The ones who suffer are our student athletes who have to travel cross country for all these sports having to miss class after class for multiple days. Adding CAL and STANFORD was the dumbest decision ever . The money this will cost is gonna blow your mind . Might as well extend the runway at Pickens airstrip and buy ourselves a couple more jets and pilots .

Clemson is forgetting the fan base who stood by them over the lesser years. Think of traveling to left coast, time, money the logistics. Now, the games are being televised by exclusive packages . I was totally discouraged not being able to follow our baseball team some if us refuse tp pay through the nose to companies that are illegitimate unethical discrimatory

Equivalent of coaches speak, how about they ruined a beautiful league by not forcing the conference to put football first. All this could have been avoided if they would have pushed the entire acc to better their football products.

Set a minimum threshold for investment of the ACC media funds back into football as it is the sport driving the boat for all. If you don't, leave the league and go elsewhere instead of dragging your peers down. Unfortunately though it is now far too late for that approach as things are currently structured.

That would not work.
The problem is that schools like Wake Forest and Duke are small schools with small fanbases, which simply don't generate enough revenue to compete with the big schools.

Clemson is fairly small as compared to the traditionally big football power houses. The ACC seems to like the smaller schools also. As a general statement, without FSU the ACC's schools are all on the smaller side. Plus they just let in SMU that has 12,500 students, Stanford with 16,900 and Cal being the newest and biggest school over FSU with 45,000 students. Interms of student bodies we perform much higher than our weight class...kinda like Notre Dame does. The Big Ten goes at least 6 schools deep that are over 40,000 student enrollment. In the SEC we rank somehwere in the bottom half or even lower for student body size. The reason Texas A&M can buy such NIL classes is that they sport a 70,000 student base and a vast alumni to donate to the cause.
How this impacts us...it comes down to money. In the grand scheme of things Clemson is a small or medium small school. We will not get the viewership even if we win unless we are playing one of the big boys (enrollment wise). We won't sell the merchandice of the one of those schools. We don't have the deep pocketed alumni that all those schools do. This is where our coach, I think, is going the right direction for Clemson. If we cannot win with money we have to win with quality of experience.
My fear with leaving the ACC is that we'll be all excited about it and then rapidly turn into an also ran just due to size of our student body and the hammer we will likely get in terms of revenue for the first several seasons.

My argument is not null and invalid. That's a stupid statement honestly.
The other poster is making an assumption that they aren't spending enough revenue, be it from the conference or the total school revenue, on football. He doesn't know the actual breakdown.
Plus, the conference revenue isn't that big of a percentage of total revenue for the schools. For example, Clemson has total revenue of about $158 million, and the ACC payout is around $35-40 million.

I am not privy to total funds, but acc did not feed the conference. You have to nourish the teans, schools, rather than using funds on management

The ACC isn't going away. It will be transformed. It will be another AAC or big sky, basically a mid major.
The commissioner is, he and his predecessor, negligent on many levels. Instead of wasting millions of dollars fighting two schools who will leave, now or later, use the money to elevate all the schools. No, I don't know what that would entail, but get everyone involved in figuring it out. We've been in this league a long time and I don't want to see us leave, but, at this point, it's necessary.

well all the schools approved him so it is somewhat on Clemson and FSU. I was always amazed at the unfettered support Swoff had as commish. He was not good and was biased for UNC yet Clemson never did anything but meekly go along.

Baghdad Bob right at the end. He knew the situation. He kept telling the people everything was great for Iraq. But, he knew it was all a lie.
It reminds me of the news reporters a few years ago who were calling the riots "mostly peaceful demonstrations" while the camera showed massive fires just over their shoulder.
But, Jim is even alluding to the fact that the end of the ACC is near when he talks about a "reset" in college sports. He knows that reset will not include FSU and Clemson in the ACC. He knows that reset will move the ACC down to no better than a "tier 2" football conference.
I suspect he knows the best he can do is keep the ACC relevant in basketball, baseball and the Olympic sports. Being relevant in football when compared to the SEC, BIG and even the Big 12 just ain't gonna happen. And, he knows it.

The sad thing is it does not matter if you love the ACC or hate them like I do. If we are to continue being a factor in football we have no choice. The ACC brass has delegated the conference to secondary status in the pecking order. It will be suicide to stay in the ACC with the loss of revenue compared to the BIG and the SEC. We must leave.

Your mouth as well...the ACC was just fine till the halfasssemiholes took a powder and skipped the Orange Bowl...the dance committee knew they were substandard and left them out...then they acted exactly as suspected...the hired players all bailed and the conference took a hit because of FSU...let's all do what they do...end of story...as usual FSU blames their failure on someone...let's sue the ACC...they made As**es out of our football program...the optometrists at the SEC don't even need glasses for this one!

a great league for 'this part of the country' then minutes later bragging on our 'national' stance with the addition of two trash west coast football programs and a program in SMU that isn't even qualifying for CFP bonus dollars for the new P4. Clearly 'this part of the country' doesn't mean squat today and the ACC under his leadership is flailing.
Saying there's a 'reset' coming also in college athletics sounds like his way of copping out and simply standing by and waiting on others to accomplish something and hoping it benefits today's ACC programs. This is weak. I hope we smash this goober in court.

Cal, Stanford and SMU? This isn’t the 1980s ACC has treated Clemson poorly since 1981…damaged the university in MANY sports. Whether this gets resolved behind the scenes or publicly, we’ve needed to move on for awhile!

Has anyone ever asked this guy exactly how he thinks ACC schools are going to be able to remain competitive with the schools in the B1G and SEC given the horrible television contract his predecessor negotiated? The ACC has been at a disadvantage financially for some time but it wasn’t an insurmountable disadvantage like it’s about to become. Any ACC member school that wants to be relevant on a national level in ANY sport is going to have to find a new home- especially in this era of NIL and the transfer portal. Enlighten us oh wise commissioner- what are we to do?

The only way the ACC survives
Jun 22, 2024, 5:59 PM
|
|
is to force ND to give us two more games annually (5 current, Stanford + 2 more) to become full conference football members. We then have to politely tell a few schools like Wake, BC, Syracuse and Pitt they they are going to have to take a 20%/30% cut in the TV dollars until their viewership numbers improve. If they don't like it they can leave and we will gladly let them rejoin later for $0 revenue share like SMU. Lastly, we have to get a few more travel partners for the west coast schools who will also join with a lower revenue share until they can show their value. I'm talking about maybe Arizona, ASU, Utah and maybe Colorado.

The real culprit in all of this is ESPN, though no one will acknowledge it. They are the one's throwing the huge sums at the B1G and SEC. It was their greed that upset the applecart. When the ACC schools signed the agreement, it looked good, but ESPN knew they were going to give far more money to B1G and SEC, so they crippled the ACC. I love the ACC and have no desire to join either of the other conferences, but by their targetted approach, ESPN transformed college football into NFL-lite and they should be condemned. They are destroying a beautiful game. FSU, Clemson, and the ACC should sue ESPN for misleading them when writing the Grant of Rights and ESPN should renegotiate in good faith.

This guy gets it. All ESPN had to do is guarantee that the ACC and BIG12 contracts will never be more than 15-20% lower than the Top conference. Having P5 or now P4 is much better for CFB than having a P2. And throw out that differential share of the playoff that’s just straight up bs

I'm sure Jim has a very nice golden parachute that would be more than enough for any of us to retire on should the ACC cease to exist. Maybe he should just let it go, take the money and go be a greeter at Walmart part time if he gets bored. lol.

I’ve been using Winport for some time now at https://winport.casinologinaustralia.com/, and the login process is always quick and hassle-free. The site is well-organized, making it easy to find my favorite games and get started right away. They offer a good variety of slots and table games, which keeps things interesting. The bonuses are generous, particularly for new players, which gave me a nice boost when I first signed up. One thing I appreciate is the range of payment options, which makes deposits and withdrawals straightforward. However, I’ve noticed that their customer support can be a bit slow to respond, which is frustrating when you need immediate assistance. Overall, Winport has been a reliable platform with a lot to offer.

I'm so tired of his narrative and his reactionary decision-making. I still can't believe he went and got Stanford, Cal, and SMU...and then goes on to say what a great fit they are...LOL...okay, Jim.

All of this is a Coot plot!...look how much good the great SEC money has helped the nuggets...they can't beat us so they cook up this plot to destroy Clemson from within...a little greed and we got em...join the mighty SEC...MO money and we will sequester your fannies in the upper corner of SC and you'll be just like us except we were here first...When we are in the SEC we will be second class citizens to a small box of nuggets...all the Clemson fans will be satisfied, put away, Dabos dream can be stashed and we get beaten every year by Bama, Jawja, Tennessee and Cooterville...now you will all be happy SEC, MO money and COOT equality! Sounds like a conspiracy theory...Coots win, Coots win!

"Beautiful" like 1982? Apparently, the commissioner has no clue about the history of the ACC. Clemson should have left in the 80s.

who went to Northwestern, started giving a charter member of the ACC a history lesson on the league and how it’s impacted the area. Thanks for the info, Jim. Let me guess, you say you are “from” NC and constantly tell people how things were done in Illinois, lol.
