I guess if you really had to have transfers to complete your rosters, but bc of stubbornness you refuse to use the portal that would be crazy, but Dabo actually don't need transfer guys to complete his roster and he don't feel obligated to take transfers just for the sake of taking transfer players when he doesn't need them!!!

The “in a way” is that you have to do it and likes the old way better … but …
Smart said. "I believe in the kids we sign, I believe in the kids we recruit. I want to grow them to get better. It's not realistic to think you're going to keep all your players right now. What is realistic is you need to be operating with as much depth as possible, and it's made it tougher to do that."
There is no way that Dabo is the only one making the “right” decision. IMO - it is a much longer season with the expanded play off. Injuries will be worse. If you have not build more depth than the other guys you are already 1/2 a step behind.
… but I guess people read what they want into it.

Paying transfers can be just as much of a problem as it can be successful. Team continuity is just as important as having the right guys. Our depth is pretty impressive considering we haven't used the portal much. Some teams can't retain who they need and we have been successful doing it. Honestly I don't think we needed any portal additions outside of an extra kicker but Nolan could be an instant success also. I'm trusting the guy that brought us 2 nattys in the last 8yrs. Go Tigers!!!

How many has Clemson lost? Not that many.
When that does happen Dabo will have no choice but it is obvious being selective in offering scholarships has something to do with our retention!!!!

If you think about it, Kirby is right. If you have a good retention program, then you have less need for transfers. Plus your team is is more cohesive. Yes you can say you can get better quality players in the transfer portal at times, and many times you have a better season. But then your retention players will then leave as they know they will be replaced without hesitation if a better player wants to come in. So now you are caught up in the loop of living in the portal every year to make a roster. Is that sustainable? Look at Georgia as stated, they lost 21 players to the portal. How many are scholarship? Plus there goes your depth as well. Look at Florida State, without the portal, what do they have. Plus how well did it work last week for them.
I think everyone knows this that the transfer portal is really nothing more than a work for hire program. Most players in it have no or very little loyalty other than how much are you going to pay me, and as soon as things change it is goodbye. Dabo is a loyalty guy. His philosophy may prove to not be the best. but do we really know what is the best. So I ask, how many of you on these boards are willing to pony up the money needed to play properly in the transfer portal. By the way it is expensive. We don't have that big 10 / SEC TV money yet.
