Defensive ends got to the QB untouched a few too many times. Not sure what the tackles were thinking.

Thanks Ryan. Good article. And when you are wrong, Clemson seems right, so don't take it personally when I say I hope you are wrong more! Lol.
I was there and heard Sammys name a lot. Antonio did look good. Wesco showed out except for a HS mistake or 2, he can grow out of those. Pearman gave some confidence to the backup situation. I hope/pray number 2 was holding back his A game.
Go Tigers

I'm pretty sure if the the QB's were live in this game, Cade would have fumbled when Sammy sacked him. And that was one of the first plays of the game. Sammy did a Von Miller and dipped down to get under the tackle and get to the QB.

No, not really. The individaul O line grades almost always translate directly to the fall. I counted at least 4 probable day one starters on the Orange O line including our bookend tackles of Leigh and B Miller. Linthicum at center to go with Marcus Tate and Harris Sewell at guard. The White O line was mostly back ups. To add insult to injury, the Orange also got to throw to Antonio Williams, Bryant Wesco, and Adam Randall. Guess who the starting WR's were for the White team? Tink Kelley, Hamp Earle, and Ronin Hanafin. The defenses were divided more evenly but the outcome was already decided by the coaches with the stacking of the Orange offense. White team had almost no chance to move the ball. And with all that said, the first team O lineman struggled most of the day. It really did not matter if they were blocking 1's or 2's and sometimes even 3's. Outside of the QB scrambles, the only significant rushing yards came late afer the outcome was decided and the White defense was wearing down. Mafah would not have fared much better on the Orange squad as run blocking was not good. They will need to work a miracle to run the ball on Georgia with this O line. Defense should keep the game close for a while but the "air raid" offense will need to hit another gear to have a chance.

Hate to say it but I would have failed English 101 had I written this article at Clemson my freshman year. It also seemed contradictory when it talks about Cade Klubnik. I fully anticipated Cade not playing well in the spring game, but I was also very disappointed that Vizzina didn’t step up and play better. Pearman deserves a lot of credit for his performance and being ready to play. Hopefully Dabo will reward him with some meaningful playing time even against Georgia.

My rose colored glasses that I usually put on this time of year have been relegated to the trash heap. I will abstain from drinking the "KoolAid" hype also. Georgia will expose any weaknesses we have. My hope is that we survive and advance and that the coaching changes / additions we have made recently will pay dividends soon. Go Tigers!!!

You really don’t learn much watching touch football. I wasn’t over joyed with the play in this game. Offensively I was disappointed. Not having several key players available affected the play in the game. Long way to go before this team can beat UGA! Offensive line is average at best and Klubnik is still the QB I watched last year. Summer workouts are VERY important this and every year!

In a row. And that is telling.
We may have to rely (again) in the defense keep in games.

Cade is in year two of a QB coach for which we have evidence outside of Clemson that he's excellent. DJU was under Streeter, but then again so was TL.

in short order, guys who have gained valuable college experience and shown that they can succeed at this level. We could assemble all of these players who are interested in a different environment and/or a fresh start and organize them by position.
We could call it a "portal." Coaches could access the portal, contact players who interest them, review film, and setup campus tours and meetings.
Then, if there was a mutual fit, the player would be able to go to the new school without having to sit out a year. He would then be available to play the upcoming season.
It seems that such a system would allow coaches to fill holes in their roster due to injury, recruiting misses, or developmental issues.
This sounds like a great way to improve your roster. What do you guys think?

Spring game, all about simply introducing team on the field.
Not much to get out of it, except maybe an injury which stinks. Exhibition for fans who miss football, players getting into action in Death Valley.
Yes this team will need to improve but they are young at a lot of spots and 2 things are really important. The Oline and QB play, other than that Clemson will be just fine.

Speaking of kickers: the field goals that were made were straight and true. However my concern was the lack of height on all of them. Just as last year, the trajectories were too low, and the get off times were slow compared to standard. Regarding the punting game, I saw several punts that never achieved the powerful spiral that turned over for hang time and yardage. Unless our plan is to hit difficult to return wobblers, there is a real deficiency inbthe punting game.

A very good piece Ryan and I noticed and appreciated your honesty. It was obvious. Keep up the good work. In my opinion, we're in big trouble against GA. but hopefully our defense will keep us in the game. One other thing, you didn't mention the secondary at all.

Thanks. The secondary was excellent and despite losing Nate Wiggins, Sheridan Jones, and Jalyn Phillips, and Andrew Mukuba, I still think they'll be good.
Wiggins was really elite. I expect him to be a first rounder. I like Shelton Lewis (CB), Kylon Griffin (S), and Khalil Barnes (S) enough that I think they'll be really good again. Maybe a slight step back, but linebacker could honestly be better and DE will be better.

I too was at the game. The offensive line play really bothered me. Plus, the offense never recognized the blitzing linebackers who came in unaccounted for. One got in the backfield so fast he almost took the handoff. This is a problem when the QB can’t read defenses and make adjustments in blocking assignments. I was disappointed in the offense and the kicking game. The defense looked to be in good shape.

I think you should be excited about the kicking game. It looks like we have a good kicker now.

I think when you get all starting offensive players together and Klubnik finally learns to be calm, cool and collective things will be fine on offense. I also think but could be wrong that Blake Hebert may be a “sleeper QB” that will be good for the Tigers. Only time will tell about this. Come on Football season.

Not impressed at all with Cade's performance. Yes the interception might not have been on him with the miscommunication, but he could have or should have had two more interceptions which would have been on him. I was expecting his decision making would be improved, but it has not and all the star receivers in the world won't help that. Yes he is athletic, yes he is accurate enough, and yes he is a good kid, but what separates very good QBs from so so QBs is decision making. In addition, he continues to be late with the ball which gives defenses time to react.

If Cade can get on Pearman's timing then we got our QB... Pearman hit guys out of their breaks. I thought Cade looked to take too much time to get rid of the ball. Was in person at the game so things get compressed in real time...

It would not surprise me at all if Pearman isn't Clemson's first string QB by the 4th or 5th game. I feel very confident about this.
