Last year they had a GREAT time in New Orleans. I wanted to hear about their preparation and practice and focus on the game, and instead it was all about the fun things they were doing. Fun fun fun.
I’ve been mad at Dabo ever since. I love him, I think he’s just the finest man, Clemson is so fortunate to have him.....but sometimes his instincts just aren’t killer enough. Fun times won’t beat Nick Saban on the football field. Dabo did not have the team ready to play Alabama.

When have you ever known Dabo to not have a great game plan, the loss to Bama was on the lack of the players, not the coaching staff.

you are correct. i recall hearing that stuff about having some fun and thinking it sounded more like Tommy West than Dabo. Dabo has always had the guys ready for post season; 'cept last year.
I want to hear more of how much work they are putting in and not what they might get to see or do in Dallas.

The players can talk all they want about focus and whatnot. Clemson did no get beat because they partied. Anybody, anybody, who knows diddly about Dabo Swinney knows he would never let that happen. he didn't. They were ready. They got beat by a better team, they got beat because Clemson had second level wide receivers who would not compete for the ball and who frequently took the easy boundary route rather than the tough post routs, and we got beat because we had a QB too slow on his RPO reads taking away half of Clemson's offense, and then could not keep Alabama honest with deep throws.
In a large nutshell, that is it. Forget the rest of the mea culpas. Too many of us want to love our coach right up until we lose and then lecture him on what he did wrong. Clemson did as good as it was capable of doing. But those areas killed us.

I don't believe they partied but there were a few who showed signs of a bad sugar crash after all the beignets and cafe au lait.

Playing Alabama, you'd better be focused and it is amazing that we weren't. Now, can we learn from that and focus on a big, fast, talented Notre Dame team? If not, we'll go home early.

If there was a gap, it wasn’t big. Remember, we beat Auburn and they didn’t. We came in as the #1 seed and our defense played well enough to win.
What it came down to is that their defense played better than our offense. Our offense looked unfocused and their defense looked mad about last year. KB was running for his life most of the night. Recievers dropped important catches. Just a poor effort from a lot of guys.

It was a rebuilding year for our offense and we were especially short handed when Tee Higgins got hurt, but I wouldn’t say we had an LSU offense. They were playing well at the end of the season.
We had a lot of opportunities to turn the game our way and the talent to do it, but we didn’t make plays.

Alabama likes to say they beat us badly last year. Truth is, their offense seemed only marginally better than ours. Our defense only gave up 10 points as I see it. The last 2 TDs were courtesy of our offense! But their defense won the game! They outplayed us.

Their punter was better than our punter. We lost 10-15 yards of field position on each exchange. In a defensive battle, that was the deciding factor.

Bama was only up 14-7 at the half in the 2016 game. Not surprised the defenses dominated early.
We had RRM wide open for an easy 6 on that first interception, but KB wasn’t given time to throw.
Next offensive play was a deflected pick-6 that Deon Cain should have caught.
It’s frustrating because 2017 was the closest thing Bama will ever have to a “rebuilding year” and we couldn’t capitalize.

I'm sure everybody's first thoughts went to Cain and McCloud when "thinking about leaving early" was mentioned.
That may be true but remember Taylor Hearn also decided to leave early.
In my opinion an offensive lineman who is not prepared and not focused on the game can cause a lot larger of an issue than a WR or two.
Everyone discusses how our line just couldn't hold up and blocking was terrible. Many people have suggested that our o-line simply wasn't good enough. Maybe there was more to it than ability to block Bama.

Okay, so what is your point? If our OL couldn't block them, what could they have done beyond that, cheer?? KB couldn't pose a down-field passing threat, so they load the LOS. End of game.

Talk is cheap. Pollard and the O line need to prove they can block. O Line had juniors and seniors in NOLA. Clemson O line pushed was around like a wet mop by Bama.
Score could have ended at 10-6 were not for the pics - still a loss. O Line really needs to step up in Dallas, and hopefully, in Santa Clara.

See my post just above yours. Hearn may have played a huge part in our looking lost up front. Cohesiveness is huge for an o-line.
I also find it odd that you remove 2 turnovers from our offense (one was at mid-field) and you automatically assume that no more points would have been scored on our part.

I've seen several regarding our inability (or unwillingness) to recruit top offensive linemen. It seems that we just don't get the 5 (or even 4-star) guys guys there, although given our current recruiting class this may be changing----Putnam!! Our current class ranked in the top five in the nation! Hats off to our coaching staff. I'll gladly take this.

Oh gee. And how old are the Notre Dame and Alabama players?? If you guessed 18-20, you guessed right. So have they been drinking a "maturity" potion not available to our players?? I think not. If I'm wrong, please let me know. So, the point??

Only one person is making $millions in the Clemson organization. I hope Dabo is putting this out that his team wasn't prepared. Buck stops with the head coach. The kids are talented unpaid athelete making millions for Clemson and the coaching staff.. Wouldn't fault them to thinking ahead to what is potentially possible for them and their family.

And how would they reap these millions without first proving themselves in college football?? Players at an elite program like Clemson are given an all-expense-paid opportunity to showcase themselves to the NFL. Have you seen the facilities they have available, the food, the weight training?? Hello?
