Because recent success is mostly what new contracts and extensions are based on.
In case you didn't know, college sports are big money and coaches are expected to perform. "What have you done for me lately?" is a logical question ADs must ask themselves. In Brownell's case, we are currently having what is arguably our best run in program history. You can argue that either of the two most recent seasons are our best in program history, depending on the emphasis (overall wins, ACC wins, NCAA Tournament, etc.).

And usually by early March you can focus on the garden, baseball, softball and spring activities. Occasionally, like last year Brownell comes around and messes up plans, but happy mistakes when he does!!! Great job D1ck Bender and coaching staff on another record year on the court and a record setting performance in the NCAA tournament!

Not to mention numerous conference titles. Brownell has had two chances for a regular season co-championship and blew both of them by losing to huge underdogs. Ga. Tech lost in the 1s round of the NIT by 17 to a non-power 5 school.

Ahhh I see
From how I read it your first post was that Neff had to go and in the very next line it was about just how much Swinney has been paid the last few years. That came across as Neff has to go because Swinney is overpaid. Then your second post seemed to throw up stats to defend that Swinney is worth the money.
But I think I understood how you meant it... Neff has to go because Swinney earned that money by winning two titles and 4 CFP's whereas Brownell hasn't earned that kind of pay?

Nothing. There is no standard. None. But he’s the best. We’ll build statues. Sadly, this also is true. Iowa fires Fran McCaffery. Clemson pays him $5 million. Absolute negligence by an AD to spend that kind of money purely based on their personal relationship. Don’t care at this point if he coaches. But the salary and terms are unprecedented and disgraceful.
