To voice their opinions. I bet everyone who doesn’t agree and always bashes folks when they speak Their opinion voted for Biden.
I don’t bash them when they talk about they have been Clemson fans for ### amount of years and would continue to cheer the team on if they went 0-50 for the next X amount of years. Guess what idiots so would we but we’d would actually talk about our displeasure with the team versus you sunshine pumpers. So if anyone sounds like a coot, it’s you the sunshine pumpers that do. Us of those that complain are definitely not pumping sunshine and realize that Clemson as well as Dabo is not perfect.

When you call the coach an arrogant brat you pretty much open yourself to whatever criticism you get. The statement about who us “sunshine pumpers” voted for is one H3LL of a big leap. The two things have nothing in common. You don’t bash us but just call us idiots? Can’t have it both ways.

I am definitely a band wagon fan. I jumped on the minute they hired Dabo and I will admit that to anyone. I live a thousand miles away most of the time, but I'm in Greenville pretty often and I love everything about Clemson. But, in all honesty, I never cared one way or another until my daughter moved there and I visited Clemson and they hired Dabo. I'm fair-weather, but will probably be a Tiger fan for life now because I am hooked.

I appreciate everything he’s done but there is nothing wrong with getting outside help. Coaching or portal.
I feel like Dabo used to be very humble and he’s lost that part of his attitude.

I am not sure how much is a loss of humility and how much is defensive posturing. A lot of people are questioning the second most successful coach of the last`10 years (I admit that I am one of them) and he is in a position that he is unfamiliar with. He has, as you said, been very stubborn in his response of doubling down on the type of decisions that people are questioning, while justifying it by his success.
I had not been one that questioned our use of the transfer portal until midway through the year and still don't think it is a big deal. I assumed that we had made some effort and struck out with some of the young men in the portal, but more recent remarks have led me to think that we have ignored it.
I am not even sure what to say about promoting Streeter to OC and it actually does not relate to whether he will do well or not. It is because Dabo admits that he didn't interview anybody outside the program and says it took him about 30 seconds to make the decision. I understand that he knew that TE would leave at some point and had previously thought about the decision, but there is no way he could have known who else might be available. The quip about what the "minority" thought about it might actually need to be addressed to his supporters of that hire.
I am sure that Dabo will continue to develop tremendous leaders, and it might be more important than ever. The leadership within the players is often forgotten about, but where would we be without the leadership of Watson, Boulware, Wilkins and Lawrence regardless of their talent on the field. Those leaders may really need to step up, because no I am not confident that the coaching staff is as good as it has been in the past.

A football fan is derived from the word fanatic. We have romanticized it into a positive word. In reality, we are all fanatics. That’s said, I’m disappointed in the decision. I would call it more hubris than spoiled brat. He has earned the right to play his son over Ajou. He has earned the right to hire people with zero experience. I’m trying to hold reservation until we see what they can do. I think everyone was hoping for a Joe Brady followed by Rex Ryan on defense. I know I was. Some of you defending the move were calling for Streeter’s job citing the role he played in the demise of Lawrence and DJ. When I texted my Tiger family about the decisions, the response wasn’t great tbh. It was mixed at best. We’re all fanatics. My pulse dropped 5% calling for Kelly Bryant to be benched for TL16. It reminded me of the fans that scoffed at me for booing Ken Hatfield. Sometimes a painfully obvious truth is enough to get a downvote on here. Guess what, it’s all everyone’s right. Please don’t hit me with the grammar police. I averaged 4.1 in English. But, a message board isn’t exactly a term paper. I’m too verbose and comma splice like crazy. Paragraphs don’t flow into the next. Also, not everyone on these boards got a college education. Some of us were born into Tiger fanatics families. I didn’t get my education y higher education until later in life. Obviously Dabo cares what the fanatics think. He created a position to keep him apprised of the “pulse” of Tiger nation. Tony Elliott cared what the fans think. “Words hurt” to quote him directly. I’m glad there are varying opinions. We have our blind cheerleaders, those who like to complain (myself included), those undercover coots, and those who are from other fan bases. Mostly UGA fans for some reason. Variety is the spice of life. That’s my two cents. I hope I get more upvotes than downvotes. God knows I have paid my dues since 1978. My mood hinges on if we win or lose during football season. Perhaps the problem is some of us are too fanatical about football! Grammar police note that too was used to show excess. Hahaha

Very well stated and laid out. Excellent synopsis of what I hear in the street, the grocery store etc. Not so much on here.
I do find it amusing that Dabo sounded just like Tnet. He's got someone keeping him abreast of the "mood" then doubles down and says he doesn't have time to keep up with it... If that's the case, why's it even brought up? Of course it matters, those people write your paycheck.

I was thinking that if people opinion didn't bother him, and it was the last thing he has to worry about, why would he waste his time defending himself with his past record. He brought proven coaches in that got him his record. He even fired a proven DC to replace him with a better one that he knew he needed to obtain the record that he has at Clemson. He really shouldn't waste time worrying what the program hadn't done before he became HC, and focus more on what he had to do to have the record that he has to this point. I think that Dabo is the only one that believes he can repeat what he's done with these coaching hires, and for Clemson and Tiger Nation, I hope he is right, but personally I believe that he got it wrong this time, and I don't care if he disagrees. He is the HC, and he can do it the way that he wants to do it. I've seen it, and many, many of you that makes up Tiger nation has seen it, ticket buyers will stop filling the stands if he don't keep a winning FB program. A coach that has brought all that Dabo has to our FB program, he has to keep filling those shoes, or Tiger Nation will forget how much they loved him and his winning ways. To me, this article was cocky coming from our head FB coach!!!!

Dabo is not “the only one that believes he can repeat what he's done with these coaching hires”. I believe and I think a lot of other Tiger fans also belief that Dabo knows what is best for this program. Time will tell.

My concern is that Dabo might be making decsions for different reasons than he did 10 years ago. I feel like he is doing things specifically because things such as the portal and promoting from within has been questioned. Admitting that he didn't look outside the program for an OC and it took him about 30 seconds seems, to me, hard to justify considering our offense this year. It might be different if he probed the market, and decided that Streeter was the best option, but he didn't.
Neither Morris or Venables were promotions. They were both hires. Transferring was not as easy in the past so managing that part of the game was less important. Defending his decisions by saying how well it has worked seems a little iffy when it was not those types of decisions that garnered the success.

look, there's not a thing wrong with having a difference of opinion and a constructively critical opinion about Dabo. He's not perfect and no one is above criticism. No one's begrudging you that. I myself have had some critical things to say. But if you think he sounds **arrogant,** then you simply aren't discerning. He sounds like a confident guy who isn't overly pushed around by the waves of opinion and is ready for the next challenge. This does not mean his every decision is gold. But there was authenticity, wisdom, balance and perspective oozing from him in that press conference. Arrogance? Not a bit of it.

If Streeter runs the same offense, which I think he will and calls plays anywhere near the way Tony did, we will not be able to get to the CFP.
I do not necessarily disagree with the move. Streeter needs to make some changes and move the offense forward with updated route trees and schemes that get wideouts open. Hoping he adjusts.

he’s taking credit for is due to one fortuitous hire: Brent Venables. That’s why they don’t believe in him. They don’t think he did it. And now the guy that did is gone.
And our opponents are saying the same to negatively recruit against us.
On offense, it’s because we had generational talent QBs that covered up the flawed coaching.

Venables was a great hire (by Dabo) and that is why we have played so well from 2014 to 2020. There are a lot of great defensive coaches out there, and if what we have now doesn't work, then Dabo will make additional changes.

Dabo is correct. He certainly has earned the right to make coaching hires best for the program and should not be questioned. He hasn't won 80.5% of his games, the highest of any major college coach, by being stupid, and all of his wins have been at Clemson.
Some forget how fortunate we are to have him leading our program and maybe take him for granted. The real USC, LSU, FL, ND, TCU, OK, OR, and a few other HC jobs came open this year. He could have had any one of those jobs by simply tossing his hat in the ring, but he is still the head Tiger.
We should count our blessings.

I am tickled to death that he does not listen to the minority, otherwise, he would have been gone after the first year, he has proven himself time and time again.

Well I guess I will still be in the minority. Oh and do not say that I am not All-in or any other ########. I have been a Clemson fan since 8th grade, from Louisiana originally and currently live in Arkansas. Try being a Clemson fan in those states. I just felt like we should have looked outside the program, if nothing else to see what was out there. Maybe we would not have found anyone better but at least look. I saw first hand Brandon Streeters play calling, as I was at the Sugar Bowl last year against OSU. It did not go well and got to see the OSU fans heckling Clemson fans all night at the Superdome. I heard he didnt have time to really prepare. However, you only have a week to prepare against every team throughout the season, so he had enough time. I just hope Dabo's choices pay off. I am tired of hearing how the Razorbacks would beat Clemson this year, how Clemson is done, how Alabama would destroy Clemson, how LSU destroyed Clemson, etc....

Im glad you asked. I began my HC career at a middle school in Louisiana. It was challenging teaching 5th-8th graders how to play football. Well then in 2001 right before 9/11 I joined the Army. I was sent to Ft. Benning for Basic and then to Knox for additional training as a 19D. I spent 10 years actve duty and still in the Guard. Well I was the HC/Player of 2BCT, 1st Cav flag football both at Ft Hood and while during my 1st deployment to Iraq. It was challenging, flag football really makes you scheme some good plays. Now, I am the HC/player of the flag football team I am currently with in Arkansas. That is the extent of my coaching career but thats not the begining of my opinions, thats right my opnions.

I have been a fan for 41 years and I have seen some terrible times and play by the Clemson football team.I have also experienced some glorious moments as a dedicated fan,and for that I am thankful.I will say this about Dabo,I DO believe he is more a CEO than a coach,BUT ,he got the men he needed to create what we have had for over a decade. For this he deserves praise, and everything he said in this speech is true That's not arrogance, that's fact.Sometimes you eat ribeye and sometimes ya gotta eat baloney, but as long as you are nourished, you survive another day to fight.Eye of the tiger baby.My blood is,and always will be,orange. We have been to the mountain top and now we are humbled. But for those who can't be happy with our "turmoil",please kindly step aside so the real fan can move to the front.

I have hope/faith that Dabo made the right hires. Again, I am not against Dabo. He is a smart man but Coach O for LSU was considered the best coach in the country after 2019. When Joe Brady left, Dave Aranda left, he had to make some new hires. How did that workout for him? We shall see how his hires go, even the smartest coaches can make dumb moves.

usarmyshreve® you seem to be a smart guy and make some good points in your posts.
But it seems you are a bit worried about the trash-talk from opposing fans (OH State fans last year in the CFP). Worried about you if you let people who don't know you and who don't give a rats behind about you get you all worked up when they talk trash to you. Even worse when they are OH State fans, who had their rear ends handed to them by Clemson every time they played us since 1978.
And for your assertion that Coach Oregano at LSU was deemed the best coach in the country during and at the conclusion of the 2019 season? Man, where you been and who you talkin' to? You might be the first person I've ever heard to suggest that you heard that from even one other person.
As for Dabo sounding like he's bragging ... I'll paraphrase a line from HOF baseball pitcher Dizzy Dean (who was known to talk big, but delivered big).
'It ain't braggin' if you done it.'
Again, not to bash you (you've made a lot of smart observations from time to time). But think about it a little more.

Do I think Coach O is better than Dabo, not by long way. I never thought Coach O was even a good coach much less a great coach. Although, my friends who are LSU fans thought Coach O was the best. Anyways, I did not just make that analogy up, it was written by people who think they know (i.e. Paul Finebaum, who I cant stand, etc). There are many more. My point wasnt saying Coach O was better than Dabo. My point was just generalizing that sometimes a Coach can seem to be on top with the right hires but when those hires leave and they have to rehire the decision does not pan out. I hope and believe Dabo made good hires. I just believed we should at least explored outside candidates. Clemson is still Clemson and will be on top again really soon!

I agree with Dabo's sentiments 100 percent. However, I wish he would choose his words a little better. Unfortunately many in the liberal and Clemson-hating national sports media (insert ESPN, ABC) will try to turn his use of "minority" into something racial to try to deter recruits from coming to Clemson. While those who know Dabo would never believe it, it will most certainly become the narrative in some low-life media circles.

All I have to say is … I questioned The Dabo hiring. I grew to LOVE him. I questioned Chad Morris … uh well. He did his job. I even questioned Trevor … could he be as good as they say. Uh yes. So. The only question I have is why not listen to some others from the outside that want the job and may have some new perspectives. That’s all. I get hiring from within. But … I’ve been won over before.

Ii m not anti or pro-Dabo, although his loquaciousness leaves something to be desired. This year has shown him to married to his past style, and determined to hold the former course in new circumstances. He has a family concept that extends beyond the players and to the coaching staff, so his selection to elevate from the inside is not at all surprising to me. He wants to be comfortable with his hires, and I suspect that if forced to choose, he would prefer extreme comfort to extreme competence. Of course, he wants both and thinks he has achieved it with these hires.
I view his choices as a high risk venture because, if his new OC and DC are really good, Dabo will not get the longevity out of them that he got from Venables. If they are as good as he claims, they will depart, and quickly. If they are bad, I think Dabo will be on thin ice because he will have had a chance to get some hot shot OC and DC candidates, and chose not to. He owns these decisions and the consequences. Will the new OC and DC buoy him up or drag him down? We will see whether what is to come justifies his swagger and his claims that past success prove that he invariably makes good decisions. We will also learn how much of Clemson's success was due to his former OC and especially DC.
However things go, it is evident from the commits who are moving on that for 4 and 5 stars, the bloom is off the rose.

I don't think the minority is who he needs to worry about pleasing. I think the displeasuree with this past season, his refusal to make changes and his coaching hires now is much greater than he is aware or admits. Someone in a previous post said something about if someone doesn't like it to stop paying dues and drop out of IPTAY. I'm pretty sure they don't have money trees outside the new football facilities in Clemson.

Talk about what you like and don’t like about a coaching decision. Promoting from within…hiring ex-players…use of the portal…game plans. It’s part of the point of the board. But I am just shocked that people have the gall to come on here and mock Dabo, or demean his decisions. Two national championships. Everything you could ask for on and off the field. And some people think not only that they know how to do this better than him, but that they know so much better that they can attack the man. Clemson fans. That amazes me.

One thing to think about, these players have position coaches who probably recruited them. We retained all of them except coach BV with Linebackers. That is a positive because if we started loosing those coaches we would have really seen the Transfer Portal bust at the seams. Also all coaches have to start somewhere and have to learn from someone. We had probably one of the best teachers in BV. As far as Streeter goes, when he was at Richmond he had one of the best scoring offensives in football. Also he hasn’t been the OC at Clemson, how do we all of a sudden l know what he is going to be. I for one believe Dabo has already told him that changes have to be made. As for as Dabo saying he didn’t interview anyone from the outside and it took him 30 seconds to make his decision, do you think that Dabo didn’t know who was on the outside that would be a good fit, I for one know that when you are a CEO, you are constantly evaluating your staff. I know I did as Sheriff and I believe that Dabo did as head coach and had conversations with his coaches all the time. It has been reported that he told his staff midway through the year that he loved each and every one of them but if changes weren’t made, he would fire them. That is a true CEO and a true HEAD COACH.

Defensive continuity makes sense. They were dominant. Offensively, they could’ve used new blood. I think a historically bad season justifies negating an agreement on internal promotion. Hopefully Streeter disagreed with what they were doing and changes some things but he’s not exactly blameless considering DJ’s development.

Dabo did not consult with me on the hires, but I’m good with his picks. However, if he knew in 30 seconds what he was gonna do, I wish he hadn’t waited SEVERAL days to announce because we had a couple of players de-commit during that period. But hey….it’s all good until it’s not. The proof is never in the talking so we’ll know this time next year.

We will see what the next 10 years bring. I for one have loved the last 10. I fully expect something similar the next 10. The foundation is here. The dynamic head coach is here. The facilities are great. Most importantly he will do it the right way. As someone who had a losing record all 6 years as a student, I think a lot of us just need to get a grip and realize what we have and how close we may come to losing the glue that holds it all together. Come on people. We are in great shape for the future. Name me 3 other schools with records that rival ours over the last 10 years and that have the expectation of something similar the next 10? Bama, well maybe if Saban coaches to 80. Georgia, come on, there is the Kirby factor. LSU? Do you really think Kelly will be there in 10 years? USC? Riley goes pro most likely at some point. Florida, FSU, Miami? Ohio State? Ryan Day likely goes pro too. Given our resources and schedule I like our chances.
