Hard Commits...

Re: Hard Commits...

Hate to lose him, he loves our coaches and our culture. Understand he wants to visit other places, but hopefully after the first one or two he will realize Clemson is the place to be. In the meantime, I know Dabo & our coaches will be working hard to get the right guy whether Korey or someone else.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All of this was known in January when he committed.

Apr 21, 2020, 2:03 PM

No surprises, just people getting in his head.

Good luck to him.

Re: All of this was known in January when he committed.

Apr 21, 2020, 3:45 PM

I agree. He's entitled to visit. Then he can commit. Our staff went through this with the LB last year and ultimately he didnt sign. The way we are recruiting there is no sense going through this again. It is very basic- if he still wants to take visits, and he is certainly entitled to them, then he decommits and does that. Ultimately he will make a decision where he is comfortable. Hopefully it Clemson but he doesnt need to rush it and not be sure.

Re: All of this was known in January when he committed.

Apr 21, 2020, 3:56 PM

But official visit isn't an entitlement that he has earned, it's a limit of how many official visits he can take if that is what he chooses to do, and he hasn't earned them, it's what the NCAA allows them. And that number should be cut back to 3 bc these kids are using them as an entitlement, as a gifted free trip to another state with the look of a recruiting visit with the college paying their way. They can get their lodging, gas expense, and meals paid for and only spending a few hours with the school while they also take in all the sites in the cities where those schools are!!!!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I got a hunch he'll be back as long as the media doesn't

Apr 22, 2020, 8:11 AM [ in reply to Re: Hard Commits... ]

turn him. If they start a rumor mill of bad blood then he might go elsewhere but other than that I think our chances are good with him at the end. I also believe our coaches will be in constant communication and keep the relationship ship shape. I think its just simply he likes college football and wants to go to some big games (if they happen) this year. I would.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And then there was Robert Nkemdiche...

Apr 21, 2020, 3:48 PM [ in reply to Hard Commits... ]

From Wikipedia,

"Robert Nkemdiche committed on June 14, 2012. Then decommitted in November 2012. Then he committed to Ole Miss on National Signing Day to play with his brother.

After an incident involving marijuana (see below) in December 2015, Nkemdiche was suspended for the 2016 Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma State.[22] After the season, Nkemdiche decided to forego his senior year and enter the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Arizona Cardinals selected Nkemdiche in the first round (29th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.[25]
On May 29, 2016, the Arizona Cardinals signed Nkemdiche to a four-year, $8.60 million contract that includes $8.15 million guaranteed and a signing bonus $4.45 million."

IF Robert Nkemdiche had stayed committed to Clemson,

In 2015, when he would have been a sophomore, Clemson lost to Alabama in a close game in the National Championship. In 2016, when he would have been a junior, Clemson beat Alabama in Tampa, FL to win it's second national championship.

If Robert Nkemdiche had declared for the NFL after winning the National Championship in 2016 while at Clemson...I think there would be some much larger numbers up there behind the dollar signs.

Korey Foreman - Something to think about young man. Don't be a Nkemdiche.

Commit again when you’re ready, until then go in other visits like the coaches told you originally.

Another deal with this is he will be a 2021 commit and that’s just 2 years from the California law going into affect where he can make money on his name. So I am sure some California School already is waving the green in front of his family because by the time the school is investigated it will be a law!

The problem that he said he has, it's the very same problem that was clearly put to him the day that he committed to begin with. It's strange that it wasn't a problem then, but it is now. That excuse reeks with the smell of coaches lying to him, or with promises of lots of cash during the time when there wasn't supposed to be any coaches contact with recruits in the first place!!!

Apr 21, 2020, 2:08 PM

I love how these stories always highlight what Clemson is. We’re not playing games and we’re not trying to fool anyone. If you’re top of the board and you accept our offer, we’re thrilled. But the coaches will tell you clearly that if you want to commit, then you’re committed. And if you’re not committed, we have to find someone who is. And there’s no spinning it...if you want to take your other visits, that’s great. But you’re not committed to Clemson then. Maybe he’ll decide he’s made a mistake and recommit....maybe Southern Cal will be a better fit for him. Either way, I’m glad Clemson, and Dabo, is “What you see is what you get.”

Absolutely!!! He would be a long way from home at Clemson and understandable if he chooses somewhere close to home. I am all in Clemson, and I would love to see the kid play at Clemson, and there is perks for him playing so far from home, and that he can win a NC at Clemson probably easier than any where else that he goes!!!

He’s a good kid just young and wants to do things but the virus has him all hemmed up. I seriously doubt he has much time to take officials because of the state he is in and timing of his high school season and the start of football this season.

He feels like the rest of us, let’s get back to living life normally.

I hope he doesn’t miss out because we are at the top of college football and our program invests more into its players from a love standpoint than any other. Just look at Dabo’s former players with joy, peace, giving back to others with more coming back at them because they are Clemson Men on a mission to be champions in life. You can’t put a price on that!

Short term gain is never worth life long loss. Good luck and God bless you brother.

I'm confused. How did he earn the right to take visits? Because he was physically gifted with genes, he some how 'earned' something? Yeah, I am not following that line of thinking at all.
I'm 6-6, 250 or so and my older brother is 6-0, 180. How did I earn the right to be bigger and stronger than him? Stupid thinking.

He earned other visits, according to other coaches that want him to come to their schools. They are the ones telling him that, and he has others around him, telling him he deserves more. This is old fashioned pay for play recruiting. Let it go, Dabo and the staff have moved on. Good luck to the kid, because the first guy that commits at his position, he Will bo longer have an offer. Re: TNET: 5-star defensive end decommits from Clemson, states reason for his decision

Apr 21, 2020, 11:28 PM

Dabo is a little finicky when it comes to decommitting when he laid the rules down of what he expects of these young men once they commit. I'm going on the safe side and say, as soon as the coaches/staff finds a suitable DE to file that slot, they will fill it. If not with a DE, it will be with another position that one more elite player can't hurt!!!

Don't commit to something if you have any doubt, if there is a sliver of apprehension then wait. Every athlete that wants to commit to CLEMSON knows the policy. Hypothetically, with the whole world up in the air right now, he may be making a huge mistake.

People already talking about no students on campuses until 2021. If that happens, there’s no football in the fall and active recruiting will not be happening. He may not have a senior season and no open schools to take visits to. We could have his spot filled quickly...then he’s SOL.

He's young and with the uncertainty in the world right now. A person has a lot of time to think why they are sheltering in place. (Cabin Fever) He is the top player in the country and what I read from it is that by being a top player he was cheating himself from experiencing visits to colleges around America. I believe he pulled the trigger to soon with the Clemson commitment and he realized it. It sounds like he and Dabo talked it over and we will see from there. I believe we still have a good shot with him. I hope he finds what he's looking for and I hope it's "The Clemson Tigers".

Anyone have a list/breakdown of the DEnds will go after instead?

Nkimdeche (sp?) - #1 recruit decomitted from Clemson and went on to have a useless career with Ole Miss.
Jerrion Ealy (Ole Miss RB) was big on Clemson - went to Ole Miss instead....has done squat.
Rashun Gary - #1 recuit had to pick between CU and Michigan. Went with Harbaugh and did absolutely zilch in college.

....now Foreman wants to go to a school who's HC is terrible, the 5-star QB just entered the transfer portal, they pulled the #55 recruiting class last year and the state of CA as a whole has basically given up on CFB.

To which I reply: Best of Luck and enjoy watching CU in the playoffs.

I agree with y'all, more than likely his spot will be gone. Ironic though that he would give us up over visits that have no better than a 50:50 of even happening in the first place. "Well I gave up Clemson so I could have a Skype call with Saban!" Now there's a deal you can't refuse!

get from four visits other than us, over making an actual firm commitment to Clemson that will positively affect his life FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE, we may be better off dodging that bullet. Because, when you think about it, that is what he is actually saying. You cannot tell me that Dabo did not have this conversation about visits with him when he told Dabo he wanted to commit. He is just trying to have his cake and eat it too. Dabo has this policy in place for a reason. We don't have nearly the drama and hand wringing on signing day that most schools have, and that is a GREAT thing. I wish Foreman nothing but success, but I would be very surprised if there is a spot for him later on.

Hopefully it will turn out like our situation at running back a few years back, when we had to "settle" for ETN at the last minute. Dabo already has another plan, I would put monies on it. :)

I am assuming he's gone. Move on. I know the coaching staff will. I would rather have someone who's "all in" than some one a service thinks is #1. I will be very surprised if there is a scholarship available if he ever makes a decision to come to Clemson. And I think it will be his loss...but I do not know his situation other than what I read.

My observations are as follows:

1. With every offer extended comes the "The All In Poker Chip"
2. We must assume he was given a chip
3. When a player commits said player is asked to throw in his chip showing he is all in
4. We know he had a good explanation of what commiting meant and what was expected of him
5. We know Dabo explained all of the above again and also asked him if he was sure he wanted to do this
6. We must assume he (Foreman) said yes to Dabo
7. Who broke his word

Foremas is a darned good player, but is he a darned good fit?

I'm sorry this happened, but I admire Dabo's stance on the subject. Maybe you'll get him back.

Hopefully, we'll still get to play each other in November. :)
