Terry Don is a visionary, a man with a brilliant gut, an incredible contractor. He laid the strong foundation upon which Clemson has been able to spring board the football program. Glad that Clemson's administration, past and present, had the clarity of heart and mind to show the great appreciation, and recognition of what Terry Don accomplished while at the helm! Well done Sir and congratulations!

There's REALLY Something Special About Clemson..

it drew me All-In around 1957 when I visited for a football game while never having heard of it since from NC & a Tar Heel & unc fan.
That all changed in one afternoon on that beautuful campus..with the spirit & love I saw from those around me who had seen the Light first.
Go TiGERS!

This is why recruits say they feel the family atmosphere at Clemson, it's bc it is the real thing that nobody has to perform an act of being a family, the Paw family feeling is real, and you just can't fake a real family, and it didn't just become that way for recruiting purposes. I had the feeling of everybody being close friends when I started making those long trips to Clemson for FB games years ago. The way that Clemson people treat others when they come to Clemson on a Saturday for a game, that is what made those long drives so easy for me when I was able to make those drives. Even though I'm not a Clemson alumnus, I've always felt part of the college atmosphere going on at Clemson on game day, and I've always felt comfortable and a part of the people that make Tiger Nation a family affair on game day....

It speaks volumes when a couple who have strong ties elsewhere, chose to retire where they only spent a fraction of their life. Envy is a sin, so I'll say I'm jealous of all you tigers who live in and around Clemson. Like many, although many miles from Clemson, she's always in my heart.
Congratulations and thanks to Terry Don Phillips.
Editors note - The author's opinion on the sexual orientation of Clemson University is his own, and not that of the editor, Tnet or any of it's subsidiaries.

Not real sure what that editors note is all about but....
Hillbilly, I totally understand. Since my graduation from CU in 1984 my work life has taken me all over the place usually very far away from Clemson. At the end of this year we will finally be in a position to move back to the Clemson area and hopefully spend the rest of our lives there. I have been in your position - envious of the people close enough to enjoy it and now, FINALLY, I am getting there too. Good luck to you and yours and I hope you get there too if that is your wish. GO TIGERS!!!!

Unless it is the “she’s” I’m not sure about the Editor’s note either. Because that’s not “sexual orientation” but gender pronoun. As an old editor, after discussion with the writer, I’d have recommended “sic” (Which can mean the editor left it as written, even if wrong factually, grammatically or in syntax). My viewis it is unnecessary, too “PC” and a review of editor’s notes, rules and markings of a style guide would have been appropriate.
But enough of that. BEST WISHES TO TDP!

What he said! I’m so grateful TDP as we used to call him got honored and made Clemson his home. Growing up there I always knew how nice and loving the people were but the love of all things Clemson makes it great. I never understood coots from there. It’s like being a rebel in heaven, it just doesn’t work for ya!
Way to go Terry Don TDP we are so grateful for your vision and foresight!! Thank you from all of the Family!!

Humble, are there a lot of Gamecock fans living in and around Clemson. I ask bc I was thinking that if there are, they were really easy to spot during their only brief time with success. But they are probably back in the closet, and very hard to find bc they have sealed themselves in the closet to hide what would surly give them away, it's that foul smell

TDP did a great job for Clemson. His choice of Dabo was courageous and his sticking with him in those early years when the coots were beating us was also courageous. Turned out his faith and knowledge were rewarded.

"It's a special place."

Our lives put us contact with folks all across this land. This past week a new person was introduced into my realm of contact. Turns out he is a Razorback, living in Arkansas.
I ended a business email conversation with him, after he hinted to his college affiliation, with a resounding, “Woooooooo . . . . . . PIG . . . Soooie!!!” And GO TIGERS!!!
Here was his immediate reply which speaks to Terry Don Phillips love of Clemson:
“I am impressed with your Hog Call! But I hope this doesn't mean I have to go rub a rock and sing Tiger Rag. I might could run down a hill though! Btw, Terry Don Phillips is a Razorback and the plan was to loan him out to y'all then have him come back when Frank Broyles retired. But Terry Don fell in love with Clemson and didn't want to come home so it has to be a special place! I'll now be pulling for y'all but I doubt they need much help in getting to the playoffs again!
C..L..E..M..S..O..N!!!”
Congratulations and Thank You to Terry Don Phillips!!!!!!!

Clemson is a special place - I knew it was a special place
Aug 24, 2019, 9:27 AM

the moment I went to my first football game in the 1970's. As a student in the 1980's it was forever imprinted on my heart.
I have to admit that I have become a little concerned with the skyrocketing growth and "sprawl" that seem to be exploding around the campus and town. I understand that "growth" is a sign of progress and is generally good and necessary, but too much growth, particularly rapid growth with little consideration for your roots can destroy what makes Clemson special. After talking with some of the local shop owners in Clemson, and seeing the never ending construction in/around Clemson, I'm getting a little worried that the town council and University may becoming blinded by "progress" at the expense of destroying an affordable small town environment.

I graduated in ‘84 and I agree it is hard to see some of the changes but I think we have a long way to go before we lose the special feeling you get at Clemson. I think it is more about the people and culture and so far that has remained intact and I believe is maybe even stronger than ever thanks to people like TDP, Dabo and President Clements. GO TIGERS!!!!

I have saw what you have been seeing, but I do believe that as long as Dabo and the people he has working for him with a large percentage of those being Clemson grads, the love and the family feel will remain at Clemson as long as those types of people are at Clemson!!! It will remain the Clemson that I grew up loving long after I'm gone from the living!!!

As a newly minted "Golden Tiger, " class of 1969, my wife, kids, and grandsons have visited Clemson hundreds of times. On our first visit to the Reeves Center two young men, who obviously were football players, graciously opened the door for us. We were impressed with their first class manners. That's just one example of the Clemson family experience. Go Tigers!

I made my page size 500% larger than normal, and I still couldn't read what was written on the TDP honorary degree. Are they all the same with just the name change, or, are they made up in a person way for each individual, I was just wondering about that since we can't see what's on the one given to TDP?

per TigerNet rules since he has an honorary degree. Or is he an "honorary" fan or what? Wasn't one of the Tnet requirements to be a true Clemson fan a Clemson degree? Asking for GWPee
p.s. Guess we better give Dabo and some others one too.

You do know that president Barker wasn't that interested in sports. I could be wrong and probably am, but I think that it was Barker that was wanting to take money from the athletic coffers and putting towards strengthening academics at Clemson....

You don't know what you are talking about. Jim Barker was very supportive of athletics. In fact, during his interview with the Clemson Board of Trustees, one of his stated goals for his presidency was to win another National Championship in Football. It didn't happen during his tenure but it did just three years later. AND during his presidency, he hired Terry Don Phillips as AD and approved the hiring of Dabo Swinney as head football coach. Jim Barker may not have come to the locker room after every football game, but he was at every game, entertaining potential donors and cheering on the Tigers.

We’ve been very blessed to have some great “men of character” all through the history of Clemson University. Terry Don Phillips is certainly one of those Country Gentlemen we aspire to emulate and develop, and this honor is well deserved by him.
Destiny is always available to those who prepare themselves for the moment.
Well done Terry Don!

Was that mentioned on the honorary degree anywhere? We dominated Italy!! (jk) don't get all upset ty for all you did for Clemson regarding Dabo and listening to TB who suggested Dabo would be the best choice as interim.
