Dabo: "Our staff is probably as good as it's ever been"

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked on his call-in show Monday about how he evaluates his coaching staff at this point.
"I love our staff. I really do," Swinney said. "We've got a bunch of guys who are incredibly committed. They're passionate about it. I think they're excellent teachers. A group that we're like-minded. We're aligned in the purpose of this program. We believe in Clemson, and we believe in the kids that we have here. But these guys have done a heck of a job..."
Said the O-line has played "pretty dang good" and there have been some "big strides made" at wide receiver. Swinney also lauded work at tight end and running back, calling CJ Spiller "a pro" and Richardson "a great teacher." Swinney went through the defensive coaches with praise for each one as well.
"We've got an excellent staff across the board. I know I'm biased," Swinney said. "It's something we evaluate and look at...You don't win like we've won if you have bad coaches and guys that don't develop...We're certainly not perfect or anything like that. We make mistakes like anyone else does. Our staff is probably as good as it's ever been."

Bull crap. I pay and support that team and want them to succeed. I have every right to complain when team season goals are not being met. Just because I choose to voice those opinions doesn’t make me any less of a fan. This is coaches speak and he really can’t say anything else but I’m tired of his sunshine pumping only to be a bold face lie. Kinda like this is the fastest team he’s ever coached. I don’t have to have football in to know that’s horse dookie.

The Staff that left had years of experience prior to coming to Clemson. The staff that we have now are new as coordinators and position coaches. However, they're coaches that learn quickly and have a high acumen for the game. Not to mention that each coach that we do have recruits fairly well. I'd say give it another year or two and nobody will be able to touch Clemson with what we have on our staff. Sure, they aren't championship caliber, but they've drastically improved, and I don't think the coordinators and position coaches are anywhere close to achieving their coaching ceiling. Let's sit back and trust Dabo on this one.

Why has Brad not accomplished anything remotely close to Dabo ? Why has Brad underachieved for 14 years?

He could’ve said that he really likes his staff, appreciates their football minds, and loves their dedication to the program.
But no, not Dabo. He had to say something ridiculous like this staff is as good as any he’s had.
Sometimes, I don’t know if he honestly believes some of the stuff he says or not. Regardless, it makes it difficult to take him seriously.

Dabo is the 2nd winningest coach of the playoff era, and just because we lost a few games with a subpar QB era and now a developing one, that doesn’t mean the football program has fallen into shambles. You wish Brad could finish 15th, in a down year.

Judge Keller, I hate to set precedent here and agree with you on something, but I have to go along with you on this one. To say he talks too much is like saying Rosie O'Donnell eats too much. Sometimes he needs to just shut up. I love the man dearly but he is a motormouth!

Why does he need to shut up?? Is he not allowed to talk freely as he wishes?? It’s simple if you don’t like what the man says don’t listen, if his talking is messing up the university start a protest to remove him. Dabo has always and will always talked that hasn’t changed. The only thing that has is we haven’t been in the playoffs, so truth is nobody ever liked Dabo they just liked the success.

J.K., that was before he came up with the idea of pre-planned losses to separate the wheat from the chaff, or some Biblical reference like that. His quote was: "honestly maybe we need to lose a few games and lighten up the bandwagon." Sounds to me like he has a plan in place!

Sounds like that is the case, my friend. By that time, all the Band Wagoners will have been tossed from the cart and returned to their swamp trailers in Georgia and Alabama and Dabo will have all the kinks worked out of this new staff. Sounds like a protracted plan, but a plan nevertheless. I just hope none of the Band Wagoners who get slung off the wagon by these pre-planned losses gets hurt or maimed beyond repair.

My goodness Dabo… it just never stops with him.
I hate when he tries to feed us things that we know aren’t true.
If anything… this is one of the most inexperienced and yes man staffs we’ve had under him.
That quote in the first paragraph where he says “we’re all like minded the same way”… that’s exactly the problem coach. You got o many “yes men” on the staff that refuse to challenge you in any way and Dabo sees this as a good thing.
Just smh

Appreciate the edification.
You're right, he does, and they do. Saying they're best is one thing, proving it is another.

Positive coach speak, but CDS believes it

The coaches lack experience, but they are getting plenty of experience learning on the job.
Let us never forget, BV is vital to any Clemson Championships. The best move CDS has made and it is not even close.
Simply put, Dabo loves his guys. Win/lose/draw, he is staying with this theme.

"I like my guys".
"I wouldn't trade them for anything"
"We can all get better"
Etc, etc, etc....
Saying they're his best staff "ever" was kinda silly.

Does anyone actually think it would be a remotely good idea for a HC to throw any of his coaches under the bus mid-season? Unless he expected to fire them yesterday he is going to say good things and based on employment law he still can't really say anything negative about them without getting sued.
What did he say about Streeter after he let him go? notice...zero negatives even when talking about why he was let go. It is because legally he cannot say anything publicly negative about an employee. It's not "coach speak" its employer about employee speak. I say the same sort of thing when I have been asked for references from someone we fired. You legally cannot say anything negative.
“I am incredibly appreciative of Brandon for all he accomplished at Clemson in his 15 years as a player, graduate assistant, position coach and offensive coordinator. I am thankful for Brandon and love him and his family. He has always represented Clemson University with great pride, and I know he will continue to do great things.
“As the leader of this program, I am accountable for our staff and accountable for our results, and though we took a step forward offensively in 2022, after evaluating our offense in-depth, I felt it was in the best interest of our program to seek new leadership at that position. These decisions are never easy, but it is my job to evaluate and assess every part of our program every year, and this was just the right time to make a change.

throwing coaches under the bus, and saying that they are as good as he's ever had.
I don't think anyone here wants Dabo to publicly criticize our coaches, but many of us are tired of the unnecessarily ridiculous statements that seem to come out of his mouth on a regular basis these days.
