Just refuse to die. Nice to know it's that simple.

He didn’t say it was simple. He said it was hard.

One of my favorites, SC native, and a good guy around campus.
Glad to hear he survived to ring the bell! 🔔

One of my all-time Tiger favorites, too. I still remember sitting at the table next to him in the Study Hall the week before the South Carolina game. All he could say was, "I hate Carolina... I hate the h e l l outta Carolina." Then on Saturday, he went out on the field and proved his nickname!

Go Tigers!

Okay. I am saying refusing to die isn't a factor. That's the point. I lost 3 of 4 Grandparents to cancer, my Uncle to cancer, and my Dad to cancer. They all fought as hard as they could, which means the best medical care, and wanted to live, but they are all gone. It's not a choice. It's not like one person fights harder and the cancer gives up etc etc.

Didn’t mean to be disrespectful to you. I like Stuckey because he was a hero of mine when I was a kid. And Steve Fuller, and Cunningham…

You weren't disrespectful at all. Appreciate you saying that, but you didn't say anything wrong at all. As far as cancer goes, I think catching it early is the key thing.

Thank you, that is my understanding also, and I was about to say something about that statement of him refusing to die since none of us on this earth has that choice. He was cured bc of whatever type or what stage he was in with his cancer and the doctors were able to treat and defeat his cancer before it had a chance to kill him. Him saying he refuses to die had nothing to do with him still living. He was one of the lucky ones that found out he had cancer before the effects of that awful disease had the chance to progress to the point of being saved. There has been many that have died from that disease that fought tooth and nail to survive and still lost that battle, Jim Stuckey has a lot to be thankful for, and his bravado of refusing to die isn't it!!!

Not even slightly bitter. Just being honest. It's a serious topic that should be treated seriously. Cancer isn't defeated by tyranny of will. It's diet, genetics, catching it early, and then proper medical care. That's what will give the best chance of survival. Refusing to not lose to cancer won't be a factor, a much as I wish it was.

Always a favorite of mine and certainly a big part of the foundation for the return to greatness and a new era of Clemson football led by Pell and Ford! You "youngsters" out there who didn't see him play pop in a clip and enjoy! Congrats on ringing the bell, just don't forget there must be a reason you are still here so keep up the good work!

I remember Jim well when I was a walk-on back in the Spring of 1980. He hung around the football facilities, staying in shape and waiting for the NFL draft. Congrats on beating cancer. Not everybody beats cancer. Lost my dad to cancer way back in 1983 at a young age of only 52.

He was a great player! But, we all die, at some point. He just held on for a while longer, and I'm glad for his perseverance and his attitude.
