Depending how one defines “much” - Kane Patterson seems like a successfully move to me (albeit Vandy).

Think we posted at the same time. Agree but I'm glad it worked out and he left tbh because Covil got valuable snaps. Charleston would be gone. So I treat all listed as Clemson wins. We benefited with their departure.

Was a good move for Kane. Happy for him. Truth is, he wouldn't have had very many snaps this year with us. Maybe a few mopup snaps... we were too deep.
Charleston would have gotten some snaps with our injuries but I still think Covil passes him. Not sure if he could have played corner. Still think it's a good move for him.
Happy for Darnell. He finally saw the field and got to play. He'd never seen the field with us this year. Good move for him.
As for the others, obviously they just didn't develop for whatever reason. But so far, I haven't seen one that would have helped us out... or would have developed more.

Lun J could had helped last year and he is by far the biggest example of the dangers of the portal.. all that talent and he’s wasted two years jumping around.

Dukes had 5 touchdowns and 127 yards receiving too. This article is so slanted doesn’t make sense. Why would you write about former players is they moved on? Guess you got to have something to write about right.

I agree that omitting some stats is not good.
While I can see your point and somewhat agree with you, overall, I disagree that posting an article recapping prior year transfers is also not good. A tnetter made a similar post a few days ago, and I - along with other readers based upon comments and TUs - found it interesting to see how players who left the team fared. That post, however, omitted a number of players (included in this article), so it was good to get a more complete ‘accounting’.
Besides, who doesn’t want to know about the ex girlfriend/boyfriend that dumped you - and in some small (private?) way take comfort in believing (hoping?) that they might have regrets about leaving you?
GO TIGERS!!!
(….but just the ones that stayed with the team ?)

Absolutely nothing wrong with this article. It answers the questions that often get asked at tailgates and my family gatherings: “Whatever happened to ______?” “How has he done out there?”

Because defending Dabo is essential for Clemson media.

If losses to the portal can be portrayed as a non-issue for Clemson, it does two things:
1. It doesn’t make our staff look like they lost meaningful players. 2. It lessens the apparent need for us to use the portal to replace them.

Another Stretch response to further your agenda.
A lot of us post “Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger” in support of these guys when they leave. Since some of us actually mean that, we are curious to see how these guys fared and sincerely hoping the change was good for them. No hidden agendas for me. Happy for Charleston and Patterson. Both of those guys got significantly more playing time by transferring and that was probably their goal. I thought Charleston might have a chance for more playing time here, and I wondered while he was still here if he was spending some time in the love shack. Kind of similar to Fred Davis without the added off-field issue IMO. Whatever his reason for leaving, he got to play more at Mizzou so good for him.

I don’t take it as that. A lot of those names had not, and were not, getting playing time here. They went searching but discovered they just weren’t good enough at this level.
Other than the select few that make it in the league, everyone else has to get hard lessons about what they are actually capable of. Most of of had to eat that humble pie in high school sports.

Problem is a lot of those kids think they're good enough to play in the NFL. You can't put a price on the life long relationships that come with staying and earning a Clemson degree.
I highly doubt a year or 2 as a transfer will build those type of relationships at other schools.

You think they won’t end up with connections at those

Other schools and still have their connections in Clemson. Guys like Jeffries and Dixon already had Clemson degrees. Some of the others probably did to or were on the verge based on time here. You think Kane Patterson still doesn’t have connections here or is hurt by going back to Nashville, playing with his brother and getting a degree from Vanderbilt. Guys that come to Clemson get degrees whether they are here or somewhere else. It goes back to the type of guys we recruit.

Excellent point. Makes me curious about something. Everyone is spouting statistics about the portal. I wonder how many guys in the portal from Clemson have already obtained their degree and how that compares to the portal entrants from other schools.

I totally agree bc there is so much truth in what you're saying bc, only like 2 or 3% of college players actually get drafted, and those that did get drafted, only a small percentage of them make past their 1st season. If it were me, and at the age of 70, I admit that I failed myself long ago by not taking advantage of the chances to get a better education than I did. I can promise all the young people that still have the chance to get a better education now do it, bc there is not a do over button you can push to go back and get enough education so you don't have to work 12-14 hours 5-6 days a week. Then every year your kid-kids move up a grade in school, you worry the rest of the how you're going to afford to send them to college if they want to go, and both my daughters went to college. And bc I was a die never Clemson fan, so they were too, and both wanted to go to Clemson, and I had to tell them that I couldn't afford Clemson. Anyway, I'm just informing you young people of the dreadful disappointments you will face if you don't get all the education you can get right now to prepare for what's coming in your future if you don't get the education that it takes for you to afford a family without the bells and whistles, you will have to be smart enough and have a backing (people with lots of money that will trust you) to become an entrepreneur, and if you're lucky at that, then you can afford the bells and whistles for your family. Only the luckiest people in the world become entrepreneurs without much education and lots of money!!!

Well, most of the time it's close friends and family continuously in their heads telling them they are better than the guy playing in front of them, and that advise is from those that has never played a down of D-1 FB. But still, they were the voices in their friend or love one head telling them they should leave. I do wonder what those people are saying when leaving put their friend or loved one in a worst position than they were in before advising them to leave?

The grass on the other side may look greener, but most of the time that green grass is bitter, and it does make those that went over the fence ask themselves why, why, oh why did I made that mistake!!!!

This will likely be much the same and every school with multiple transfers. Most transfers are not going to be stars wherever they go. Stats don't tell the whole story about transfers because they are looking for time on the field. Bottom line, there are thousands of oysters in the Portal but only a few pearls.

It's about Clemson having quality depth and experience for the most part not that the players that left went on to be superstars elsewhere. You spend lots of time and resources developing a player to then watch it vaporize. I hate the transfer portal but it is pure stupidity to not add a few players to areas of need.

Patterson and Charleston seem to doing ok but the others? I know there were some injuries in there but these kids need to understand that Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow and Justin Fields are all EXCEPTIONS, not the norm. There's some bad, bad whispering in their ears. I image tons of P5 schools' media pages could be posting very similar articles.
Freaking portal, man...I echo Coach Brown's sentiments: it absolutely sucks, but the reality is you either use it or you're an injury away from disaster at a position. Can't survive with the portal ONLY taking from you.

I have no problem with Clemson commit who earns his degree and then transfers to get another season or two. Or who gets beat out of a starting job and wants to improve chances of pro career with more playing time in another program. Proud of the guys who keep their commitments and succeed at pro level, even though they may not have been a starter. We saw this year what having 2 deep players on DL can do. Hate it that we lost Swint and Pace. Not surprised about the rest. Good luck to them!

Universities like Clemson don't have anything to worry about when it comes to losing players to the transfer portal.
All it does is open up more scholarships for new guys that might actually matter to the team.
I'm happy for the guys on that list who saw their playing time and productivity increase a lot. They made the right decision.
The window to play CFB is narrow, then it's on to real life. Can't blame them for wanting to maximize their opportunity and live the dream during the short window.
I feel really bad for players who lose scholarships and end up with nothing.
