arent a staple of our offense and never have been under this playcalling group.
You seem to say so.e weird stuff. Are you a gamecock fan?

I don't think they really locked our WRs down as much as they got lucky both got injured early. Higgins went out on the first drive and Ross went in and out with a stinger on the 3rd drive. That allowed them to play Clemson very differently at that point. Keep in mind the first 6 plays by Clemson were
Etienne run for 8yds Higgins catch for 21yds TL run for no gain TL incomplete (OSU offsides) (Higgins hurt) Overton catch for 3yds TL run for 3yds
OSU did a lot of collar grabbing...and got away with most of them.
Go to about 8min50sec in the 1st...Overton was grabbed preventing a 1st down and we settled for a FG.
Remember the announcers praising a pass break up by Okudah then acknowledging during the slow motion replay he got away with grabbing the jersey?
3rd down right before the roughing the kicker penalty Amari was getting held by his collar and even motioned that to the refs.
It's a few more...but that's why I lol when OSU bring up the refs bc they let them get away with a lot off calls ...esp hitting Trevor late.

That's good stuff. OSU came to play bully ball and could not sustain it. Their "violence" obvi ously became a liability for them. The Tigers have matched that type of play with intelligence and grit for a while now. Love how we "set up" that last scoring play throughout the game. We got great coaches and gritty players!

Field, but especially holding our wr’s. Then late in the game they called holding on Kendrick for a real small grab that was much less than they had been getting away with.
Sounds got no grounds for complaint.

I would give the defense an A- Thought they had one bad play for the long td run but held up great overall. This is not bc or South Carolina. This is an elite team with multiple nfl players on both sides of the ball. I think that is the best offensive line we played all year as well.
Offense gets a B- I was tempted to give them a C+ but that last drive was worth a bump up in my mind. I was also very impressed by Okaduh and Landers on their defense so when you play against the best you aren’t going to score on every possession.
Special teams gets a B+ Missed a field goal that we really needed and the punting was good but most of this talk about it being great is because we are just so used to 39 yard punts that are consistently below average. What he did punting was what I would expect from any elite program. Don’t understand why I am supposed to shower him with praise for one game of solid punting. Solid gets you a B or B+ in my mind.
I am also pretty happy we won a game where we didn’t have one area get us an A+ game. Just think if the offense or defense played an A+ game. We would win by at least 10 points and probably by 3 scores if the offense is an A+.
We have come so far under Dabo and think back to the Bowden or even worse tommy west days where I would just about pray just to get a win over Maryland or Wake Forest. What a great time to be a Tiger!

Remember that Ohi0-4 State not only had the #1 offense, but they also sported the #3 defense. I'll give the defense an A- and the offense a B+. Very proud of them both. And I thought the TD saving tackle by Muse was just as important as the Hunter Renfrow tackle against Alabama after the turnover. These plays often get overlooked.

That Tanner play was awesome, and the most shocking thing about that play was, how did Tanner not trip up over K'Von Wallace with him sliding on the ground right in front of Tanner when he dove for Dobbin's feet when he tried to stop him, Tanner never lost stride with K'Von on the ground right in front of him!!!

There were so many plays that showed the heart of a champion. What a great game; two great teams going at it. We made the plays that made the difference...like we have done in other games the past five years. Very proud of our coaches and players. Refuse to lose. GO TIGERS!

I think the defense gets an A because Ohio State was by every standard, the best offense we have played this year. Now another great effort validates the win because sadly at least half the nation will only remember the calls by the officials if LSU wins.

go for a 2-pt conversion after taking the lead in the 4th? They wanted to trust their D in making stops to close out the game, but also think they didn’t respect our fg unit. Really hoping BT can zone in for the last game this season. We’ve seen him crush some fgs this season, so know he has it in him but for whatever reason his consistency has been off. As was the case in the fiesta bowl and most certainly will be in the natty, if either teams settles for fgs that won’t get the job done. BT will probably get a shot at some point to help his team. Here’s to him coming through!!!

Yep, we have seen him CRUSH some field goals this past season, but he has had more Head scratching field goal moments than crushing moments this season also
