Here is how the portal works right now with the portal being as free as it is right now.

Bigger schools with lots of money they don't have to risk spending any money in recruiting, they just have to see how a kid is developing at the smaller schools and take them from the portal after they've seen what type of player those kids are going to be.

With the way that the portal is right now, schools with lots of money just have tell these kids, hey David, I watched you play during this season at your school and if you enter the portal, we'll be able to offer you a decent NIL package if you join us next season. Just enter the portal and we'll take you from there...

There are some really good player on our Clemson baseball team, and schools with tons of money can take any of our guys they want by promising them a bigger, better NIL package than they're receiving right now if they will enter the transfer portal they will take them from there!!!

I don't envy his job, but have great confidence in him and his staff. He showed why kids want to play for him this season. That counts for something outside of the money.

Agree, very true. But where I think a lot may get confused, is baseball isn't a full ride like basketball and football. You can get those kids that want to play in his culture, but if they're out of state, 1/4 scholly won't cut it.

I must apologize to some posters a few weeks ago when Taylor was discussed. I didn't think he'd go that high until he proved he could make it thru a season injury free as well as prove himself at the plate. Perhaps it was more hope than anything. Hoping he'd want to come back because I still can't see him going higher than his hs draft of 19th round. Still, I think a kid like will would be an ideal candidate for NIL helping him make close to his draft status.

It'd be nice to get an interview with coach and ask him about certain players after he does the 2nd round of exits.

Is there a way we can pony up nil as a fan and designate a certain program or player. No doubt coach will get 110% out the team, but until he and other programs (golf etc) get the money, there's no way we can realistically get back to the glory days.

It would not shock me if TENN came after Cam with a ton of $$$$$. They have unlimited amounts of $$$$ to sway the most loyal players on any given team.

Bidding wars now for college baseball. What a shame.

Hey @dhood. Nice article. What about a deep dive into what exactly will it take. Sure, there's probably at least a 1000 posters on here that'd gladly give 100 bucks to help... but that's only 100k. 100k is better than none, but keeping it real, what's it really going to take?

I would think there's a finite number of donors that can make a difference. Obviously moving to a real conference helps us compete financially with tv money that buys us the botb in facilities and coaches etc, but how, if at all would that help with NIL? Do we dissolve iptay and put that towards NIL collection?

Because every coach not named Dabo or Brad is dealing with this. A journalistic piece giving a comparable school would be interesting.

Just a thought. @dhood

Like basketball and Brownell, I suspect Bakich knows and engages with the deep pocket supporters of baseball. What I bet he needs more of is NIL contributions to offset scholarship money gaps for the bulk of the roster. Right now that’s whatever 110 Society has done to build a donor base of smaller monthly contributions.

I have a little insight in the NIL space. Clemson’s Collective is The 110 Society. You can give and designate to a specific sport. The poster is correct that one of our challenges is that in college baseball schools only get 11.7 scholarships total. Schools with large endowments have an advantage of using endowed funds that are available to all students to make sure their baseball team needs are met. We have some very good players that actually have to come out of pocket to play for Clemson. One NIL goal is to make every baseball player at a minimum have the equivalent of a full scholarship. Candidly, that will not be enough to keep some of the more NIL rich schools from coming after our talent. It is also not enough to be competitive in the portal. I was told by a very reliable source that last year Coach Bakich went on the donor fundraising circuit and raised less than 50K in NIL money. He deserves better. The last two weeks were electric. Lets find a way to raise NIL money for baseball and head to Omaha next year. Link to 110 Society attached
