Very to the point article. Hopefully Luke can get these guys to play to their potential quickly. Otherwise it could be another 9 win season. Not that 9 wins is terrible, but I'd hate 1 position group to bring down the whole team.
Go Tigers!!!

After watching Leigh in the Gator Bowl he was way overmatched, going to be a long season on the left side unless he improves a lot

Teach these guys to be nimble, teach them to shag, teach them to jitterbug then you will have guys that can move their feet in pass blocking and run blocking. Sometimes you have to think and train outside of the box. Anything the same or less than last year is unacceptable.

or teach them to block vs the 'in the way blocking' scheme that ends up with all our OL watching the tackle as most of the defense is on the ball carrier.

I'm just trying to imagine the conversation lol...I'm pretty sure there's more rhythmic dance steps than the jitterbug..we need these guys to move like the dancers in the movie Coming to America. Go Tigers!!!

Saying that our O line play was a disappointment is an understatement bc it was actually atrocious... Hopefully by Dabo correcting one of his mistakes of appointing young under experienced coaches to keep what had been known as a championship caliber team in sink that turned out to be anything but championship quality.

Personally, I think that Streeter was probably one of the most experienced coaches that Dabo moved up as our OC/QB coach along with Thomas Austin as our O line coach, and Streeter was fired after just one season as our OC...

With everything that has taken place with mistakes being made with coaches being moved from one position to another, has anybody thought about what kind of an OC Streeter could have been with an O line coach like a Matt Luke as the O line coach. I have thought about it bc since Garrett Riley was brought in to replace Streeter and he had a much worse season than Streeter had playing from the Chad Morris play book.

I have thought about what kind of a OC would Streeter have become with an O line coach that has all the experience that Matt Luke has, and he has done well at about every place that he was the O line coach.

I know there was a lot of excitement when Garrett was hired as our OC, but Garretts offense wasn't all that impressive and that leaves me wondering was the wrong coach fired when Streeter was let go. Most of us know that a really good O line can help any offensive style look to be one of the best... Streeter's only season as our OC, he went 11-3 and 8-0 in the ACC...

I agree and I think this yr will determine how good of an OC is with Riley as OC, esp with the addition if Matt Luke

So Garrett is responsible for the recruiting and development of the offensive line?
Luke is working with what was left for him.
Not his recruits, and not developed by the former coach.
Luke has a proven track record and will do well if he gets the athletes.

Streeter was a sacrificial lamb. Given that the OL has been on a downward trend for years, as well as the WR group, then throw in the hot mess that was DJ, he didn’t stand a chance.

Like you said with the WR group, if no significant improvement then we know who the next " lamb " will be.

I highly recommend watching Ryan's YouTube video embedded in the article. There is quite a bit more discussion on specific techniques the line struggled with last year and how it potentially hampered GR's offensive scheme.

I think that’s where Matt Luke and his knowledge of being a very good Oline coach. Feel like Coach Iuke will be able to vastly improve technique, footwork, schemes, hands all the things Thomas wasn’t coaching them up on which are the basics of being a good lineman. The line is full of 4 and 5 stars like they said so I think Luke can atleast in a year fix the little things like bad footwork and hand placement. Not saying he will work miracles but I think we will see a big difference. Austin had no business being a national championship calibers team’s OL coach. He didn’t even play in NFL let alone get them to the NFL lol. No disrespect but he had no experience. Go Tigers!!

I hope Coach Luke helps our OLine make huge improvement, but one note on Thomas Austin. You state he didn't even play in the NFL, but he was in the NFL for 4 years and was all ACC for us 2 years, so he had experience and knows how to play.

In the NFL for 4 years not even a starter sorry doesn’t give you experience to coach college Olinemen over way more experienced coaches out there. It was an inside homer hire let’s be real that man had no business that coach!! I love what he did for clemson as a player but sorry that doesn’t give you what it takes to be a coach. Go Tigers!!

The offensive line is key. If it’s not improved, we won’t be able to make the ACC championship game, much less a playoff spot, and Georgia will do the same to us that they did to FSU in the bowl game.

Yeah, NCSU, FSU, VT, Miami, Louisville are all going to be solid this year. It is ironic since the ACC seems to be nearing collapse, but it should be a fairly difficult conference this season even if the bottom (Cal, Stanford, BC, Wake, UNC, Virginia) is pretty ugly.

The OL is always the critical link. People speak of "skill positions," but that coordination of the O linemen when picking up blitzes or opening holes is perhaps the hardest challenge in football. I agree that the talent is there. If this group can gel as a whole, the season can be bright. I expect this group to improve as the season progresses.
