My biggest question is what makes Kyle Richardson worth $50K more than Spiller and Grisham with him just becoming the on the field TE coach in 2023, and I personally haven't seen anything special that he has brought to the offensive side of the ball.
I can see where the OC and the DC should be making more than all other coaches bc of their responsibility. I can see how the offensive and defensive line coaches are making more than the position coaches bc they have more guys that they are responsible for bringing along.
The position coaches I think they should be paid by how well they can recruit their position, and how well their position players perform on the field after being coached by their position coach.
So, I ask what has Kyle Richardson done with the TE's over what Spiller or Grisham has done with the position players that they have coached that does basically the same thing on the field. I know and understand that none of those three have much on the field coaching experience, but Spiller and Grisham I believe have a full season more experience than Richardson has bc he just became an on the field coach in 2023, and I'm wondering what makes his position with only one season of experience worth $50k more than what Spiller and Grisham are being paid with both of those guys having more on the field coaching experience than Richardson has. That is the part of handing out the raises that I really don't understand bc I don't think that any of us have seen anything that Richardson has done that makes him worth $50K more than two other coaches that has more experience than he does, and they coach their players to do basically the same thing as far as blocking, catching, and handling the ball.

Briningstool was second on the team in catches and led in Touchdowns. Tyler Brown had 52 to Jake’s 50 catches.

Salaries are based in part on their resume. Its why a guy like Luke makes $1M per year. Richardson was a successful HS HC and waited many years for his on the field opportunity. CJ was a great player but is new to the coaching game. There is no way for a fan to know exactly what an individual coach brings to the table. We know what we see from their position group but there are other factors helping with the game plan or being a vocal leader or evaluation of recruits.

Mike Reed is the best value for the dollar by far on the staff.... He must be in the spot Brad Scott was in towards the end of his career at Clemson.
We are very lucky Mike Reed is very happy in Clemson b/c he is an amazing coach, an amazing developer of talent, and an amazing recruiter.
Side note... on the whole Jeff Scott being back in Clemson.... Brad Scott is also back in Clemson. I am a HUGE Brad Scott fan and think other than the Dabo hire (also by TB), the Brad Scott hire by TB in 1999 (Eason's freshman year BTW) was the single best hire and the reason (with Dabo being named HC) as the reason we got to the level we got to.

Both guys earned that $$$ this season and if it weren't for the defense, our record would be much worse than 9-4
Also, Garrett Riley's salary should be much closer if not the exact same to Wes Goodwin. He has shown me absolutely no reason why he should be making $600,000 more

Wondering how you know this as Riley knew Dabo was an offensive guy when he took the job.

Top quality assistants are the key to success in major college athletics. We had outstanding assistants when we won championships, and when the quality of our assistants took a nosedive our performance declined significantly.
These raises are great to see, and speak to the quality of these coaches.
This is also why I gripe so much about needing to spend more on basketball assistants. We historically pay these coaches poorly. Neff increasing the budget in 2022 was a big deal, and allowed us to get better assistants. I hope that trend continues.

These football assistants EARNED THEIR RAISES DUE TO ON FIELD PERFORMANCE.
They aren't gifts. They aren't being paid more because it will make the team better. When the basketball team performance rises to a level of success, coaches there will be rewarded too.

So are you are saying Brad doesn't hire top quality assistants and that is why we see what we see on the basketball court?

Brad has done the best he can with the budget he has been given.

Our basketball assistant coaches have historically made about the national average. That’s fine if we want to be average, but that’s pretty low for a power 5 team - especially one with aspirations of being more consistently successful.
I think Brad has done a nice job, some of his assistants later took head coaching jobs. Others took jobs as assistants at other programs, sometimes lateral moves and sometimes to programs below us, but always for more money than we paid them.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since the budget was upped in 2022 and we were able to get Donlon and Dixon, we won more games and are recruiting at a higher level.

the RIGHT reasons, graduate players, be a BENCHMARK that others want to emulate - WIN consistently for 14 years . . . .
THEN you get more money to continue building the culture and furthering the vision that is well-known by the all the people that follow Clemson closely.
That's how it goes. That's how it SHOULD go . . . .
Great job coaches - well-deserved - keep Clemson at the forefront of a different way to be wildly successful.

If Luke keeps rolling along we'll get him up there too!
The black sheep is still Riley; there were coordinators that did better working with less talent against similar or stiffer competition with 1/3rd the salary. This year will show if it was just a bad year of growing pains, but he HAS to do better to earn his keep.

Can't really agree with you on Riley. Personnel wise, he was limited on what plays he could call. Clearly our oline pulling scheme proved to be a disaster as it landed us 4-4. We were obviously limited in QB'S too, and couldn't run a lot of deep pass routes... and the screens rarely produced any explosive plays because of wr blocking. And often left us with negative yards. I can't hold Riley responsible for Cade not reading the open receiver either.

“Get Luke up there” ??
He already makes nearly $1M a year as the second highest paid position coach on the team. And I would venture to guess he’s in the top 10 or 15 in the country.
He’s making double what Austin was making.
Luke is already “up there”.

Don’t believe for a minute Riley has been given the keys.
Coach Swinney really loves the offensive side of ball. He can’t help himself.
Salaries are an example- we have the money let’s spend the money. “Pay the athletes”. Oh “we just don’t have the money.”
Coach Swinney is extremely generous and helps tons of foundations and agencies doing hard things. He gives the experts what they request and they can change lives for the least of these.
United Ministries Anderson. Helping Hands Shelter. Breast cancer. Habitat for Humanity. Probably 100 more.

There's nothing stopping the schools from asking donors to redirect their donations to NIL collectives, is there? Also, the schools could make the athletes employees and pay them directly if they really wanted to.

Can’t blame Cade for the lack of blocking. Not having time to get the ball to the open receivers and not having time to let routes develop. Also can’t blame Cade for dropped passes. If the oline play and receiver blocking/pass catching improves and Cade still has problems, then you can blame him. It’s hard to read a defense when they are in your lap as soon as the ball is snapped. It is hard to play QB when you have your confidence broken early in the season because you can’t trust the line to block for you and you can’t trust the receivers to catch the balls thrown their way. Several of the picks he threw last year were on dropped passes and bad/unfinished routes. Let’s wait and see if there is improvement in oline play this year and not rush to judge a kid who was picking himself up off the ground 9 out of 10 dropbacks.
And Grisham did nothing to earn a pay raise. Bring back coach JS quickly please. Hope the receivers improve and play way better whether Grish stays or goes. But Coach Scott is a must have. He was by far our best recruiter and best receiver coach.
