"it grinds you up"? "Stresses of the position as a husband

and father?"
Bro. You're getting a million bucks a year to coach a game under one of the friendliest and most patient head coaches in the country. If this is that stressful of a grind for you, it's not a great sign.
Find a dude driving a backhoe for $40k a year trying to pay rent and buy groceries to feed a family---- go tell him about your stresses of your position as a husband and father.

I promise you he has a LOT more to keep up with. And it’s not eight or ten hours a day. More like fifteen. Dabo has talked about not much family time

Godwin’s improvement as far as in-game adjustments were apparent from three different sections.
First 3 games (with the patsies in there) our D was awful against the screen pass.
Next 4 games our secondary was exposed as being between terrible to just bad. WF game doesn’t need elaboration. NCState had one really good (not great, but legit) receiver in Thayer Thomas. We still couldn’t figure out how to stop one WR who wasn’t a burner by the wildest stretch of the imagination. BC, we get something of a pass because Zay Flowers was stone cold brilliant. FSU, on the other hand, had WRs with mediocre hands and a not especially accurate QB in J.Travis. We still depended on them dropping passes to win the game.
Final 7 games our D was pretty good, considering the health problems for our secondary. I don’t know about everyone else, but I had no idea that Mukuba was so banged up. Same with J.Lukas (who seemed to give up a TD each rare time he got in the game). Fred Davis never lived up to his billing. Malcolm Greene hardly contributed last year. Considering the state of our CBs (Mukuba was given as much pass coverage responsibility as a QB), I thought that our D coaching (including Goodwin) showed a lot of improvement during second half of last season.
JMO here, of course.

I totally agree with all of that. Normally, it takes a good year for a Defense to show improvement with a new DC. At Texas, our DC was pretty bad his first year. But, this past year was vastly improved and with more room for improvement, but it's getting there. Overall defense, we went from 100th in the nation to 54 in one season and pretty much stopped TCU and Riley's offense if not for a really bad roughing the punter penalty that didn't happen, and a fumble return by them, we might have beaten those pretenders. Georgia completely shut them down and embarrassed them.
It'll happen for Clemson in Goodwin's second season and if not, then you know by now that Dabo will make a change. I don't get the lack of trust for Dabo, he's proven multiple times that he can get it done.

Well, I give him credit for being brutally honest about his stressers. It was a little concerning to hear him say he didn't really understand the back seven. I hope he puts it together this year.
If he didnt recognize the stress on the "Get Back Man" working for BV, he surely saw all the stress on BV's face during the games.
Hoping for the best for Wes, one thing he has is a great support staff with Eason, Hall, Reed. If he can't get it done with them then maybe analyst is better job?

I could be wrong, but I read that as the secondary personnel being inexperienced.

I sure hope you're right concerning the back seven. How does a DC not understand the back seven.

As smart as this guy is, I guarantee he’s grown leaps and bounds over last year. I know personally when I’ve been promoted it took a good 6 months to a year to fully actualize in the role. The second time through everything is always better.

No way the coots should have scored 31 on us. Defense was bad in that one.

They scored 63 points on a good Tennessee team the week before. I think you're defense was fine.

Your sense of smell is about as warped as your mental state. I’ve expressed my reasons for being a Clemson fan on here before and it’s not worth repeating to anyone that knows as little as you about football

have grown up to be real cover guys then hopefully Goodwin will understand to turn the rest of the Tigers loose and attack consistently with a relentless mentality.

Crazy reading some of these comments

Unless Wes regresses like crazy, idk how y'all think this dude is on the hot seat.
I aint gonna sit here and say last year was BV standard of play good because it wasn't but for stepping in after a legend left, Wes was respectable. Of the two coordinators I didn't have as many concerns with Wes as I did Streeter.
Wes got better as the year went along. I certainly wish it would've been nothing but dominant defense, but, outside of a couple games where the defense was just torched, he kept BVs bend don't break model running respectively.
I'd put the Ls more on the offense last year than defense. Yeah, perhaps a more experienced DC could've made the difference but the offense has to play smart and score too.
Personally, I'd love Eason to take over as Co-DC for the field to replace BVs demeanor/presence on the sidelines and get Wes to go back upstairs to be the brain from up top.
Now, if the defense comes out and looks awful, hey, I'm happy to change my tune but I think Wes is gonna work out fine.

Who said he was on the hot seat? And I agree, he definitely should be better than last year. But with our talent level last season, the coots should not have had 355 passing yards.

I expect this unit to be in the top 10 nationally.
We should lead the country in TFL , red zone defense , and sacks.
The front seven are the best unit in college football.
The back end will make marked improvement.
Full stop.

Our offense hung his defense out to dry over & over again, they didn’t get enough credit!

Coach Wes is living some of that experience. Hopefully, thousands of hours watching tape can supplant the building blocks of playing the game and leading as a position coach.
