Well said. The defense had no let down from coach V. They responded after the terrible interception in the 3rd qtr. they responded after the horrible offensive possession with 4:42 left in the game. The DEFENSE won the game again with a pick 6.

Our offense looked terrible. I know ISU has a good defense but we practice against one of the best every dag gum day. I’m very concerned about the offense going into next year. This game gave all Tiger fans nothing positive to cling to during the off season

Our whole offense today was game management and rely on the punter for field position. We didn't call one play where DJ throws downfield. That should tell you pretty much what the coaches think of him.

That the 3-3-5 defense prevents success for long passes because of the additional safety?

It's like fans don't even WANT to understand the game.

THIS IS COLLEGE. I'm guessing if Furman ran the 3-3-5 we would also not take any chances? How much clearer does the game have to be to show you the coaches have zero confidence in DJ?

I am encouraged with what I saw from a coaching stand point. It seemed like a different perspective with the play calling. As people have already mentioned the QB issue, I have to say, in my opinion, DJ plays like a robot that has glitches. He seems to have no feel for the game. He cannot improvise, he doesn't seem to be able to sense pressure from the rush. He doesn't seem to know when to hand it off and when to keep it and run. He doesn't know when to throw it and when to hold it. I think the offense next year will mainly depend on the QB. If the Tigers have a QB that can play, they will do well. If they don't, it will just be more of the same.

Iowa State was only giving up 310 yards per game so against a Top 10 defense, our 315 was pretty good. Better offensive line and receiver play is a must for next year if we are going to win the conference again.

Might help also if we had a QB who can throw more TDs than INTs.

And Streeter felt like an Elliott carbon copy. Clammed up in the red zone and became predictable. And the 3rd and 8 call in the 4th quarter with 5 or 6 min on the clock - good god man!

Defense A+

Offense D+ (+ for the win)

Coaching changes were generally invisible -- looked like the same Clemson level of effort and play, good and bad, as regular season.

Agree, which is good news on the defensive side but not too encouraging on the offensive side...

Now face a last minute recruiting push. We have a lot of spots to fill and limited number of players left to fill them whether it be recruiting the 2022 class or the portal.

Clemson defense is CFB caliber and Clemson offense is not CFB caliber. Dabo must straighten out the QB play next season in order to win the ACC and go to CFP again.

stop methodically telegraphing every handoff, pitch, and pass would help alot on offense. Better OL play and development would also be helpful and that may be coming if Caldwell is retiring. Great recruiter but not so much in OL development.

Thankful and happy with a win!

However, I’m not sure any of the questions have really been answered. A win sure helps quite things down some though! Let’s be real though. Our defense had a whole season of Brent Venables. They weren’t suddenly going to lose that ability/everything they learned from him. Just like our offense wasn’t going to magically change and be better since Brandon Streeter just took over. You can’t have it both ways. (Saying Wes did a good job and Brandon didn’t change the offense). Both had 3 weeks. Mostly the team is what it is.

Both the coordinators (At least from my perspective) will be judged going forward. Not on tonight’s game.

Can we still recruit at a high level? Will we increase our recruiting classes? How will we fair with the transfer portal? How will play calling and the new coordinator’s actually be once they begin to bring in their own personnel and have a whole spring and summer and fall. All questions that will not be answered until we spot the ball next fall! Can we maintain this new energy and enthusiasm and I would even say chip on our shoulder or will we still be stale and probably should have sought some new blood and a new perspective. I don’t know. A year or two will let us know!

Here’s to great things ahead, Tigers!

Go Tigers!!!

If the truth was told, the offense that played tonight could win a lot of games with a DW4 or Trevor Lawrence type of QB, and yes, I actually believe that!!!!

Huh? DJ inherited WRU and ended the year with 9 TDs and 10 INTs. What’s not to love?!?

Sadly, this year's Clemson team was NOT WRU. Not even close...

Why would the WR room need to be rebuilt?***

Re: Why would the WR room need to be rebuilt?***

Dec 30, 2021, 9:10 AM

Because we're losing Ladson, Ross, Ajou, Swinney and Brown, a lot of the guys left have barely played and/or are often hurt, and the 2nd string is almost as important as the 1st for us with how much we rotate?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Okay…but what does that have to do with the room?***

Great guty win - pass offense needs lots of work - may be pick up key needs in portal - still in rebuild to be a play off contender.

I have a problem with Dabo's new policy of promoting coaches from within--- present coaches/former Clemson players.
To me, that says that Dabo believes his program is excellent/only needs to maintain its output.
Dabo's best coach hires during his tenure were Venables and Chad Morris--- both from outside the program. These were coaches with a different viewpoint and new ideas. Jeff Scott apparently was an excellent receivers coach--- we sure miss him.
From within the program, Tony Elliott was not an excellent play-caller--- he was saved by the likes of Watson, Lawrence, Etienne, etc. The offense has suffered since Chad Morris left--- remember those
50--60 point games? He was a great play calling and great quarterbacks coach.
Having players like Lawrence and Etienne hid deficiencies of the line and receiver development.
I haven't seen excellent development of offensive players in years--- whether it be quarterbacks (even Lawrence didn't improve while at Clemson), running backs, linemen, nor receivers.
Dabo needs to overhaul the offense--- we'll see about the defense next year.
