Won't go down as a historical win, but I did see some grit in the second half. Obviously we have plenty to work on, but I will always take a win in Blacksburg.
Every season is important to me, but winning last night kept us important to everyone. No team scares me in the ACC; we squeeze into the playoff and anyone can make a run.
But holy ####, the whole time I watched VTs secondary I chuckled. At 40 years old, I could have walked my dog and had 12/145/2 TDs.

Floyd, I would like to think I could too, but we couldn't. Lol. I agree, they showed some grit. But we need to keep the hammer down. On all of them. No mercy, bc we will see none.
Go 🐅!

I'm actually sore today because I held that thought for too long.

Ben Batson? Joey Batson’s son? He has a full time position on the staff after a single year working at Georgia Southern? Wow, oh man, what a shock. I can’t believe that. What are the odds that Dabo was out looking for the best candidate for a position and it happens to be a kid of a current staffer? SMH. West Virginia mining towns are less incestuous than our staff.

Legitimate question; why not Batson? Isn't that how we got Dabo? S&C is so data driven now that every big time program will be pretty dialed in.
Ben's a good Tiger and is smart enough to contribute in that area. Dabo already knows his character. Coming through Daniel's program tells me there's some grit there, too.
Not trying to argue; just don't see the point in manifesting a problem.

Because top to bottom, our staff is rife with nepotism.

…hires that were made on the basis of familiarity or throwing a friend a bone over an actual search for the best candidates. He has his own son and in-laws on the staff, as well as cases like Batson’s. The staff also seems to be a retirement plan for former players whose NFL careers didn’t totally pan out.
Look at Dabo’s coaching tree next to Saban’s. Very, very few coaches branching out from him and going on to further success, and there’s a reason for that. Instead of staff who are highly desired and recruited by other schools, we have a building full of people who know they’re on a gravy train they wouldn’t have been on otherwise, and aren’t going to say a word to Dabo to jeopardize that. It’s a yes-man culture led by a well-compensated man who is playing games with other people’s money, and is never going to hear an opinion that contrasts with his own.

You framed that very well; I see how that could be a problem. Do you think these outside hires like Riley and Luke challenge him on things?

I assume Luke might, because

A) he has options and B) has earned the right to do so in his career.
It’s like to think Riley would but at the same time he’s still a relatively young guy in his profession. Dabo still has such an overarching say in our play calling that I can’t believe that Riley has been given a reasonable amount of autonomy. I think he’d probably just quickly take the next good coaching offer he got rather than rocking the boat.
