Good read. I personally don’t feel CD ever lost any fire. He just had really high expectations/hopes for CS to succeed. I think we all did. Buckle up TigerNet CD may have just thrown gas on that ?.

Need some game changers at wide out and running back in the next class. Hopefully Riley can convince Dabo ? to use the portal if some room becomes available.

Agreed. Hoping that with such a great hire, he'd respect him to make his own decisions and not micro-manage.

Ok. He knew what he was doing with his experimental hiring from within BS?! Group think is dangerous, obviously, the vanilla offensive mindset didn’t work. Losing 6 games in two years vs 7 over a 5 year period shows he lost handle on what it took to be elite. He won two natty’s and hubris set in. “I can win MY way!” Well, he didn’t. Elite coordinators won all those games. He went away from what got us to elite status. Inexperienced coordinators made five star players look like 3 star players. Wes Goodwin is the next on the chopping block. He took a top 5 caliber defense and made them pedestrian. We need a fresh, outside perspective with elite coordinating skills. Not some greenhorn who’s never coordinated a defense. In Streeter’s defense, he was a coordinator before and quite successful. He didn’t set the world on fire, but did improve the offense over the mess Elliott made. Scott SHOULD have been promoted alone. Dabo needs to stay out of Riley’s ear and allow him to call the plays alone. Dabo made many calls and would override Streeter a lot. Dabo made us believe the best is standard. He has to live up to that as CEO as well. By hiring the best coordinators and coaches money can buy. Not try to grow them from within.

Streeter got his chance under the lights! Sticking with DJ may have been his biggest flaw. He did a good job, but still underperformed. If Dabo was unable to hire Riley, Streeter may still be the OC.
Excited to see Riley’s Offense! Looking forward to a great 2023! Go Tigers!

That was not Streeters flaw that was Dabo in the flaw corner! Just try to fire the head coaches puppy and see where you coach next!

So Dabo was a year or two late to update the offense, so what? He gave Streeter an opportunity that he felt he had earned. Or he didn’t see anyone that he felt worked for Clemson last year so he took the cheaper route, hoping it worked out but knowing he could part ways and get someone else easily if it didn’t.
It took Saban longer than this to adapt from the pro-style, power running game to a spread. The point is that they recognized the weakness and took steps to fix it.

DJ was the queen of the bubble screen...for a while that seemed to be all he could complete..that is why we had a 8.5 yd per completion rate...then he couldn't not throw those! Finally after changing diapers and switching formula multiple times Dabo had enough...loyalty is like a box of chocolates...yes Forest is sure can be!

Great article and you cant help but be excited for next season. I love the big play excitement and it sounds like we are headed in that direction again. I wish nothing but the best for Streeter. Great person and great Clemson man.

Coach Riley this Season and made comments to friends that we would be very fortunate to land a OC like this guy. His scheming and in game adjustments were far above anything we were doing….along with his “attacking” Offense was exciting to watch (again, unlike our boring, unimaginative crap). Sooooo…..very excited to see this hire and “spot the ball, let’s go”!!!!!! ??? Go Tigers!!!???

Of course Dabo wants to win and anyone who questioned that is more than 1 short of a full deck. What people need to understand is every coach wants to win, every coach has players on scholarship and it may just not be possible for us to win every game any more than every other team. To be undefeated is just an accomplishment that is a dream and we all hope for that dream. Hope is part of life.

I think where people disagreed Dabo still had the fire is watching #5 trot out there for 25 straight games while the offense cratered and Dabo furiously defended him. That will lead people to question if you have fire or have gone insane.

That’s because most of those wins were in spite of him. Outside of maybe the WF game, DJ was not instrumental in the game successes. I could arguably insert a whole slew of mediocre QBs that would have had the same success rate.

Clemson defense won many of the games that DJ should have lost...you can't be bottom of the ncaa in qbr without being just plain bad (2021). He improved a little in 22 however that might have been Streeter without TE! We will see soon enough...Riley has weapons not available at TCU and now we will see what he can do...hope he can...GO TIGERS!

It is easy to sit on the sidelines and throw arrows! To call for change when you are not the one responsible for the program and for people’s livelihoods ! I never will fault anyone for being loyal! It’s not that I couldn’t see changes needed to occur or that I don’t want Clemson to win every game. It is the fact that most people blabbing and crying and griping and complaining do not know enough to Grove an opinion! Yet they think they deserve to be National Champs every year because the picked Clemson to pull for! The. Pundits who really do know enough usually come across as condescending know it alls!

Well said. Dabo just showed who’s in charge. None outside knows the chemistry of a coaching staff and about 100 18/19 year olds that make up a program. Dabo might not do things to satisfy all the whiners and brats, but he’s the best we’ve ever had and people better learn to appreciate him more. Course as a former SC athlete close friend told me about USC recently, he said if you had to remove everyone at the ball game with IQs of under 75, you would empty half our stadium! Same dog bites Clemson “fans” every now and then. Dabo’s top drawer. Thankful to have him!!!

I’m just surprised how little faith ye people have. Of course he still has fire and not only that Cade Klubnik has a lot of fire and losing is not something he does well. I’m not predicting a national title next year, but I am saying Clemson will be in the playoffs next year. When I wrote my college football blog I predicted the champion 9 out of 10 times. I even dreamed Clemson won it a few nights back. My dreams are pretty accurate a lot of times so Dabo haters beware

Bigger than football, Dabo is a five star leader. Top of the top. He turned a program around that was mediocre for a long time. As a fan, I've questioned the decisions, the hires, etc... But Dabo has proved over and over again, he's going to make the right decisions for the organization. We need to look at long term, not just two years.
We're in good hands with Dabo, and truthfully, he will be remembered as the greatest coach at Clemson ever. One day, we'll be Michigan, Miami, etc... And say, "Man, I remember when Dabo was coach and we had a chance almost every year to win the Natty. Those were the days!"
My advice? Sit back, enjoy the ride, and be thankful the Lord saw fit to put Dabo in this school.

The vision that Dabo had and has today should be the same vision that every college coach in any sport should be gifted with!...When you look at some of the college coaches lately...I'll name schools and you can think of the coach...Florida, LSU, Texas A&M, ND, Miami(for years), UofSC and others...those folks are just interested in a big pay day! Dabo seems to truly care about the lives and the prosperity of those young men that he coaches...as one of you said we are blessed to have DABO!

I think assessing Coach Swinney's motivations is highly speculative. Was it fire, or a bit of fear plus a great deal of fire, or more fear and less fire? We will never know.
The hire does seem excellent, and no one was screaming for Coach's head, although many of us were screaming for staff changes. The job is too consuming for there not to be a fair amount of flames motivating a coach who has been at the top of the mountain, but you could certainly make a case for the notion that another season like the last two could increase pressure on the head coach to reverse the slide. There is cause for optimism with this hire, a proven performer whose specialties match well with Clemson's deficiencies.
We will see how it goes, but this hire does appear to enhance prospects for an uptick in 2023.

Because he fired Streeter he now has the 'fire'...wish he'd had the fire two years ago and fired DJ...fire is a strange think it can be your friend when you are cold and it can burn the he** out of you when misused...Riley took the players he had and made great offensive programs where he found a job! He may be a great 'chef' and now he can play in Dabos kitchen...we have much more talent and deeper talent than TCU had and they were overwhelmed by Jawja...running back hurt (my sister in law taught him first grade in Mr.Enterprise Texas) they really did not have a functional #2...at SMU his kids ran all over the field and caught passes...was really fun to watch and he had nothing compared to what he will have at Clemson...let the Tiger feed!
