What’s the process to remove this guy as commissioner?

Seriously, it’s fine if you have these thoughts swirling in your head and you debate them with yourself. But to open your mouth and allow other people to hear how idiotic your thinking is…this guy should not be paid to do what he’s doing.

The conference should begin meeting to remove this guy immediately. He's a liability and saying things like this publicly are an embarrassment to the league.

TU for D.Hood’s article. J.Phillips isn’t an idiot; he’s vindictive. He’s determined to diminish Clemson at every opportunity. Clemson’s unabashed and repeated public intentions to GTHO of the ACC is, in effect, a declaration of war.

J.Phillip’s proposal would nearly guarantee that the ACC only gets one team into the CFP. An extra ‘play-in’ game to determine which team deserves to be in 2nd place will be a ratings snoozer.

He’s just trying to make sure that another repeat of Clemson winning the ACC outright (via the current conference championship format used by the other conferences) never happens again.

Why would a conference intentionally sabotage its best teams with unnecessary losses right before the playoff teams are determined? This will just make it easier to only let in one ACC team.

Jim Phillips thinks 2 + 2 = 5. He also thinks the second and third place teams can play each other and the winner be the champion. Sadly, none of this is surprising.

Wait???.......whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa????

So the regular season champion is put on a shelf, 2 & 3 play for the championship and they go to the playoff?? I have to ASSume from this idiocy, that he figures the committee will just go ahead and put the no 1 in, and they'll automatically place this "champion". All the teeth gnashing from this year would only get worse. Talk about conflict.

The problem with "money making" games like a Play-in game in the conference and then the first round games of the Playoffs is it would be possible for an ACC team making the National Championship game to play 18 games if my math is right. Keeping players healthy for 12 games is hard but when you add 6 more games, it would be impossible and give another conference champion a big advantage by having to potentially play only 16 games.

Yes, your math is wrong. This wouldn't add any additional games. It would just make the last (i.e. 12th) regular season game the playing game.

I'd like to float Commissioner Phillips down the Savannah River and into the ocean never to be heard from again. The present scheme of #1 playing #2 worked just fine. Why does he want to screw it up? His idea would require each team to redo it's entire schedule because now most, or all, are playing a rival on the last Sat. in Nov. And he wants to play an ACC Championship on that Sat????????? If that's the best he can offer, he is incapable of being involved the ACC Championship decisions!!!!!!!!!

Re: TNET: ACC Commissioner floats the idea of making changes to ACC Championship

The easiest solution for who can and will play in the ACC Championship is to make an incredible offer to Notre Dame to join the league in football. More on that! Then establish two divisions, ACC EAST/ACC WEST.

ACC EAST:
BC
CLEMSON
SYRACUSE
VT
UVA
PITT
DUKE
UNC
MIAMI

ACC WEST:
NOTRE DAME
FLORIDA STATE
LOUISVILLE
GT
SMU
CALIFORNIA
STANFORD
NORTH CAROLINA STATE
WAKE FOREST

TOP 2 teams of both 9 team divisions will play for the ACC. Now, in order to get Notre Dame in, the ACC must guarantee that Notre Dame retains the TV revenue that they receive from their own tv deal with NBC, that they will retain the flexibility of scheduling Michigan, USC, NAVY, ARMY, Penn State as a non-conference opponent. Lot of people aren’t going to like this idea, but this is the only way you get Notre Dame, and a 2 Division with 9 Teams in both, and a fair honest ACC Championship game. It’s called suck it up, bite the bullet and let’s show the NCAA that in order to make this CFP better, you got to have Two Division (9 teams each), in order to put the best teams in the CFP. If anyone has a better idea, I say make the pitch, rather than laughing or ridiculing an idea that at least someone is willing to pitch in order to fix a problem.

If there were not for so many dumb things being said, I would say this takes the cake! So now SMU is running the league after one year when they went undefeated while not playing either of the top 2 teams, MADE the playoffs AND got taken to the woodshed when they did. What is it that you now want? The easiest schedule in the league and an automatic championship without playing for it and a birth - sure why not!
Nobody wants to earn anything anymore why should you?
